  1. Notts need five wickets for 'valuable and defining victory'published at 13:33 BST 21 June

    Essex 184 & 81-5 v Notts 457

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Coming back out in the morning at 13-2 Essex had ambitions of making the County Champions bat again, but would be required to bat much better second time around.

Nightwatchman, Charlie Bennett, was first to go being caught at Backward Point for five. Fergus O'Neill claiming his third wicket.

Gutsy, Dean Elgar was needed by Essex but perished for a patient 42, lbw to Ollie Stone who bowled fast, aggressive and with heart.

Essex then lost skipper, Tom Westley, just before lunch for 19 caught at slip off Liam Patterson-White who will add to his tally of scalps this afternoon.

At lunch, Essex are 81-5 still 192 runs behind making Nottinghamshire bat again - the visitors need five more Essex wickets to notch up a valuable and defining victory at Chelmsford.

  2. 'Somerset appear at Suthar’s mercy'published at 13:27 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 104-4 v Warks 330 - Somerset trail by 18 runs

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Manav Suthar’s new team-mates, soon to become his former team-mates, have spoken very warmly of his contribution on and off the field over the last nine days since he joined them for the start in Scarborough.

The young left-arm spinner will be a new name to most, his career having leapt dramatically forward this month.

He started his first Test match for India in Chandigarh only 15 days ago, since when he won the man of the match award, signed for Warwickshire, flew to England, experienced the unique characteristics of Yorkshire seaside cricket, battled into the last over to save that game, and is now the key figure on the third day here.

It has been, even for an open-minded young man, a lot.

His urgency and enthusiasm is obvious and was sharpened still further this morning as he settled into a long bowl from the River End and claimed all three wickets.

Jordan Hermann looked uncomfortable defending him, but his attempt to slog-sweep his way out of trouble fell to a fine catch in the deep by Nathan Gilchrist.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore missed an off-drive and had lifted his toe just far enough off the ground to convince umpire David Millns to give him out stumped. Josh Shaw’s diligent nightwatchman’s shift, over two hours in all, ended with an edge to slip. Still 18 behind, Somerset appear at Suthar’s mercy.

  3. Goldsworthy & Rew keep Somerset hopes alivepublished at 13:20 BST 21 June

Somerset have made a faltering start to their mission of batting through the day, losing three wickets to the left arm spin of Manav Suthar, who is Warwickshire's main threat on a pitch offering slow turn.

Jordan Hermann was well caught in the deep, Tom Kohler-Cadmore smartly stumped and Josh Shaw's long vigil as nightwatchman ended when he was taken at slip, all three of the wickets to Suthar.

Lewis Goldsworthy and Thomas Rew got through to lunch without further damage, keeping Somerset's hopes of saving this game very much alive.

  4. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:19 BST 21 June

    Sussex 159 & 64-1 v Hampshire 411

Sussex are 64-1 in this innings, and the Daniel Hughes and Tom Alsop partnership has come them up in this match after Haines' lbw saw him depart for 0.

Eddie Jack finished off Hampshire's second innings after he was caught by Sean Hunt following a great bowl from Jack Carson which chipped off Jack's bat sending the ball backwards.

The exit of Jack left Sussex needing 253 to win they have now reduced that down to 189 runs required.

This match is set to be come down to an exciting conclusion in Hove.

    Derbyshire 364 & 25-1 v Lancs 161 & 226

Derbyshire pick up their third win of the season to leapfrog their beaten opponents Lancashire up to fifth in Division Two.

A comprehensive win for Derbyshire who have dominated with bat and ball to secure a deserved victory.

  6. Postpublished at 13:14 BST 21 June

    Derbyshire 16-1 v Lancs - chasing 24

Such are the quirks of County Championship cricket there does seem to be some deliberation about taking lunch now.

With Derbyshire eight runs away from the win.

I think we are going to stay out there but watch this space.

  7. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:12 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 104-4 v Warks 330

Slight heart in mouth moment as edges the penultimate ball of the session from Manav Suthar just wide of first slip and nips through for a single.

Somerset’s hopes of turning this game around lay in their spinners wreaking havoc on a wearing fourth-innings pitch.

But the slow arm of Warwickshire’s Suthar may have drawn their sting after taking three wickets on the third morning, removing Jordan Hermann, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and nightwatch Josh Shaw.

At lunch, Somerset still trail Warwickshire’s first innings total by 18 runs with six second-innings wickets in hand - they may not make enough runs for their spinners to play with.

But there remains hope while Goldsworthy (14*) and Thomas Rew (12*) remain at the crease.

    Derbyshire 12-1 - chasing 24

    Derbyshire are halfway there.

They did lose Harry Came, bowled third ball by George Balderson for 0, but Luis Reece and Matthew Montgomery are now looking to close out the win.

  9. Lunch at Sophia Gardenspublished at 13:10 BST 21 June

    Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 177-4

Surrey are 177-4 at Lunch on the Third Day and now only trail by 76 runs, they have continued to cut down the first innings lead from Glamorgan.

Rory Burns has been the man to lead the team's batting game, hitting his half-century, and continuing up to 82 from 181 balls and all season best from the English cricketer.

Despite Rahul Chahar's great morning of batting it was no match for the bowl of Ben Kellaway who got himself two wickets in this morning session.

  10. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:10 BST 21 June

    Durham 405 v Northants 450 & 10-0

Ricardo Vasconcelos (2) and Gus Miller (7) walk off for a spot of lunch having just reached double figures in Northants' second dig.

This is a very finely-poised contest in terms of the numbers but you feel it needs a shot of adrenaline in order to halt meandering towards a draw.

Who can provide that? Ben Raine and Matthew Potts bowled well in the first innings but need to put in a proper shift in the middle session if Durham are to haul it back their way.

For Northants Vasconcelos and Luke Procter's injury replacement Gus Miller will have other ideas against a Durham side now missing Ben Stokes.

    Somerset 208 & 102-4 v Warks 330

We'll take a slightly later lunch at Taunton to make up for time lost to rain and bad light yesterday,

Beau Webster decides on a change of bowling style as he tries an over of off breaks.

The Australia all-rounder overpitches with his first ball and Thomas Rew thaks him by driving through the covers for four.

It brings up three figures for Somerset in the 45th over.

  13. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:05 BST 21 June

    Essex 184 & 81-5 v Notts 457

No doubting who will be enjoying lunch more with Notts in total control of a contest that could well be over today.

Essex trail by 192 runs with five second innings wickets in hand but with the pitch increasingly rewarding the spin of Liam Patterson-White they are faced with climbing a mountain on a hot day.

LPW bagged the seemingly crucial wicket of the Essex skipper Tom Westley in the third over before the break and more beckon in the afternoon session.

  14. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:03 BST 21 June

    Leics 453 v Yorks 185 & 121-6

Leicestershire have continued to utterly dominate this match as they have done since the first morning.

Josh Davey picked up his third wicket of the innings to remove Sam Whiteman early on before Alex Green dismissed Matt Revis and then snared the prize wicket of Jonny Bairstow for a three-ball duck.

The game was all but up when set batter James Wharton was bowled by Ajaz Patel.

The visitors need another 147 runs to avoid an innings defeat as the Foxes scent a first Division One victory in 23 years.

Spin at both ends as Rehan Ahmed and Ajaz Patel bog down the Yorkshire batters before lunch.

Ajaz Patel has conceded just a single run from his six overs.

Dom Bess pokes at a full ball slightly outside off stump from Ahmed and a thick outside edge evades the clutches of Rishi Patel.

  18. DERBYSHIRE NEED 24 RUNS TO WINpublished at 12:49 BST 21 June

  19. Burns at his bestpublished at 12:49 BST 21 June

    Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 177-4

Rory Burns has now hit his highest score of the Championship season as he hits 81 from 168 balls.

The next shot is more convincing as he drives down the ground for four more.

Another wide delivery is cut for a third successive boundary as Bess moves quickly to 15.
