That is huge. That really is a massive wicket.

Travis Head tried to play it too square and it was a good catch from Gus Atkinson.

Those are not easy and it went high into the blue sky.

    England needed that.

  6. wicket

    Head c Atkinson b Carse 33 (Aus 77-1)

    The breakthrough!

Travis Head with a huge leading edge as he attempts to whip Brydon Carse into the legs side but instead sends it skywards.

The ball hangs in the air for an absolute age but Gus Atkinson steadies himself under it at mid-on and takes the catch high above his head.

Jamie Smith, a very relieved man.

  7. Aus 77-0published at 13 overs

11 runs off Ben Stokes' over and Australia's run-rate is at 5.92 currently.

Travis Head with a real elegant flourish as he nonchalantly whips Ben Stokes through mid-wicket for four.

  10. Aus 70-0published at 12.1 overs

Ben Stokes goes full with the first ball of his second over, but Travis Head drills it low for four straight down the ground.

    Australia are absolutely motoring now.

Who is going to be the Mitchell Starc for England?

If you take Starc out of Australia's attack yesterday it was average.

England need that bit of spark from their skipper, Ben Stokes. What you have to do with that pink ball is hang in there.

That's brilliantly played. Jake Weatherald has just leant back and let it run off the face of the bat.

Brydon Carse, who will need to be one of England's workhorses with the ball at the Gabba, is hit for six by Jake Weatherald.

Extremely well played by the Aussie opener as he watches the ball all the way on to the face of the bat before lifting it off the face over England's cordon.

Looking at the Aussie bowlers late in the day yesterday, they look knackered.

It is very warm. I think we will be seeing short, sharp spells from England today.

England are not getting it right - I don't think there is a huge amount of margin - it is a great pitch today.

A sloppy start from Ben Stokes as he begins with a full toss which Travis Head clips for three runs.

Later in the over Jake Weatherald, who is going at around about a run a ball, guides Stokes through the third region for four.

England look a bit ragged at the moment.

Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson hardly found any swing with the new pink ball in this early spell so far. Mitchell Starc and Michael Neser found significantly more movement in the air with the new ball in comparison yesterday.

Average swing in the first six overs this Test:

    • Mitchell Starc - 1.39°
    • Michael Neser - 0.96°
    • Jofra Archer - 0.41°
    • Gus Atkinson - 0.39°

Travis Head throws his hands at the ball. It reminds me so much of AB [Allan Border] in the 80s.

The skipper, Ben Stokes is coming on, he is replacing Jofra Archer.

  20. 6 runs

    Aus 50-0published at 10 overs

Travis Head decides lady luck is on his side today.

Twice he throws the bat at deliveries from Brydon Carse and twice he finds the boundary.

He creams the first over point for four, then upper cuts the England seamer over third for six.
