  1. Drop looking costlypublished at 13:51 BST 1 May

    Middlesex 91-1 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It took nearly 100 deliveries but Sam Robson has eventually reached 50 for Middlesex.

He was dropped by keeper Ollie Robinson this morning, when on eight. That was off the bowling of Kemar Roach.

The first delivery from Roach after the lunch break took Robson to 50, as he hit him for four. He's also put on a 50 partnership with Max Holden.

The half-century came in a patient 98 balls, but only included four boundaries.

To be fair to Crawley, he's heading in the right direction. He's slowly getting better. There's still time for him to save his Test place. With the possible exception of Gay, no one is staking a claim to replace him.

The surface at The Oval is green. But Sussex hugely at fault also. Five of the dismissals hugely avoidable. But Jordan Clark has been exceptional.

  5. 'Honours even'published at 13:34 BST 1 May

Somerset v Yorkshire 115-3 - lunch, day one

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset have bowled well - Lewis Gregory especially so - to pick up three Yorkshire wickets after winning an important toss and electing to field.

It should really have been four wickets, as Jonny Bairstow was badly missed in the slips in the last over before lunch, as he looked to continue what seemed like an all-out assault on the South African seamer Migael Pretorius.

At the other end, Joe Root has looked calm and very much in control, driving anything over-pitched handsomely either straight or through the covers. Honours even.

  6. 'A lot to admire about Tribe'published at 13:32 BST 1 May

Hants v Glamorgan 89-1 - lunch, day one

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Glamorgan will be the happier of the two sides at the break after being asked to bat first on a Utilita Bowl surface that has a little more grass covering than the two previous matches.

Asa Tribe (45) who has attracted a lot of attention (and quite rightly) was only wicket to fall carving to backward point after an hour and 45 minutes play.

There’s a lot to admire about the 22-year-old. He has composure and a presence at the crease. Bowl too straight to him and he picks you off on the leg side. However, bowl three of four inches outside off stump consistently and there appears one or two issues.

It's this part to his game that he will need to address if he’s to reach the next level which many are predicting.

Crawley’s CC season typical of him as a batter. Looks quite good, plays a few nice drives (but which batter can’t?), and gets out. Yet to pass 50. He shouldn’t be opening for England in four weeks time, IMHO

  9. 'An absorbing morning's cricket'published at 13:09 BST 1 May

Somerset v Yorkshire 115-3 - lunch, day one

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think both sides will take some satisfaction from this morning's cricket.

Somerset have bowled well - certainly in the first three quarters of the session. Some good accurate, persistent bowling with a little bit of swing and seam movement on a well-grassed pitch and it brought them three wickets.

Then Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow came together, that was when the score was 64-3 and they've taken it onto to 115-3. It should really be 115-4 because Bairstow was put down in that last over before lunch by Craig Overton at second slip off Migael Pretorius.

It's been an absorbing morning's cricket in front of a good crowd. The skies are lightening and we in for a very good afternoon's cricket.

  10. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:09 BST 1 May

    Leics v Notts 120-1

Just the one moment of joy for Leics in that first session with Haseeb Hameed falling to a great catch behind the stumps by Ben Cox off the bowling of Ben Green.

Other than that it has been all Notts after they were put in by the hosts, Ben Slater progressing jauntily to 61 at the break and Ben Duckett reaching 12 not out.

Not a great deal in the pitch for the bowlers, or at least, in the hands of the Leics bowlers. Green and Ian Holland have fared best but chances have been few and far between.

  11. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:08 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 105-7

Back-to-back fours for Jack Carson take Sussex over 100 runs and us into the lunch break.

The morning session belongs to Surrey and Jordan Clark in particular after his 5-16 from seven overs.

Sussex were 0-1 in the second over before recovering nicely with a 50 partnership between Daniel Hughes (22) and Tom Clark (44) to reach 63-1 but then they were skittled, losing six wickets for just 29 runs.

A very green-looking pitch has certainly helped the hosts so far.

  12. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:05 BST 1 May

    Hants v Glam 89-1

The players walk from the middle as the first session comes to an end with Zain-ul-Hassan unbeaten on 34 and Kiran Carlson four not out.

Glamorgan will be the happier of the two after being put in.

Just one wicket down even though it should have been two with ul-Hassan caught in the slips off a no ball from Scott Currie.

Asa Tribe batted well enough (particularly strong off his legs) but was chipped out by Kyle Abbott, Fletcha Middleton taking the catch at gully.

  13. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:04 BST 1 May

    Somerset v Yorkshire 115-3

England duo Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow take Yorkshire through to lunch having just reached their 50 partnership.

They lost Adam Lyth early on for eight, James Wharton without scoring and Fin Bean for 35 in the morning session.

  14. 50 runs

partnership between Root and Bairstowpublished at 13:03 BST 1 May

    Somerset v Yorkshire 114-3

A good recovery effort from this famous duo who have taken Yorkshire from 64-3 to 114-3.

  15. 100 up for Yorkshirepublished at 12:57 BST 1 May

    Somerset v Yorkshire 110-3

Joe Root (27*) and Jonny Bairstow (22*) have almost made it to a 50 partnership and have pushed their side over 100 runs.

Not long to go until lunch.

  16. 'Clark has been absolutely relentless'published at 12:55 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 94-7

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Jack Leaning looked for a big booming drive and it took a thick edge and it was took by Jamie Smith away to his right-hand side.

That was a shot in these circumstances that Jack Leaning will be thinking that he probably should have left that one, but he went after it and a big edge.

A fifer for Clark in a blink of an eye. It's been exceptional bowling, he's been absolutely relentless.

  17. Postpublished at 12:52 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 94-7

Plenty of debate about the green pitch at The Oval.

Is it too helpful to the bowlers?

The Sussex scorecard might suggest it is.

WICKETpublished at 12:49 BST 1 May

    Leaning c Smith b Clark 3 (Surrey v Sussex 92-7)

    Five wickets for Jordan Clark!

The Surrey man has five wickets for only 14 runs in six overs in a quite devastating spell that has obliterated the Sussex scorecard.

Jack Leaning attempts a drive but it takes a thick edge and Jamie Smith pouches it behind the stumps.

Sussex are seven down and haven't made it to 100.

  19. Postpublished at 12:48 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 87-6

It's easy to forget that not that long ago Sussex had a 50 partnership and had reached 60 runs with only one wicket down.

Then Jordan Clark arrived to change things somewhat.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:48 BST 1 May

    Tribe c Middleton b Abbott 45 (Hants v Glam 79-1)

And just eight balls after Ul-Hassan is reprieved by a no ball, Hants do get a breakthrough with Asa Tribe edging Kyle Abbott to Fletcha Middleton at gully.

Tribe is frustrated with himself for reaching at a drive outside off stump and he has missed out a touch here given the ball is not doing a whole lot.
