Under no other circumstances would I even pretend to believe. This organisation has me living every ball, criticise all you want, but you can’t fault the belief they culture.

Nicely played by Joe Root, getting on top of the bounce and guiding the ball between slip and gully for four.

A Zak Crawley pull shot for one earlier in the over brought up the fifty partnership for the third wicket.

Still a long, long way to go for England.

Cameron Green is coming into the attack, and he got a wicket in his first over in the previous innings. England will be hoping that doesn't happen again.

With 20 minutes until tea, Cameron Green is coming on to replace Scott Boland, who went for just six in his five-over spell.

Big appeal for lbw as Nathan Lyon hits Zak Crawley on the front pad but the umpire is unmoved.

After a quick discussion, Australia don't take the review. Ball-tracking shows the impact was umpire's call and it was turning well down leg.

Drilled through the covers! Tossed up by Lyon but too full, outside off and driven firmly for four by Crawley.

The opener and Joe Root exchange singles before the over is out.

On Alex Carey's wicketkeeping to Scott Boland.

Boland's average speed in the first innings was 84.6mph. His average is fractionally faster than Pat Cummins, and it's around about the same speed as Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes.

That puts into context the skills Carey has shown to stand up to that.

Maiden from Scott Boland, who hits his spot every ball of the over to Joe Root.

The former England skipper is happy to play with a straight bat and just defend, with Alex Carey up to the stumps again for the first five balls of the over.

If we can get to 200-4 at close of play with Root and Stokes still at the crease, surely there’s a chance we can do this. Imagine.

    Lovely shot from Zak Crawley.

He misses with a reverse sweep but then crunches a slog-sweep in front of square for four.

There is some turn for Nathan Lyon but the off-spinner's first three overs have gone for 19.

That angled in and jagged away. It might have hit a bit of a hole, but that's an absolute ripper from Scott Boland.

Beauty from Scott Boland to fizz the ball past Joe Root and square up the England right-hander.

That one nipped away off the seam from just back of a length.

Root nudges a single to point before, with the batters trying to get down the track to negate the lateral movement from Boland, Alex Carey comes up to the stumps.

Zak Crawley defends solidly enough from the crease.

Zak Crawley has played really nicely. He is digging in and following his captain's example.

England are determined not to let Nathan Lyon settle and Zak Crawley and Joe Root rotate the strike nicely.

The sweep shot is going to be key to their approach, that much is already clear.

Australia keep subtly changing the field on the leg side to try and put a bit of doubt in the batters' minds before playing it, though.

Well, they are trying to do the right thing these two England batters.

From what I have seen from Nathan Lyon's first over, it is going to be hard.

He got hit for a couple of fours, but there was a lot of bounce and turn. He will use all his experience to keep nagging away. The spin is there.

That over from Lyon may have gone for nine runs, but there were early signs of what's to come with regards to turn.

In the first innings, Nathan Lyon turned the ball an average of 4.2 degrees, in his first over today, he starts with an ave. of 4.9 degrees.

Love your optimism, Tom. But Duckett got a good one? Might have been one of the least dangerous balls that Pat Cummins bowled.

But England needing 100 with four wickets remaining? They'd take that I think.

Just one from another tight Scott Boland over.

With England batting well, Duckett out to a good one, Pope out to a wonderful grab. It is doable for England. Will need a 150 from someone, but it's possible. I see it coming down to needing 100 for the last four with Stokes still in. Win one and they’ll crumble.

This is a fair tactic. England are not going to allow Nathan Lyon to wheel away all day.

England are going to make it difficult for him and put some pressure on him. It might cost a wicket or two, but that's perfectly fine.

Superb from Joe Root. Back-to-back boundaries to end a lively first over from Nathan Lyon.

Zak Crawley brought the reverse-sweep out first ball but found point before a big appeal for a catch at short leg. No bat involved, though.

There's a big puff of dust off the surface as the ball pitches next up, a sweep from Crawley brings a single.

Root then gets on strike, nails a conventional sweep behind square for four, sees the field change and decides to bring out to reverse to add four more.
