A bit disappointing with Joe Root. Just when we thought we were building something. Pat Cummins seems to have his number.

I have been impressed with Zak Crawley. He has slightly tinkered with his game, he is not just this dasher at the top! Nice to see a bit of common sense has rubbed off on him.

Nathan Lyon rattles through his eighth over.

Zak Crawley can't get him away on this occasion, that's a maiden.

The Australians judgement is impeccable. They're getting everything right.

    Another big lbw shout!

It's Harry Brook struck on the pads again, off Scott Boland this time, but it's pretty clearly sliding down and after a conference Australia decide not to review.

Incidentally, with regards to that Brook-Crawley stat, the former came in at number three that time at Headingley too - this is the first time they've batted together with Brook at five.

Zak Crawley and Harry Brook have played 30 Test matches together so far, and this is only the second time they have batted together in a Test.

Both instances have come against Australia - the first in 2023 at Headingley, and this is the second.

Right decision to bring Nathan Lyon back on. Travis Head coming on for those overs has nearly brought a wicket, but it is time for a change back to Lyon.

  9. Eng 129-3published at 36 overs

Quite a big lbw appeal from Nathan Lyon after striking the pads of Harry Brook, but team-mates and umpire alike seem uninterested.

Heading down leg by the look of it, perhaps a touch of bat too.

  10. What you've missed on day fourpublished at 05:06 GMT 20 December 2025

    Just waking up?

Well, after a miserable day three, England's chances looked all but over... and, well, they still do but they have shown some fight in Adelaide.

Travis Head and Alex Carey thrashed it around a bit early on day four but their partnership was broken by Josh Tongue, who removed Head for 170.

England then proceeded to run through Australia in quick time, taking 6-38 to wrap up the innings.

Ben Stokes got Alex Carey, Tongue then removed Josh Inglis before Brydon Carse took two in two with the new ball and Jofra Archer finished it off.

Just a Test record chase of 435 to win then...

Pat Cummins removed Ben Duckett in the two overs possible before lunch and then got rid of Ollie Pope - helped by a stunning catch from Marnus Labuschagne at second slip - in the afternoon session.

However, Zak Crawley and Joe Root came together and batted very nicely for the remainder of the session to raise hopes, ever so slightly, of a famous England win.

Instead, Cummins returned after tea to have Root caught behind - the 13th time he's dismissed him in Tests - and end a 78-run stand.

Root was furious with himself and it's left to Crawley, who has just reached his half-century, and Harry Brook to continue the fight with more than 300 more needed.

    There's the half-century for England's opener!

Nathan Lyon returns to the attack in place of Travis Head and Crawley pushes through mid-off again, picking up three again.

That's enough to take him to 50 from 102 deliveries.

  12. Eng 123-3published at 35 overs

Pat Cummins takes himself out of the attack and brings in Scott Boland.

The veteran seamer sees his first ball pushed through mid-wicket for a single, before Harry Brook faces five balls without scoring.

  15. Eng 122-3published at 34 overs

"Three, three, three," shouts Zak Crawley as he drives Travis Head's last ball through mid-off.

And three it is, with the ball cut off at the boundary.

Zak Crawley has looked good today - he's playing with a different tempo. If there is one where he slightly wants it, he drives it through the off-side. He has looked good.

  17. Eng 118-3published at 33 overs

    Punched away!

Bit of a loose delivery from Pat Cummins and Zak Crawley dispatches the ball through mid-wicket for four.

That's his fifth boundary of the innings.

  18. Eng 113-3published at 32 overs

Harry Brook gets off the mark from the first delivery of Travis Head's over, pushing the ball through point for a single.

The England number five made 52 in his first innings in Perth, but that's his high score in series having scored 0, 31, 15 and 45 since.

A decidedly slower ball in there, and one that bolts past Crawley's head.
