This feels like it is done.

There is something about Brydon Carse bowling at the end - he has given it every single ounce of energy.

  2. Aus 153-5published at 30.4 overs

    Target 160

A bit short from Brydon Carse and Cameron Green guides it with a cut through gully for four. Australia need single figures now.

England have not folded today, they have fought hard. They have made Australia work for every single run.

The series was decided by England’s dropped catches and Australia’s above-career-average performances from Head and Starc. Improve fielding to an average level and match their star impact, and the series becomes even or swings England’s way. Disappointing because it feels like we could have done so much better.

  5. Aus 147-5published at 30 overs

England's fielders attempting to create a bit of theatre for the off-spin of Will Jacks but three byes off the penultimate ball reduces the deficit further.

Comprehensive enough? Not getting 400 once, poor decision making, lack of game awareness/bad shot selection, lack of accountability, Stokes not as tactically astute at usual, injuries, dropped catches, not winning big moments, inconsistent bowling, poor planning/prep, off-field noise...

  7. Aus 144-5published at 29 overs

    Target 160

Cameron Green nudges the final ball of Brydon Carse's over into the leg side and picks up a single to keep the strike.

Australia need 16 runs for victory at the SCG.

All sorts going on. That really was like there were clowns out there.

    Extraordinary.

  9. Aus 142-5published at 28.1 overs

Tip and run from Cameron Green off Brydon Carse, but some overthrows from Carse nearly result in a run out.

Alex Carey calls Green through only to change his mind leaving both men confused which end they should be running to.

They both manage to get back into their ground.

England have shown fight in this Test. I stand by my view that it’s not been the bowling that has fallen short, but the batting (and fielding) that hasn’t been good enough. We needed just one or two more batters each innings to stand up and be counted.

You feel things slightly slipping away now.

At least we did not have Travis Head knocking all the runs off - England have stuck to their guns.

Across the day's play the spinners have found a lot of turn, averaging 4.67° in the 13 overs so far.

Of all day five pitches at the SCG in the ball-tracking era (since 2006-07 Ashes), only once has the average turn been higher than today for the spinners.

Australia 140-5 at drinkspublished at 28 overs

Alex Carey and Cameron Green are keeping it cool. The pair are popping Joe Root into the gaps for singles, and defending anything even remotely tricky.

Australia have known their moments to play low-risk cricket in this series. They need 20 runs to wrap up this Test to secure a 4-1 series win.

  14. Aus 138-5published at 27 overs

    Target 160

Just sensible cricket from Cameron Green, who punches Brydon Carse through the covers for four off the back foot.

It's the hope, the ifs and buts, the drops. Could have won this series. I'm absolutely gutted

  16. Aus 132-5published at 26.2 overs

    Target 160

    Brydon Carse into the attack.

Carse attempts to field off his own bowling and nearly wipes out Cameron Green who is running to the striker's end.

There is not a lot of conviction, a gentle appeal. There is no evidence of bat involved.

This has been a great pitch for spin - Joe Root is keeping the pressure on.

  18. Aus 131-5published at 26 overs

Joe Root with two dots to Cameron Green before one pops up off his pad.

England appeal. For lbw, or caught at short-leg. But neither in play.

England still have a glimmer. A 3% glimmer WinViz reckons. But a glimmer nonetheless.

This Australian team bat deep. Very deep.

Cameron Green and Alex Carey sensibly rotate the strike against Josh Tongue.

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of Jacob Bethell bowling now, turning it away from the left-hander.
