  1. dropped catch

Bates dropped on 12published at 17:17 BST 16 May

    NZ 21-0

Lauren Bell's radar is awry, she's moving the ball around but losing control, a leg side wide going past a diving Amy Jones and away to the boundary for five runs.

Bell then gets one in the right area, and Suzie Bates edges it to Heather Knight at slip - but the former skipper cannot hold on to a tough one low down to her left.

  2. NZ 12-0published at 2 overs

    Target 184 (DLS)

Lauren Filer bustles in for the second over, sending down a wide first up and falling to the floor in the process.

Georgia Plimmer is off the mark by guiding the ball down to third, and for the rest of the over Filer works up a decent head of steam and gives Suzie Bates a good working over until the opener rocks back and pulls the final delivery to the rope at midwicket.

We saw the new ball was hard to play for the England openers. I don't think it's going to be too dissimilar for the New Zealand openers. Bell's got it moving around. She's a bit quicker than what the New Zealand bowlers are, it will be a real test for Bates.

  4. NZ 6-0published at 1 over

    Target 184 (DLS)

Lauren Bell gets one to nip back through Suzie Bates' defences, keeper Amy Jones fumbles it but the Kiwi pair don't run.

Bates then takes a nervy swipe at another wide one, but from the last she nudges past along the floor for two more.

  5. NZ 4-0published at 0.2 overs

    Target 184 (DLS)

Bell's first delivery is wide outside off, but the second takes Bates' edge and zips down to the boundary at third.

    Target 184 (DLS)

Don't forget, New Zealand will face 33 overs. That breaks down as three bowlers bowling a maximum of seven overs, and two with six.

That's a bit for Charlie Dean to juggle, but here is Lauren Bell to send down the first delivery to Suzie Bates.

    Target 184 (DLS)

We're about to see Suzie Bates' final one-day international innings. Her first was on, wait for it, 11th March 2006 in her third match, having not batted in her first two.

The UK's number one single that day was the unforgettable banger that was "It's Chico time", by Chico, of course. For completeness' sake, the number one in New Zealand was "Run it" by Chris Brown featuring Juelz Santana.

    Thanks, Mike.

I don't think we'll have too long to wait for New Zealand's innings, and the sun is now cracking the flags in Cardiff.

England scored 47 off their final five overs to give themselves a defendable target in Cardiff.

We're anticipating a short interval - here comes Tim Oscroft to guide you through that and the start of New Zealand's reply.

New Zealand won't be that happy with their death bowling there. It's given England a bit of momentum going into the break.

When you chase with DLS, you know what you've got to go at, what your run rate needs to be.

  11. Eng 181-7published at 33 overs

    Finished with a four!

Sophie Ecclestone slaps Jess Kerr through the covers to close the innings with a boundary.

Before that, Ecclestone took two to mid-wicket before the batters exchanged singles.

    New Zealand will chase a DLS-adjusted 184.

As a team, England have a strike rate of 172 with the pull shot over the last two years.

Today, deliveries short or back of a length have been hard to time, and England have struck at just 114 with this shot type.

It's the right idea, you've got six balls to go. Amy Jones just didn't get the connection she would like.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.1 overs

    Jones c Sharp b J Kerr 27 (Eng172-7)

Dropped on top of the square leg fielder!

Amy Jones drops to a knee and tries to heave Jess Kerr over the ropes.

Instead she picks out Izzy Sharp out on the boundary - we're still without a six today.

A decent lower-order innings from Jones, with 27 from 21 balls - here comes Sophie Ecclestone.

  15. Eng 172-6published at 32 overs

Another four for Amy Jones, nailing Rosemary Mair to the left of the extra cover fielder.

Charlie Dean then steps across her stumps and scoops her first round through fine leg.

That's Rosemary Mair finished with figures of 2-41 - her final over is the most expensive of the innings with 12 runs, and is the first with multiple boundaries.

Amy Jones was getting a bit too obsessed with going on leg side but there she's used her feet nicely and opened up.

  17. Eng 160-6published at 31 overs

    That's nice.

Amy Jones steps down to Melie Kerr and plays a well-timed lofted drive over the covers for four.

Prior to that, Charlie Dean brought up England's 150 with an edged single to third.

11 off the over, the most expensive of the innings - late acceleration?

  18. Eng 149-6published at 30 overs

Woops, that's off to the ropes.

Suzie Bates sends a ball down the leg side, it scuds off the leg of Amy Jones and beats the chasing fielder to the boundary.

Charlie Dean then misses an attempted reverse sweep and Bates goes up for just one more ODI wicket - Sue Redfearn is having none of it.

England's run-rate is 4.97 an over with three to go.

  19. Eng 141-6published at 29 overs

A first four for Amy Jones!

She slams Nensi Patel through long-off - that's just the third boundary since the resumption and the 12th overall.

  20. Eng 134-6published at 28 overs

Suzie Bates is going to have a bowl in her final ODI!

The 38-year-old, who has 83 wickets at 34.13 in this format, concedes seven runs from this over.

She does fumble a run-out chance as Amy Jones returns to the bowler's end for a Charlie Dean two - that could have been close.
