Have your say on England women this summer

  1. NZ 108-4published at 19 overs

    Need 76 from 84 balls

    That sat up nicely.

Short and wide from the returning Lauren Filer and Izzy Gaze slashes a four through backward point.

Lauren Bell's misfield at mid-off then hands two more runs to New Zealand.

Why is no one reviewing any decisions? I know the NZ ones would have been out umpires call (that shows how close they were), but England's looked plumb.

    Pat, Milton Keynes

  3. NZ 100-4published at 18 overs

    Need 84 from 90 balls

Wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze is the next batter for New Zealand.

She takes an immediate single to mid-wicket, before the ball deflects off Brooke Halliday's pads for two leg-byes - that's New Zealand's hundred up.

We were saying how good Maddy Green's been this year. It was an absolute beauty to dismiss the in form batter. That is crucial for England.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.3 overs

    Green b Gibson 37 (NZ 97-4)

    Stumps broken!

A fantastic ball from Dani Gibson removes the in-form Maddy Green with a delivery that nips back between pad and bat and takes off the bails.

A crucial breakthrough - Green heads back to the pavilion and her ODI average for 2026 drops to a mere 92.

New Zealand are doing a lot better today at rotating the strike, trying to turn those good balls into singles.

  7. drinks break

    NZ 94-3published at 17 overs

Ooooh, that would have been out.

Charlie Dean strikes Brooke Halliday on the pads and gets a shake of the head from umpire Sue Redfearn.

Captain Dean doesn't review - she should have done, it's all reds on the ball tracker.

The players are going to take drinks in the Cardiff mizzle - New Zealand need 90 from 96 balls, England require seven wickets.

  8. How stat?!published at 18:17 BST 16 May

    Thanks Tim.

I agree, it's all set up rather nicely.

Here's Charlie Dean for her fourth over.

  10. NZ 90-3published at 16 overs

Sophie Ecclestone has been whipped off after going for 13, left arm spin being replaced by the seam bowling of Dani Gibson.

She's worked around for four, including a wide, as Halliday and Green bring up a 50 partnership off 59 balls.

It's bubbling up nicely, so who better to take you through to the conclusion than m'learned friend Mike Peter?

    Here he is.

Sophie Ecclestone is a fantastic bowler but I think she's been worked out by the top teams

  12. NZ 86-3published at 15 overs

    Target 184 (DLS)

New Zealand are starting to put the England fielders and bowlers under pressure, Charlie Dean being nurdled around for four off the latest over.

There are spits and spots of rain around again...

There was more swing and seam movement for England seamers in the first 10 overs compared to New Zealand today:

    • Eng: Ave swing = 2.2º / Ave. seam = 1.1 º
    • NZ: Ave swing = 1.9º / Ave. seam = 0.8º
  14. NZ 82-3published at 14 overs

Maddy Green cuts Sophie Ecclestone backwards of square for three, and with another single taken off the last, the left-arm spinner concedes 13 from the over.

  15. NZ 77-3published at 13.3 overs

Brooke Halliday latches onto a loose one from Sophie Ecclestone, starting the over well with a pull to the rope behind square leg.

Halliday then executes a reverse sweep perfectly to send Ecclestone to the rope at third.

  16. NZ 69-3published at 13 overs

    Target: 184 (DLS)

Maddy Green is building up a nice head of steam now, she advances down the pitch again and drives Charlie Dean for another four, this time past cover.

The asking rate is still under a run a ball, no need for panic from New Zealand.

You've got to be innovative against Sophie Ecclestone, you've got to throw her off that line. I like that from Maddy Green. She doesn't fully get hold of it but that's enough against Ecclestone, you're getting in her head.

  18. NZ 61-3published at 10.2 overs

That's a cute shot from Maddy Green, getting down the pitch to make a Sophie Ecclestone shot into a full toss which is paddled to the rope at fine leg.

Next ball, the batter strides down the wicket to lift the ball over to to midwicket's boundary.

Charlie Dean's been very proactive on a pitch like this where it is quite slow. England are forcing the batters to think unconventionally.

New Zealand were clear favourites just a few overs ago but Lauren Bell 's three wickets have given this game a very different look.
