One point of difference will be how hard Sri Lanka go at it knowing what we now know with this pitch. England understandably were still cautious at the top.

Harry Brook finished unbeaten on 136 off 66 balls. He hit 11 fours and nine sixes in his knock.

Joe Root ended up 111 not out off 108 balls with nine fours and one six.

Dear Harry, amazing from you. Congratulations, but if you see in the context of the first two matches it was even more enjoyable to watch.

Variety is the spice of life, Ruth. It's what makes cricket such a compelling watch.

A word for Jacob Bethell as well, who played quite magnificently before he was dismissed. His innings almost feels like a bit of an afterthought now.

Magnificent by the two Yorkshire lads and that's from a Lancashire fan.

Too quite different knocks in style, but both equally enjoyable in their own way.

Joe Root purred like a classic Rolls Royce, while Harry Brook was the flashy red Ferrari.

There’s your timely reminder that Harry Brook is one of the greatest talents ever produced by English cricket. An absolute maverick.

Harry Brook has his highest ODI score and he gets there by going inside out to Asitha Fernando over the long-off boundary again.

A dizzing innings from the England captain. The heads of Sri Lanka's bowlers most be spinning after that assault.

Even if the shots being mistimed by Harry Brook are going for four now.

He dances down the track and hacks at one from Asitha Fernando but it races away for four.

Just as Saturday's pitch wasn’t as bad as some made out; this one isn’t as good as some might think. So fair play to Sri Lanka if they chase it down because led by Joe Root and Harry Brook this has been exceptional.

    Majestic batting from Harry Brook.

The England batter backs away a fraction and goes inside out - Suryakumar Yadav styley - to crack Asitha Fernando over the boundary at long-off for a breathtaking six.

Asitha Fernando with the final over.

Joe Root helps a bouncer on its way round the corner but has to settle for a single.

What can Harry Brook do off these final four balls?

If Brook gets out, England should just declare.

An eventful conclusion to the over.

Harry Brook skies one off Jeffrey Vandersay but the Sri Lanka spinner cannot get back to claim the catch.

Brook then mullers Vandersay across the line and the ball seems destined to go for four or six but he fielder at deep has the presence of mind to palm back in the air.

The England skipper finishes with a boundary, though, smearing the Sri Lanka leg-spinner for four through point.

    Phew.

Powerful innings from the English captain. It's acknowledged here by everybody.

Blasted away to yet another international century. Lots of fours and sixes.

Century for Brookpublished at 48.1 overs

Bit of a wide long hop from Jeffrey Vandersay and Harry Brook cuts it square for four. Easy as you like, the England skipper has century off just 57 balls.
