  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.1 overs

    Mishara c Ahmed b Jacks 22 (SL 48-1)

Will Jacks has burgled one first ball!

Dragged down horribly, wide of off... and Kamil Mishara, on the cut, has managed to dolly it into the hands of Rehan Ahmed at backward point.

    Great cricket all round...

  2. SL 48-0published at 5 overs

    Target 358

Unrelenting from the Sri Lanka openers.

Only a fraction short from Liam Dawson but that is enough for Kamil Mishara, who gives himself room and crashes the ball through the cover for four.

  3. SL 42-0published at 4.1 overs

    Target 358

England turn to spin but it's not helping them so far.

Liam Dawson watches as Pathum Nissanka carves his first ball through backward point on the cut. Top shot.

  5. SL 38-0published at 4 overs

    Target 358

The runs keep coming as Pathum Nissanka flicks the ball off his pads and past short fine leg for four.

The over ends with Kamil Mishara waiting on a slower ball from Sam Curran and slapping it through point for another boundary.

Jamie Overton is not an opening bowler! Surely the previous two games have shown this.

  7. SL 28-0published at 3.1 overs

    Target 358

Too full and slightly wide as well from Sam Curran, allowing Kamil Mishara to free his arms and hit fluently over mid-off for four.

A long way to go but England's 357 doesn't look quite so mammoth after this start from Sri Lanka...

That's gone a long way. That's the danger. Pathum Nissanka picks that up absolutely beautifully.

  10. 6 runs

    SL 24-0published at 3 overs

    Target 358

Wow, what a pick-up from Pathum Nissanka!

After three dot balls to start the over, the Sri Lanka whips the next over mid-wicket for six - that's a big hit.

He follows that up by nailing the ball back over Jamie Overton's head for four.

  11. SL 12-0published at 2 overs

    Target 358

Good first over from Sam Curran.

The left-arm seamer cramps Kamil Mishara for room for the most part and when he does go a littler wider later in the over, the ball doesn't really come onto the bat and the Sri Lanka opener plinks the ball into the covers.

Pitchedoutsideleg: Amazing what a bit of match practice can do for England. Too late for the Ashes lesson to be learned now though.

  13. SL 11-0published at 1 over

    Target 358

Sri Lanka are not holding back - and given the target, they don't really have a choice.

Kamil Mishara twice pounces on some width from Jamie Overton, firstly drilling the ball through the covers and then, a couple of balls later, edging one wide of slip and away to the boundary.

It was a great effort from Ben Duckett after Jamie Overton slipped a bit on the crease and dragged it down. It's saved a run.

  16. dropped catch

Nissanka dropped on 0published at 0.1 overs

    SL 3-0

    Nearly a wicket first ball!

Short from Jamie Overton, Pathum Nissanka takes it on with the pull shot and Ben Duckett almost takes a screamer at mid-wicket.

It goes down as a drop but that would have been a stunning grab. Tipped over the bar and the ball is pulled back just short of the rope.

    Right then, it's go time.

The players are back out and Jamie Overton is at the top of his mark, ready to bowl the first over.

Joe Root is a genius, and like many of the greats (Sir Jimmy springs to mind) he’s only getting better with age. A word also for Harry Brook, has come in for stick recently and rightly so, but what a talent he is. Great to see.

I’m thinking that miserly Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson will be crucial, and the Sam Curran variations.

    Thanks, Tim.

Well, England certainly made that pitch look a whole lot better than those in the first two ODIs of this series, and given Sri Lanka's record chase in this format is 322, while the highest at this ground in 292, it is hard to look past the tourists.

Still, if Sri Lanka get anywhere close, it should make for a fascinating watch.
