Well done, Pathum Nissanka. He's given his side a big start but his job is not done yet.

He's someone who could play a big part in this.

A single into the covers takes Pathum Nissanka to a brilliant 24-ball half-century.

The Sri Lanka opener has been superb to lift the hosts' hopes of pulling off a stunning win.

Still a lot more work to do, though. One over left in the powerplay.

England's target looked imposing but if Sri Lanka continue at this pace, they will win with 14 overs to spare!

    What did I tell you?

Pathum Nissanka welcomes Sam Curran back to the attack by flaying the ball high over the leg side for six more.

With regards to this ground - the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo - the highest successful ODI chase by any team is by Sri Lanka. They chased target of 292 vs Australia in 2022. They would eclipse that total and some if they pull it off today.

Two dot balls to end the over. We've not seen a whole lot of them so far in this innings.

Pathum Nissanka is still there for Sri Lanka and he's on strike so don't expect many more.

Pavan Rathnayake is the new batter, having been promoted up the order.

A catch from Harry Brook to perhaps help save him from some awkward pitch questions later.

Kusal Mendis wasn't able to control that strike. It went straight to the captain, who made no mistake.

    Second wicket down.

That's why. Slapped straight to mid-off.

Sri Lanka have to keep attacking as they chase such a big total and it only takes a slight mistake.

Kusal Mendis makes one here, not getting quite enough elevation as he tries to hit Jamie Overton over the top.

    Good catch from Harry Brook.

    So good from Kusal Mendis.

He watches the ball all the way onto his bat as he stays leg side of it and ramps over Jos Buttler for four.

Sri Lanka's highest successful chase overall is target of 322, set by England at Leeds in 2006. Their highest successful chase at home is a target of 314 vs Afghanistan in 2022 (Pallekele).

Jamie Overton is back... and Kusal Mendis smashes his first ball back over mid-off for four.

Then hooks the second over deep backward square for six!

    This is remarkable.

Wonderful game with pressure so quickly back on England.

Until now it’s the batters who have had to adjust to conditions, now it’s the bowlers' turn.

This is an exhilarating attempt at a chase from Sri Lanka already. Harry Brook is going to have to do some thinking here.

England's bowlers have definitely not got it right so far, but this does look a superb pitch for batting now.

Only a fraction short from Liam Dawson and Pathum Nissanka goes back and pulls powerfully over mid-wicket for four.

Just two from the next four balls before Nissanka skips down and hammers the last down the ground for six!

    Sri Lanka are absolutely flying!

Any variation and length unintended, in other words when it's a little bit short, will get punished here.

It's such a contrast from England's cautious start to this game. Sri Lanka, with this massive challenge, have to get on with it.

  18. SL 58-1published at 6 overs

Another shocker of a delivery from Will Jacks, again too short and this time turn well down leg.

Pathum Nissanka gratefully slaps it away to the fence.

Not quite as bad to end the over but still too short and pulled for four more.

A wicket-taking over but a very expensive one.

They do say bad balls in white-ball cricket get you wickets and Will Jacks did that with his first ball.

Rehan Ahmed takes the simplest of catches and somehow England have a wicket.
