    Liyanage run out (Brook/Buttler) 22 (SL 174-5)

Rather comical run-out if the truth be told.

A complete communications breakdown between Janith Liyanage and Pavan Rathnayake results in the former being run out.

Liyanage had dabbed one into the covers and set off and after a mid-pitch conference discussing the merits of the run Harry Brook throws it to Jos Buttler who whips the bails off.

Liyanage trudges off and Sanath Jayasuriya in the dugout has a face like thunder.

    Thanks, Sam.

Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson continues. We're firmly in the middle overs of the chase here.

Turn and bounce for Jacob Bethell in his first over and it leads to Pavan Rathnayake popping the ball up into the off side.

Fortunately for Sri Lanka, it's into the gap. Just a single.

And again! This time it's Janith Liyanage who chips it just over extra cover and gets two.

The ball is starting to hold in the surface a touch, good news for England as Timothy Abraham comes in to see this one through to its conclusion.

Will Jacks is showing why he can be a highly regarded spin bowler. He gets so much turn all he needs now is consistency. Liam Dawson on the other hand is nowhere near international level.

Two from the last ball of the over makes it six from the Liam Dawson over.

That will probably do for Sri Lanka for the next little while, provided they don't lose any more wickets.

That was the question Liam Dawson was asking straight away, 'has he gloved it?'. To be fair, he had a much better view of it than Jos Buttler.

    That's a review gone.

  7. Not outpublished at 23.2 overs

    SL 165-4

    Glove. Nothing but glove.

Not out and Sri Lanka get three. England are down to one review.

  8. England reviewpublished at 23.2 overs

    SL 162-4

England don't seem convinced but they go for a review for lbw after Janith Liyanage goes a long way across his stumps to sweep.

The question is whether there is any glove on it or not? If not, he could be in trouble.

Increasing turn now. Wonderful game to watch. England wrestling it back, but still, if Sri Lanka get a good partnership going...

  10. SL 162-4published at 23 overs

    Target 358

    Top shot from Pavan Rathnayake.

Great use of the feet before drilling the ball past mid-off on the drive. That was right out of the middle of the bat.

Just two singles from the next five balls, though, as Will Jacks drags it back.

  11. SL 156-4published at 22 overs

    Target 358

Very good over from Liam Dawson, just a single from it and the pitch does appear to be taking more turn now.

And with that, the required rate has jumped above the current run-rate for the first time in the chase - 7.21 to 7.09.

England need to be wary here, as this is not over yet. If this pair can stick around for another 10-15 overs at roughly a run a ball, it's game on.

  13. SL 155-4published at 21 overs

    Target 358

Better over for Sri Lanka as they take seven from Will Jacks' latest.

They should get three when Janith Liyanage reverse-sweeps through backward point but end up settling for two.

The three does come a couple of balls later when Pavan Rathnayake glances it away fine before Jacks finds a dot to end the over, getting significant turn back in to Liyanage.

  14. SL 148-4published at 20 overs

    Target 358

Three dot balls start Liam Dawson's over and although Sri Lanka take four from the next three, the required rate is back up to seven.

  15. SL 144-4published at 19 overs

    Target 358

Adil Rashid thinks Janith Liyanage has feathered behind on the cut, as does Will Jacks at cover, but Jos Buttler behind the stumps is having none of it.

The wicketkeeper is right and Harry Brook will be glad to have sided with his predecessor. No bat involved.

Liyanage just about gets his bat down in time to keep out a googly next ball and earn one of four singles in the over.

  16. SL 140-4published at 18 overs

    Target 358

Pavan Rathnayake and Janith Liyanage exchange singles before the latter lifts the ball over mid-wicket and into the gap for two.

Four from Liam Dawson's over as England continue to drag that Sri Lanka run-rate down.

England’s spin unit (3.8º) are getting approximately 46% more turn than Sri Lanka did in the first innings (2.6º).

In the previous match England spinners were turning the ball more than Sri Lanka, but only by 9%.

Looking at that run-rate and wickets lost, have Sri Lanka taken up Bazball?

    Tom, Lancashire

Watching Sri Lanka go hard and now starting to fizzle out... and then had a sickening thought. Is this how the Aussies felt facing England/Bazball?

  19. drinks break

    SL 136-4published at 17 overs

    Target 358

Big-turning googly to end the Adil Rashid over. It surprises Pavan Rathnayake but he keeps it out.

Just three from the over as the players stop for drinks.

Sri Lanka's start was such that they're still going at eight an over. However, while their run-rate is beginning to drop, the require rate is creeping back up towards sevens.

What a strange game this is; scoreboard pressure and all that, but for Sri Lanka to look at this and think we can settle down a bit isn’t easy. But they’ve got a bit of time to get partnerships going…
