Joe Root smells a century here.

He moves on to 75 - the number he perished on during in the second ODI - with some handy strokeplay square of the wicket.

Root reverse paddles Jeffrey Vandersay for four before punishing something slightly shorter with a biff through mid-wicket for another boundary.

The Yorkshireman smartly throwing the Sri Lanka leggie off his lengths.

  4. Eng 173-3published at 33 overs

Harry Brook and Joe Root nudge Dunith Wellalage around.

I'm still coming to terms with that Jacob Bethell dismissal, to be honest.

Jacob Bethell was quick to get in position and the ball of shorter length has been dispatched well, but this time he picks out the fielder.

It's a massive wicket in this contest.

Arghhhh. A masterpiece was under being carefully painted only for a frustrated toddler to come and smear felt tip pen all over it.

That needless over-aggression I was talking about? Well here it it is. Jacob Bethell having batted so beautifully - so majestically - swipes across the line to a pretty average ball from Jeffrey Vandersay and his caught in the deep.

Bethell goes on his haunches. He knows he's given that away.

Not sure if anyone's noticed, but this Bethell lad seems quite good!

The best thing about that over from Jacob Bethell was absolutely nothing was overhit or mistimed. It was Matrix-esque batsmanship form the young left-hander.

Joe Root continues to build some momentum for England with a deft sweep off Dunith Wellalage before stepping across the line later in the over and crisply striking the spinner through mid-wicket for four.

16 off an over! Let me lay down for a moment. Jacob Bethell playing some quality shots to bring up his 50 and a century stand with Joe Root; now keep going. The concentration and patience are still needed. Bethell is such an exciting talent.

The left-hander finishes the over with a textbook cover drive.

    Absolutely beautiful stuff.

Jacob Bethell picks the slower ball very early. He readjusts and plays a beautiful shot.

Lovely hands from the left-hander. Worthy of a standing ovation.

It's been a fine start for him in this contest and you want him to kick on.
