Adil Rashid and his box of tricks are next.

Kusal Mendis picks the leg-spinner's googly and slog sweeps him for four.

Rashid is a fraction short with his length off the final ball of the over and Mendis rocks back in his crease and pummels him for another boundary.

Harry Brook's captaincy looks clueless. It seems to be you have an over ooh that's not good try next one then next one and repeat.

  3. SL 58-1published at 6 overs

End of the powerplay and Jofra Archer manages to stymie Sri Lanka's momentum a little.

That was the first time that Pathum Nissanka lost his shape. He got a bit excited there and there was no foot movement.

    Nissanka b Archer 34 (SL 56-1)

Jofra Archer returns and gets England a much-needed breakthrough as Pathum Nissanka drags on.

It's a fraction wider from Archer and Nissanka throws the kitchen sink at it, but a bottom edge deflects the ball on to the stumps.

  7. SL 54-0published at 5 overs

Will Jacks manages to get through the remainder of the over relatively unscathed.

    SL 53-0published at 4.3 overs

A slog sweep from Pathum Nissanka who hits it as clean as a whistle over the boundary at square leg.

Strong wrists from the Sri Lanka opener.

Well, Harry Brook is not afraid to mix it up and after that first few overs Will Jacks worked well. Unexpected but put the brakes on after the Pathum Nissanka assault.

  11. SL 45-0published at 4 overs

Liam Dawson into the attack. He starts well but then his fifth delivery is a full toss which is creamed away by Kamil Mishara through point.

  12. SL 39-0published at 3 overs

Harry Brook responds to this early onslaught by tossing the ball to all-rounder Will Jacks.

Jacks' off spin blunts the scoring as he varies his pace. A good bit of fielding from Phil Salt on the boundary at deep mid-wicket prevents Pathum Nissanka punishing one dropped a fraction short.

Four runs off the over. Much needed for England and Brook.

Why are England unchanged for this match? Surely they should be looking to give all members of the squad match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka have started like a train here.

The left-handed Kamil Mishara whips his bat across the line and pings Jofra Archer over the rope for another six.

  15. SL 27-0published at 1.2 overs

A bit of a sloppy start from England with the ball.

Jofra Archer fires one down the legs side which nips even further away and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler cannot prevent it racing away for wides to the delight of the Sri Lankan fans in the crowd.

  17. 6 runs

    SL 22-0published at 1.2 overs

Jofra Archer finds a hint of swing with his first ball but Pathum Nissanka flicks it off his toes for a couple.

Nissanka then uses all the pace that Archer can generate by whipping it into the stands for an eye-catching six.

Pure timing and a shrug of the shoulders from Archer.

England have batted first in only 10 of their 29 completed T20Is since the start of 2024.

With Harry Brook electing to chase once again today, could the England batting line-up be a little undercooked when it comes to setting a score at the World Cup?

  19. SL 14-0published at 1 over

Short and wide from Sam Curran and Pathum Nissanka leaps in the air to upper cut it for a one-bounce four.

Three successive boundaries for Nissanka before he nudges himself off strike from the final ball of the over.

  20. SL 8-0published at 0.3 overs

Two fours off Sam Curran's first three balls from Pathum Nissanka.

The first is a fortunate edge, but the second the right-handed Nissanka steps across his stumps and lap sweeps it round the corner for four.
