I've been impressed with the variations from bowlers, restricting runs will be key in the World Cup.

That's assuming we get back on at all, Tim!

If we don't it's Sri Lanka's first win against England in T20s since 2014.

Also, in England's defence, Sri Lanka have also gone three seamers and two front-line spinners - and they had the balance at four and one in the last match.

The rain arriving might help England. The ball will get wet in the outfield. Was this a strategic masterstroke by batting second? Giving up 189 to Sri Lanka is still poor though. Archer, Curran and Overton expensive. Seamers being expensive in sub continent surprise surprise!

A bit of a scoot around some other fixtures while we wait for further news.

Both Scotland and Ireland have qualified for the Women's T20 World Cup, which is to be staged in England this summer.

They beat the United States and Thailand respectively to secure their places.

Meanwhile, in the Women's Premier League final group game, Delhi Capitals are 47-1 in the eighth over chasing 123.

There is some suggestion from the ground that the rain has stopped and we might be getting back on here.

A bit of a wait and see job at the moment.

    Good shout, Sheila.

On that front, India have just beaten Pakistan in the final match of the group stages.

The result means England will face Australia in the semi-final on Tuesday and India will face Afghanistan on Wednesday, with both games live on 5 Sports Extra.

If this doesn’t go the way we want I suggest we take huge comfort from our under-19s recently qualifying to the semi-finals of their World Cup. Superb effort from them.

    Oh dear.

We've got some rain in Pallekele.

Some big teams of ground staff swiftly cover the square with plastic sheeting.

The DLS par score is 69, so Sri Lanka win this if we don't get back on.

  9. Eng 56-2published at 7 overs

A solid first over from spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who, like fellow leggie Adil Rashid, comes into the attack straight from the powerplay.

Five runs from the over, with three of them coming from some hard running down to third from Jos Buttler.

Why are England playing three seamers? Don't bowl their allocation and get hammered! We are clearly a batsman short.

Reversed again, along the ground this time.

Jos Buttler adds his fifth boundary and brings up England's 50 from the penultimate ball of the powerplay.

Buttler takes a leg side single from Dunith Wellalage's last delivery and now back go the fielders.

For the record, Sri Lanka were 58-1 at the end of the powerplay.

    Plenty of air on that!

Tom Banton hits England's first six, whipping Dunith Wellalage's delivery over backward point with a reverse sweep.

Good bowling from Shanaka he saw Bethell trying to give himself room but Bethell was off balance. Big wicket, huge wicket.

  14. Eng 39-2published at 5 overs

New batter Tom Banton manages a single past mid-off to get off the mark.

Five runs off the over and three from the last - England's required run-rate ticks above 10 an over.

Dasun Shanaka has England's young gun!

Jacob Bethell backs away early to a bouncer from the Sri Lanka captain, looking to cut uppishly over the in-field.

He only manages to offer a faint edge through to Kusal Mendis behind the stumps.

The 22-year-old had driven the first ball of the over through the covers, but is now heading off the field.

Eshan Malinga into the attack and it's a successful first over.

It goes for just three runs, with Jacob Bethell taking two through point then running a single off a mis-timed pull.

Jos Buttler steps out of his crease having hit the final ball of the over to fine leg and has to rapidly get himself back behind the line, doing so in a rather ungainly fashion.

  17. Eng 31-1published at 3 overs

Sri Lanka turn to spin with Dunith Wellalage, who didn't play in the first match of the series.

Jos Buttler gets yet another boundary through backward point, reverse sweeping the slow bowler.

Wellalage's final ball then beats everything and just about makes the rope ahead of the chasing fielder - that's four in the byes column.

  18. Eng 21-1published at 2 overs

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka puts himself on at the other end, and cuts the ball between the body and bat of Jos Buttler.

He goes up for an appeal for caught behind, but that likely clipped the top of the pad and after a moment's pause he chooses not to review his own delivery.

Buttler follows-up by cracking the next ball through backward point for four, before new batter Jacob Bethell clubs through mid-wicket for his first boundary, with both shots beating the despairing dives of fielders.

A score like that is what we call 'a pinch of Salt'.

    Massive wicket.

Sri Lanka have removed the dangerous Phil Salt in the first over.

The opener tries to guide Matheesha Pathirana's last delivery through the off side with a horizontal bat.

It's a slower delivery and pretty wide, and the ball clips off the upper edge of Salt's bat and flies to Kamil Mishara at slip for a comfortable catch.
