    Eng 121-3

It's outside the line, so Harry Brook survives! He was beaten all ends up by that delivery, however.

I think this has hit Harry Brook outside the line.

  3. Australia reviewpublished at 26 overs

Noisy appeals for lbw against Harry Brook! The umpire said no.

Scott Boland likes it and this time, they've convinced Steve Smith to send it upstairs.

  4. Eng 115-3published at 25 overs

Joe Root is running hard, charging for back-to-back twos.

Five from it. Mitchell Starc has 0-41 from seven overs in England's second innings.

Tim, Tim, Tim... what have you done?! England were 45-0 when I handed over to you!

    Mitchell Starc is also returning...

A pivotal hour for England. I'm a bag of nerves. Thankfully, Elizabeth Botcherby is her usual stoic self and will talk you through the remainder of the day.

Alex Carey behind the stumps has been magnificent.

He is standing up to a bowler who is bowling 134kph (83mph).

Carey is one of those cricketers I would love in my team. He is a 7/10 every game and he is rock solid.

  8. Eng 110-3published at 24 overs

    Trail by 67 runs

Alex Carey is stood up to Michael Neser denying Harry Brook the chance to skip down the pitch as is his want. Might be doing England a favour, actually.

Sir Alastair Cook has just said on TNT Sports that his fellow pundit Matt Prior would "implode" if Brook runs down the pitch here.

One hour and five minutes of cricket left and England look to be heading towards an inevitable defeat here.

  10. Eng 107-3published at 23 overs

Joe Root is flummoxed by one which stays low from Brendan Doggett, affording a wry smile as it scuttles through to Alex Carey behind the stumps

  11. Eng 105-3published at 22.1 overs

Deftly played by Joe Root, who opens the face and guides Brendan Doggett down to third for four. Nicely played.

Ok so, let’s go there - what would be a score to get Aus a bit nervy? Is the pitch suggesting batting might get a bit more tricky as time ticks by?

  14. Eng 101-3published at 22 overs

A lot is hanging on England's all-time leading runscorer and arguably their most talented batter here.

Steve Smith has been excellent with his reviews and he's decided to not go upstairs.

  16. Eng 101-3published at 21.3 overs

Harry Brook gets a nip-backer from Michael Neser first up and Australia's players - caught up in the theatre and emotion of it all - celebrate.

Brook has neither nicked nor, nor is lbw really in play.

Australia decline to review as reality sets in that's actually not out.

It is a shocker. Two in two - Ollie Pope and now Zak Crawley.

The problem? It's so obvious and it's so predictable what is going to happen.

Crawley played nice - to get out in that fashion is just all too predictable.

England have gifted Australia two wickets. Harry Brook now. Anything can happen.

    Crawley c & b Neser 44 (Eng 97-3)

Gah. Michael Neser delivers with another caught-and-bowled wicket for Australia.

Like Ollie Pope before him Zak Crawley is guilty of driving down the wrong line on the up and ends up chipping it back off the inside of the bat to the Aussie seamer.

    England wobbling.

  20. Eng 97-2published at 21 overs

There's actually a semi-interesting story behind Steve Smith's eye strips in which Nathan Lyon played a key part as written up by journalist Bharat Sundaresan.

Smith asked Lyon, ambassador for National Inclusion Ambassador for Cricketers with a Disability, to reach out to a contact at the Australian Deaf cricket team who works for one of the teams in the Australian Baseball League to source him some.
