  1. Eng 123-5published at 30 overs

That might be the most exhausting wicket-maiden I've seen. Two overturned wickets, one in England's favour and the other in Australia's, noisy lbw appeals...

And England are still trailing by 54 runs.

  2. Eng 123-5published at 29.4 overs

Oh, we love an appeal, don't we?

Scott Boland is very enthusiastic about an lbw against Jamie Smith but Marnus Labuschagne, in Steve Smith's ear, says it was going down. Australia wisely opt against the review.

Australia went up half-heartedly and it was given out, but there was a massive gap.

Then the very next ball Australia go wild. Harry Brook stood still, the umpire doesn't raise his finger, but that time it was out.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 29.3 overs

    Brook c Carey b Boland 15 (Eng 123-5)

BIG SPIKE! Alex Carey crouches, frog like, and takes the ball in two hands just above the grass.

Harry Brook has to depart for 15 (21). Out walks Jamie Smith.

And further to my earlier enjoyment of 123-4 as a score. How lovely is 123-5?

What drama! Two in two reviews! I think Brook has hit this one.

  6. Australia reviewpublished at 29.3 overs

    It's all happening!

Australia go up for another caught behind against Harry Brook.

The umpire says no. Steve Smith reviews it. This one looks good for Australia.

  7. Not outpublished at 29.2 overs

There's a huge gap between bat and ball. A good review from Harry Brook.

I don't know how that has been given out.

  9. England reviewpublished at 29.2 overs

The finger goes up! Harry Brook has been given out caught behind!

    Brook has sent it upstairs.

  10. Eng 123-4published at 29 overs

Harry Brook takes a single and the scoreboard moves to an enormously satisfying 123-4. Ben Stokes does the decent thing and defends the next two to enable me to enjoy this moment. Thanks Ben.

    Harry Brook don't do that!

Don't play that ball - there is no need. Mitchell Starc is changing the angle and bowling the ball across Harry Brook.

You're in the Test match you're trying to make the deficit as few as possible.

You're playing a shot which got you out in the first innings.

  12. Eng 122-4published at 28.3 overs

Oh, Harry, NO! Brook plays and misses, and the ball is snaffled by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

He leaves the next two alone.

  13. Eng 122-4published at 28 overs

A maiden for Scott Boland as Ben Stokes opts for defence. Mitchell Starc is getting ready to come steaming in again.

    How are we all feeling?

In Tests in the last year (since Nov 2024), Zak Crawley has been out caught by a pace bowler on 14 occasions.

Four of these 14 have been caught by the bowler. 29% of his caught dismissals v pacers have been by a bowler, while the global average in the last one year is 2.3%.

12 other batters have been out caught by bowler in the same timeline, and all of them just on once occasion each.

  15. Eng 122-4published at 27 overs

Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a single.

England still trail by 55 runs.

Mitchell Starc has just given a little wave to the crowd as he settles back into position on the boundary. I'm running out of words to describe him. Maybe he should have the next Test off...

Joe Root was brilliant in that first innings, but England are in a spot of bother.

I know we were talking about tomorrow, but Australia will be thinking about tonight.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26.3 overs

    Root c Carey b Starc 15 (Eng 121-4)

    HUGE WICKET.

A big deflection through to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. He went up immediately in celebration and Steve Smith reviewed it a beat later.

Joe Root departs for 15 (36). He didn't need to play at that one.

    A nervy 45 minutes beckons.

  19. Australia reviewpublished at 26.3 overs

Steve Smith has gone straight upstairs with this one!

He wants Joe Root out caught behind!

    There was a noise!

It did do Harry Brook that delivery, but he has looked a little calmer out in the middle.
