Dragged down by Dan Lawrence and Jhye Richardson pulls away down to fine leg for four.

    Useful runs these for Yorkshire.

  2. Postpublished at 12:54 BST 16 May

    Gloucs 154 v Northants 73-4

This has not been a fluent innings by any means by Luke Procter but he's still there on 36 - plus fluency is very hard to find on this pitch.

Plenty of movement and some bounce on a length for the bowlers.

He tries to work Will Williams away to the leg side but there's no run. Maiden over.

  3. Career-best for Porter - with the batpublished at 12:53 BST 16 May

    Essex 90-4 v Leics 333

In his 156th first-class match, Jamie Porter drives Josh Hull for four to reach his highest score of 36 not out.

Charlie Allison collects a couple of runs in the next over as they post a 50 stand for Essex.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Ben Aitchisonpublished at 12:53 BST 16 May

    Derbyshire 218-5 v Middlesex 177

Aitchison brings up his half-century as he pulls Toby Roland-Jones to deep mid-wicket, where the ball beats the covering fielder to the rope.

Aitchison and Wayne Madsen are asserting now. The lead has quickly moved up to 41.

  5. 6 runs

Overton on the chargepublished at 12:51 BST 16 May

    Somerset 388-5 v Sussex

A short ball from Henry Crocombe is pulled into the ground and through deep mid wicket for a single.

Shot! A bit of width and slapped through cover point by Craig Overton for four runs.

He gets one more, working the ball leg side off the hip.

A full ball is driven to wide mid on by Tom Abell for one.

Short and swung over square leg towards the temporary seating area for six by Overton.

13 runs off the over. 12 needed in five overs for the fourth batting point. Apparently lunch will be taken at the slightly later time of 1.15 following that stoppage time earlier.

  6. Postpublished at 12:48 BST 16 May

    Notts 2-1 v Hampshire 214

Nottinghamshire are, after three successive maidens, off the mark at Southampton.

Ben Slater clips Brad Wheal down to fine leg, and he and Freddie McCann come back for a second.

Wheal, alongside bowling partner Kyle Abbott, has kept the Notts top order honest in the early stages of this innings. It has been a watchful and cautious beginning.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:47 BST 16 May

    Bess b Lawrence 42 (Yorkshire 458-8 v Surrey)

Dom Bess is bowled eight runs short of his half-century.

Bess attempts to reverse-sweep off-spinner Dan Lawrence but instead gets it horribly wrong, playing on to his middle-stump - a very, very soft way to give up your wicket.

Egg on the face of Bess - who has to depart for a well-played 42. Ben Cliff walks out to the crease for Yorkshire.

  8. Postpublished at 12:47 BST 16 May

    Kent 492-7 v Durham

Keith Dudgeon swings spinner Callum Parkinson away for two successive fours to bring up a 100 partnership with Ekansh Singh.

The South African progresses into the 40s.

  9. 200 runs

200 up for Derbyshirepublished at 12:46 BST 16 May

    Derbyshire 200-5 v Middlesex 177

Ben Aitchison drives Toby Roland-Jones again and, although the backward point fielder stops the momentum of the ball, they run through for a single to bring up Derbyshire's 200.

  10. Postpublished at 12:45 BST 16 May

    Somerset 375-5 v Sussex

The players are making their way back on to the field, raising the possibility of some actual cricket.

Henry Crocombe is getting ready to bowl and Tom Abell is on strike - 89 not out.

Craig Overton got his half century just before the delay and he's now on 51.

  11. Hannon Dalby's 'triumphant return'published at 12:45 BST 16 May

    Warwickshire v Glamorgan 360 - lunch

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Only 22 minutes of play were possible between drizzle that delayed the start and a heavier spell, but it was long enough for Ollie Hannon-Dalby to close the Glamorgan innings with his fourth and fifth wickets.

He hit the top of the off stump twice, one with a ball that Tom Norton tried to play but left him, and the other with a ball that Ryan Hadley should have played but didn’t.

Hannon-Dalby has made a triumphant return from his productive three-week loan with Worcestershire to start the season.

At that point, he seemed a long way down the newly-packed roster of seam bowlers at Edgbaston, but with Keith Barker and Michael Booth injured and Chris Woakes’ playing time being carefully managed so far, his skills are now required.

Five wickets here, warmly applauded by his many supporters, make it 12 in three innings – more than he managed in 10 first division games in a trying 2025 season.

Hannon-Dalby described it as a “new-ball pitch” – fertile with opportunities in the first few overs with the new ball, as the scorecard made clear.

Hadley raced off the field in the hope Glamorgan might get a chance to test that theory out before it rained, but they won’t now be out until at least 1.25.

  12. Postpublished at 12:44 BST 16 May

    Gloucs 154 v Northants 71-4

Still very overcast here with a strong possibility of rain to come - but we arep laying.

A deep backward square is in play as Saif Zaib ducks under a no ball bouncer.

The last ball of the over is pushed safely to backward point for no run.

  13. 450 up for Yorkshirepublished at 12:43 BST 16 May

    Yorkshire 451-7 v Surrey

Jhye Richardson gets off the mark with a boundary as Yorkshire move past 450.

Just a reminder, Yorkshire were put into bat after losing the toss yesterday morning.

Wonder if Surrey captain Rory Burns regrets that decision now.

  14. Postpublished at 12:42 BST 16 May

    Somerset 375-5 v Sussex

So are we going to play? Early lunch? Stay indoors?

Honestly I have no idea. It's not raining.

The umpires are on the top of the steps outside the Caddick Pavilion.

This is County Cricket Day by the way. More news as we get it.

  15. Postpublished at 12:41 BST 16 May

    Derbyshire 196-5 v Middlesex 177

Now with a lead, Derbyshire are quicky setting about extending it.

Ben Aitchison has just directed Toby Roland-Jones to the cover boundary, a delivery over-pitched and dismissed.

Aitchison now sits on 40, while the experienced Wayne Madsen at the other end is on 33.

  16. Postpublished at 12:40 BST 16 May

    Yorkshire 446-7 v Surrey

Dom Bess is driving again and misses the outside edge once more.

Bess then jabs off the back foot on the leg side for four two balls later.

Kept it down nicely, did Bess.

  17. Postpublished at 12:39 BST 16 May

    Somerset 375-5 v Sussex

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

"If conditions are OK for play, they should be playing."

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops play (again) in Tauntonpublished at 12:39 BST 16 May

    Somerset 375-5 v Sussex

The covers are coming back on and the players are walking off, much to the chagrin of spectators as it isn't actually raining now.

There was a smattering of drizzle but no more than that.

And now the covers are coming off again. You really couldn't make this up.

  19. Postpublished at 12:38 BST 16 May

    Essex 80-4 v Leics 333

Too much width from Josh Hull and Charlie Allison steers it down to third man where a despairing fielder is unable to prevent the boundary despite a last-ditch dive. Allison is 30 not out - and he and Jamie Porter have added 41 together so far.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:38 BST 16 May

    Hameed b Abbott 0 (Notts 0-1 v Hampshire 214)

Bowler-friendly conditions, indeed! An early breakthrough for Hampshire, before Nottinghamshire are even on the board themselves.

Kyle Abbott has knocked over Haseeb Hameed with a superb delivery, which just nipped away late on. Some start by Hants.

    Out comes Freddie McCann.
