Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are appropriately tearful in the Kiss and Cry Area as they wait for their scores.

But those tears are quickly replaced by elation - it's a season's best of 131.56 to give them an overall score of 217.74 and first place.

The Canadian pair will win at least a bronze medal. Italy's Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri face a nervous wait with two couples to come.

First up, it's reigning world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates from USA.

Piper Gilles' dress is Vincent van Gogh-inspired (Starry Night) as they're dancing to Vincent by Govardo. Her partner Paul Poirier is generously rhinestoned.

She's in tears as they finish their routine - it was beautiful.

The crowd was applauding before they'd finished their final spinning lifts.

So, it's still Italy's Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri (209.58 points) who lead with three couples to come. How magical it would be for them to get a medal on home soil.

Up next, it's Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier.

I've only spoken to Lilah Fear a couple of times, but a lovelier sportsperson you could not hope to meet. Bubbly, friendly, extremely talented.

    She will be back.

Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson are waiting with their team in the Kiss and Cry Area.

    The scores are in...

It's 118.85 for their free dance and 204.66 overall.

That's only enough for fourth place with three couples to come. It will still be a top-10 finish for the Brits but it could have been more.

I just wanted to see their faces at the end there. I think it's a realisation from Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, they knew that needed to be perfect.

The technical scores showed that they were well behind Italy.

They were in a great position to come out skating. They just needed to put down their very best effort, but you can't always produce that in the moment and under the pressure.

Did nerves cost Lilah and Lewis? There was one big mistake on the sequential twizzles near the start.

Lilah looks quite upset as she embraces her coaches. It was she who tripped.

Stunning costumes, big smiles on their faces when the bagpipes kicked in, and a stunning lift to finish...

But Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson look a little crestfallen as they salute the crowd.

And now, the moment we've all been waiting for.

The Disco Brits are now the Tartan Two!

Can Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson win Great Britain's first medal of the Games?

Thumbs up for yes. Thumbs down for no.

They weren't quite as on point as they were in the team event, where they helped their home team come home with the bronze, but they are always so elegant and classy on the ice.

Marco Fabbri was just a little tense from the off for me, we saw that when his foot went down on the twizzle sequence. Even in the circular step, he was only at a level two.

Italy's Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri score 125.30 for their free dance, taking them to 209.58 overall.

It's enough to take the lead with four couples to go!

Fabbri is 38, Guignard is 36. That may be the last time they perform for a home crowd in Italy.

If it was, what a beautiful way to bow out.

Balletic and beautiful - I enjoyed that from Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri.

There's a small error on a twizzle early in the routine from Fabbri but it was otherwise all green on the technical score box in the top left corner of the screen.

They're locked in an embrace as the arena applauds. The home crowd liked it!

We have already had a thoroughly entertaining evening of ice dance here. There has been some scintillating action but this is what it comes down to: this final five.

The big question is: who can stand up under this pressure and scrutiny after four years of preparation?

Before we get to Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, it's Italy's Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri, who nearly took the roof off the rink (and our office) with their Backstreet Boys-inspired rhythm dance on Monday.

The warm-ups are always nail-biting in figure skating, with five couples going through their routines at once.

While doing their highland twizzles, Fear and Gibson were almost clattered into by Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier.

    Careful, folks.

Great cheers for Lilah and Lewis as they skate into the rink.

Lilah in particular looked very serious, not cracking her usual big smile. Game faces on.

GB's Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, resplendent in tartan, are out on the ice for their warm-up.

Remember, they were fourth after the rhythm dance and less than a point behind third-placed Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (Canada).
