Lovely tennis from Jenson Brooksby. The American puts Jannik Sinner into the corner and then steps up to the net to volley a winner for advantage.

Brooksby stays at home this time and just doesn't get enough lift on his backhand.

Jannik Sinner passes up the first when his backhand fails to deliver.

And the second break point disappears after Sinner fires long.

Novak has been trying to find his rhythm from the back of the court all game. I think he's had moments where he's got a lot better. But, sometimes he's slightly slowing down a bit from the back of the court.

Novak Djokovic lost to Joao Fonseca at the French Open a few weeks ago having gone two sets up in that match - but it doesn't happen often.

The 39-year-old's record in five-set matches is fantastic.

He has a 10-2 win-loss record in five-set matches at Wimbledon, one of those losses being the 2023 final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic also holds the record for most five-set matches won in Grand Slam tournaments (38 wins, 10 losses).

  6. Break points Sinnerpublished at 15:24 BST 3 July

    Sinner 6-4 0-0 Brooksby*

Just as was the case in the opening set, it's Jenson Brooksby with the ball in hand to start the second.

Jannik Sinner keeps the momentum going to get to 30-0 and he earns a couple of break points at 40-15 when Brooksby's passing shot down the line lands in the tramlines.

  7. 'Sinner had ability to pile on the pressure'published at 15:22 BST 3 July

It's all about the scoreboard in this first set. When it got to the middle, Sinner had the ability to pile on the pressure.

There was just enough pressure in that 3-3 game for Jenson Brooksby to step off it a little bit and Sinner to go bam, thank you very much.

That is the aura from that kind of player. That is what you get from winning so many matches in a season.

Jenson Brooksby was reading a note as he sat down between sets.

It's hard to decipher - we could only see it from the back of the paper - but it appears to be some homework he's done on Jannik Sinner's serve.

Let's see if refreshing his memory with a quick read does the trick.

Novak Djokovic moves into a two-set lead on Centre Court, wrapping up the second set with an ace.

The Serb's serving stats all went up during the second set compared to the first, while he made just three unforced errors in the entire set.

Brooksby has a few tricks up his sleeve but has no real power, there's nothing big.

Seeing this match lineup, it's perfect for Sinner, Brooksby is almost like a perfect practice partner in match conditions.

Rinderknech plays very quietly, he hardly even lifts his head up in between points. He's a very quiet sort of character.

    *Sinner 5-4 Brooksby

We've certainly not seen the best of Jannik Sinner during his opening two matches of this tournament and he's yet to hit his stride in this match too.

But even a Sinner in third gear seems to be enough to get the job done.

Novak Djokovic is really starting to find his range now, especially on the return of serve. Today, he's been experimenting on his return of serve but now he's really found his timing. He's constantly getting it to the feet of Rinderknech, who is not ready to return it.

  15. 'Djokovic coming into these matches as the favourite'published at 15:17 BST 3 July

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC One

I don't think Novak Djokovic's dominance has eased up on the grass court. There are times, because his movement was so exceptional a few years ago, where perhaps it looks like he isn't quite as quick.

But I look at his ball-striking, his confidence and his fellow competitors - and he is coming into the vast majority of these matches as the favourite.

The only match in the whole draw where I think he would be the underdog is against Jannik Sinner - and I think that's potentially in the semi-finals.

Arthur Rinderknech mishits a backhand and must save two set points from 15-40 down on serve, but he finds some big first serves just when he requires them.

Despite the hold of serve, Novak Djokovic will serve for a two-set lead shortly.

Jenson Brooksby cuts a lovely slice just within the paint and it's asking too much even for the long legs of Jannik Sinner.

Sinner stretches to send a forehand down the line but it strays long.

Over the Italian to try and close out the set.

  18. Game and first set - Struffpublished at 15:15 BST 3 July

    Struff 7-6 (7-4) 0-0 Medvedev*

Eighth seed Daniil Medvedev will have to come from behind to beat Jan-Lennard Struff after losing the first-set tie-break 7-4.

Medvedev led 3-1 after breaking Struff in his second service game but later lost three games on the spin to put the first set back on serve.

He held to 30 in the 12th game to force a tie-break, which went with serve until 3-3 when Struff pulled away.

A 128mph serve...to the back of the head. That's got to hurt!

Thankfully, Marcus Willis is OK, but he and his doubles partner David Stevenson are out of the men's doubles.

The Brits lost 6-1 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 to sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.

    Sinner 5-3 Brooksby*

Jenson Brooksby doesn't appear to be allowing that break to play on his mind as he looks to get this set back on serve.

There's a pump of the fist as he retreats back to the baseline after getting to 30-0.

But Jannik Sinner isn't the kind of player to panic. The Italian sends over a wide serve and it's returned into the net. 30-30. Another couple of points secure the hold.

Brooksby will serve to stay in the set.
