    *Liu 2-4 Gauff

    Coco Gauff gets the hold.

It's definitely more competitive but Gauff retains the break advantage.

    Liu 2-3 Gauff*

Claire Liu does appear to have shaken off those early match nerves. Liu is causing some problems for Coco Gauff when she manages to get to the net.

There's huge applause and appreciation as Gauff comes to the net and volleys what should be a winner but Liu hooks it high to the baseline and a charging Gauff can't return.

For me, what's going to make the difference with Sabalenka is the consistency with the first serve.

The tricky part with Ostapenko is if you are going to give her a ball straight at her, hip high, she has no problem with that. Give her an off pace ball to the side so she has to move. You can't give her a strong one straight towards her, hip high, that's what she loves.

  4. Sabalenka saves break point to holdpublished at 17:47 BST

    Sabalenka 4-2 Ostapenko*

Jelena Ostapenko finds three excellent returns from 40-15 down to earn a break point in Aryna Sabalenka's latest service game.

Sabalenka rescues things with a big first serve down the T which Ostapenko only just gets a racquet to, and the world number one goes on to complete the hold.

  5. 'Sabalenka has too much for Ostapenko'published at 17:44 BST

    *Sabalenka 3-2 Ostapenko

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm feeling that Sabalenka has too much for Ostapenko. She likes to play with a lot of power and at the moment, she's just been able to have that edge over Ostapenko.

  6. 'You have to have the belief'published at 17:43 BST

    *Sabalenka 3-2 Ostapenko

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC Two

Number one in the world, multiple Grand Slam titles under your belt, you have to have the winning mentality. You have to have to have the belief in your game.

Three times semi-finalist - she has come close.

I believe Sabalenka can win this tournament, and I'm sure she does too.

  7. Liu holdspublished at 17:42 BST

    Liu 2-3 Gauff*

Claire Liu gets to advantage and seals the hold when Coco Gauff misjudges a bounce and cracks the ball off the rim of her racquet.

I would not want to miss this match for anything in the world.

    *Liu 1-3 Gauff

It's well defended by Claire Liu with a serve and volley.

We've not seen that side of her game previously in this match.

  10. Gauff targeting double breakpublished at 17:41 BST

    *Liu 1-3 Gauff

A second double fault of the match from Claire Liu hands Coco Gauff a 30-15 lead but she recovers with a big first serve next time out to level.

Liu makes a costly error into the net and Gauff is eyeing an early double break.

Great defence from Jelena Ostapenko means Aryna Sabalenka has to hit one more ball and the Belarusian slams a forehand into the net. Big chance for 15-40 and two break points, instead it's 30-30.

But Sabalenka will get one break point because Ostapenko nets a forehand... and the chance is taken with an outstanding backhand return winner.

This is already great viewing. Two of the sport's big hitters going for every shot with all their might.

  13. Gauff holdspublished at 17:37 BST

    *Liu 1-3 Gauff

Coco Gauff has settled in nicely. She cuts a lovely backhand slice and the spin proves too difficult for Claire Liu to deal with.

Gauff smashes a winner to the baseline before Liu sends long for the hold to love.

    Sabalenka 2-2 Ostapenko*

    Eugenie Bouchard
Former Canadian tennis player on BBC Two

When I played Sabalenka in 2018, before her big rise, in terms of intimidation by her results, that wasn't there yet. But, in terms of intimidation from her game, I was taken aback by the power she had.

With Ostapenko, I just thought I have to weather the storm, I have to wait for the errors to come. I knew I had to stay with her and weather the winners as I knew the errors were coming.

Sabalenka holds serve to level the set once more at 2-2.

  15. Liu holdspublished at 17:34 BST

    Liu 1-2 Gauff*

Much better from Claire Liu as she forces Coco Gauff behind the baseline and creeps up to the net to knock away a winner.

Even better from Liu when her drop shot has Gauff at full stretch and the qualifier is waiting at the net to volley into the corner.

    *Liu 0-2 Gauff

Claire Liu isn't used to playing on this sort of stage and the nerves show as she throws up a double fault to trail 30-0.

Liu recovers well to lead 40-30 but sends a forehand long for deuce.

  18. Ostapenko holdspublished at 17:32 BST

    *Sabalenka 1-2 Ostapenko

A clench of the fist and a yell of "come on" from Jelena Ostapenko as she completes a hold to 30.

A winner down the line, a successful serve-volley combo and an ace - not a bad way to save a break point and hold serve.

Sabalenka doesn't look entirely comfortable out there. She's already puffing out her cheeks and shrugging her shoulders after she loses a point. It's early days yet, Aryna.

See all women’s doubles are scheduled today apart from the Williams’s - would anyone else be given an extra day to recover and decide to play. Serena should do the decent thing and let another pairing have the opportunity
