    FT: Edinburgh 33-20 Toulon

Well, who would have called that?

Maybe we're overselling it - Toulon have only won two of 13 away games in 2025 and have now lost five on the bounce when on the road.

But this was still quite the shock. Next week, it's over to France to play Castres.

Can Edinburgh keep the momentum going? Join us to find out.

  2. Everett singles out Scott as fly-half impressespublished at 19:33 GMT 7 December 2025

    FT: Edinburgh 33-20 Toulon

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt tells Premier Sports: "It is pleasing when you work on something all week. We knew it was going to rain, it was predicted.

"Happy for Cammy Scott and the way he managed game. I thought he was brilliant tonight, you would never be able to tell it was only his third start.

"The pack did their job against a massive team from France so I'm really proud of the boys.

"You get worried at six minutes when you're 10-0 down on the scoreboard but the guys fought back and showed composure. The message behind the poles immediately was defensively, we have to stop the momentum off nine, and the guys got back to task."

  3. McConnell voted player of the matchpublished at 19:31 GMT 7 December 2025

    FT: Edinburgh 33-20 Toulon

Player of the match Liam McConnell tells Premier Sports: "It was awesome. We've looked forward to it since the start of the season, one of the top teams in the best team in the world, and they were coming to our home. We were buzzing.

"We thought that was an area [the scrum] where we could get at them. It was scrappy at times but when we got our chances, we took them.

"We just kicked a little more than we would, and the kicks were on the money every time. We tightened things up, didn't throw around, and pounced on their mistakes."

  4. 'A comprehensive victory against a top side'published at 19:27 GMT 7 December 2025

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland international on Premier Sports

There was so many good performances and good decisions made from the key decision-makers.

McConnell had a big autumn and he's continued that form into the Champions Cup.

There was a calmness underneath the chaos, when the hits were flying in, in the way Edinburgh approached that - especially after going behind early on.

The performance last week was poor and they didn't get their attack functioning. There was a lot of pressure on Sean Everett, and that was a comprehensive victory against a top side in European rugby.

  5. McConnell's reputation continues to growpublished at 19:25 GMT 7 December 2025

    Ian Madigan
Former Ireland fly-half on Premier Sports

It was a really smart performance from Edinburgh. They played the conditions, won the kicking battle.

It was always going to be won up front, there were a lot of really big performances in the pack. Ewan Ashman was really impressive, as was Magnus Bradbury.

But Liam McConnell really stood up both sides of the ball, he was an absolute nuisance when Toulon were in possession.

Dominant tackles, covered the backfield well, excellent on restarts received.

  6. Full-time Edinburgh 33-20 Toulonpublished at 19:23 GMT 7 December 2025

What a huge result this is. Edinburgh maintain their 100% record over Toulon, the European giants.

And in their first Champions Cup match in three years, they secure a bonus-point win over a side that have won this trophy three times.

One of the greatest nights their fans will have seen. Who expected that?

    Edinburgh 33-20 Toulon

That's a decent 50-22m from Toulon and they're now down in Edinburgh's backyard again.

But from the throw-in, there's a knock on from Dany Priso as he tries to gather from David Ribbans.

Since that opening 10 minutes, almost nothing has gone their way.

  8. try

Try EDINBURGH 33-20 Toulonpublished at 74 mins

    Boan Venter

That might be that! A bonus point try for the hosts and they go 13 points ahead with five minutes left.

They'd been knocking on the door, before Venter burrowed his way to the line.

Cammy Scott smacks a post from the conversion - hmm, he should have gotten that.

  9. Postpublished at 73 mins

    Edinburgh 28-20 Toulon

Edinburgh have a scrum, and they go blind down the left. Cammy Scott keeps it instead of trying to find Duhan van der Merwe, and from the next phase, Ben Vellacott's switch pass goes to deck.

But Edinburgh's kick recovery is good and Toulon have to run the ball into touch in their own 22m.

  10. Missed penaltypublished at 68 mins

    Edinburgh 28-20 Toulon

Curse of the live-texter. Cammy Scott pushes a penalty wide that he would expect to score.

Could Edinburgh have gone to the corner there instead?

  11. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Edinburgh 28-20 Toulon

David Ribbans is about to come back on, as Juan Igancio (Nacho to friends) Brex spills another pass.

And from the scrum, it's another penalty to Edinburgh! Their forward pack is bullying Toulon's right now.

If they get the next score, this will be huge.

The territorial control from Edinburgh has been excellent this second half.

Most of this half has been down in Toulon's third.

  13. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Edinburgh 28-20 Toulon

Cammy Scott has done it again. This time it is a 50-22m.

Ben Vellacott had lined up for the box kick but switched it up and Scott found the space and got the bounce.

He's having the game of his life out there.

  14. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Edinburgh 28-20 Toulon

What a kick that is from Cammy Scott. Just outside his own 22m, he launches a low banana kick to the edge of Toulon's 22m.

Not quite a 50-22m, but it's a brilliant reply and superbly judged in the conditions.

  15. try

Penalty Try EDINBURGH 28-20 Toulonpublished at 60 mins

Plenty of subs on now for both sides, by the way. Boan Venter is one of them, and he's straight into the scrum.

And Edinburgh roll over the top of their visitors! This is the best scrum in the Top 14 and it was marched backwards.

Referee Matthew Carley heads under the sticks with his arm in the air.

  16. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Edinburgh 21-20 Toulon

Well, hang on now! We're going to the TMO again!

With the ball on Toulon's line, albeit in their possession, has Liam McConnell dotted it down?

Baptiste Serin has rolled the ball back onto the white line, and McConnell has tried to ground it - but Serin has already done so, with both hands on the ball.

    It's just a scrum.

  17. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Edinburgh 21-20 Toulon

So Edinburgh have the man advantage, and they're immediately down in the 22m of Toulon. They win another penalty, and Cammy Scott kicks to the corner.

But they've spilled the throw! The conditions are horrendous, but that's a chance missed.

Cries of "he could've killed him!" from the crowd here.

More good play from Liam McConnell, he's such a frustrating player to play against.

  19. Sin-bin David Ribbans (Toulon)published at 57 mins

    Edinburgh 21-20 Toulon

Matthew Carley is over to the screen and we're going to the TMO.

The crowd weren't happy on the far side with David Ribbans. What's he done?

Well, he's thrown a big arm at the face of Liam McConnell after the youngster tried to clear him out. It's yelllaaa card.

    A total headloss.

  20. Penalty Edinburgh 21-20 TOULONpublished at 55 mins

Edinburgh have wiped out that penalty immediately through daft play in their own 22m.

Marshall Sykes goes down before the contact and Paul Hill lies on top of him. All that work for naught as Mateo Garcia kicks from the tee.

    Brainless.
