    Johnson -4 (15)

Here's Dustin Johnson's birdie putt on 15. Up the hill... has it got enough? No, runs out of steam and dribbles away. It's a par for the world number eight who remains one behind leader Im Sung-jae.

  2. Postpublished at 23:29 BST 7 April 2022

    Im -5 (16)

Im wallops a drive up the 17th fairway. He only has 154 yards left, but it's pushed and he'll face a testing two-putt to secure his par.

    McIlroy -1, Koepka E, Fitzpatrick -1 (12)

McIlroy punches his second out of the pine straw and up to 80 yards from the pin.

Prime position, but it's a poor effort from there, and the ball slips off the back of the green.

He looks perplexed, but he simply carried that too far.

  4. Postpublished at 23:24 BST 7 April 2022

    Johnson -4 (14)

Dustin Johnson just never looked confident with his birdie putt on 14, so it was no surprise to see it slide by the hole.

He remains on four under though and he's found the green in three on 15 to give himself a putt for birdie.

  5. Conners in contentionpublished at 23:18 BST 7 April 2022

    Conners -2 (F)

Canadian Corey Conners makes a superb up-and-down on 18 to sign for a 70 and is well in contention.

He may not be a household name but he's had a top 10 finish in his past two visits to Augusta and has finished 11th and third in greens in regulation during those tournaments to prove he is a fantastic iron player.

  6. Bogey finish for Westwoodpublished at 23:17 BST 7 April 2022

    Westwood E (F)

A disappointing bogey at the last for Lee Westwood sees him finish on level par for his opening round.

That's by no means a disaster but it always leaves a sour taste in the mouth when you drop shots at the last.

  7. 'Would be lovely to see McIlroy in contention'published at 23:16 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1 (12)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team

Lovely approach shot from Rory on the 12th - we know what he's like and how he feeds off the energy of the crowd. He's got these chances coming in.

It would be lovely to see McIlroy in contention.

  8. Postpublished at 23:15 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1, Fitzpatrick -1, Koepka E (12)

On the 13th tee, Rory McIlroy lets out a heavy sigh. Not good news. But not as anguished as Spieth's cry.

The Northern Irishman has pushed his tee-shot right and looks to be getting acquainted with the pine straws in that area of Augusta.

  9. Spieth in the souppublished at 23:13 BST 7 April 2022

    Spieth +2, Schauffele +1, Hovland E (12)

Jordan Spieth is really struggling now and the yell of disappointment straight after his iron shot tells you something is wrong.

And it is, as his ball trickles into the creek in front of the 13th green.

  10. Postpublished at 23:10 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1, Fitzpatrick -1, Koepka E (12)

Steady as she goes. Rory McIlroy goes for the heart of the 12th green and settles for his two putts.

England's Matt Fitzpatrick goes a little deeper with his tee shot but also walks off with his par.

Can Brooks Koepka make it a full house? No! He pushes his par putt right from about seven feet, instantly pointing out his right arm when he realises what he has done.

The American goes back to level pegging.

  11. Postpublished at 23:06 BST 7 April 2022

    Westwood -1 (17)

That tee shot on 18 really looks brutal - it's like threading the eye of a needle with patrons flanking both sides and huge trees making the gap seem so narrow.

Lee Westwood is usually excellent with the big dog but even he can't get it right as he slices his drive into the trees down the right.

  12. 'Brilliant golf'published at 23:04 BST 7 April 2022

    Im -5 (15)

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Im Sung-jae with a chance to take the lead and settles himself over a 10-footer - on its way and it finds the middle of the hole.

    Brilliant golf.

  13. Im hits the frontpublished at 23:02 BST 7 April 2022

    Im -5 (15)

Im Sung-jae is now the outright leader at the Masters as he makes a birdie on the 15th to get to five under.

Im was second behind Dustin Johnson in the November 2020 Masters and these softer conditions are playing to his strengths again.

  14. 'McIlroy has given it plenty'published at 22:58 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1 (11)

    John Murray
BBC Golf Correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

McIlroy with the best opportunity, but from distance.

He sends it on its way, he's given it plenty and we do have a birdie from McIlroy to go into the red figures!

  15. McIlroy birdies 11published at 22:57 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1, Koepka -1, Fitzpatrick -1 (11)

    That's more like it!

McIlroy sank a 17-footer for par on the 10th and he's only gone and done it again at the 11th, but this time it's for a birdie - and they're hard to come by at that hole.

The Northern Irishman is back in the red, sitting alongside his two playing partners as Koepka drops back to one under after missing a tiddler!

    Next up, the treacherous 12th...

  16. Almost a hole-in-one for Hovlandpublished at 22:56 BST 7 April 2022

    Spieth +2, Schauffele +1, Hovland E (12)

You have to be some player to get away with wearing trousers like Viktor Hovland's, and luckily Viktor Hovland is some player - as he shows by almost grabbing an ace at the 12th.

  17. 'Brilliant from Westwood'published at 22:53 BST 7 April 2022

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Lee Westwood has hit a magnificentt tee shot, and could get himself within three shots of the lead, as it stands.

He converts the tee shot, and that is brilliant stuff and he's one under par.

  18. MacIntyre fires opening 73published at 22:52 BST 7 April 2022

    MacIntyre +1 (F)

Robert MacIntyre had done so well to get back to level par, picking up birdies at the 15th and 16th, but he - like so many before him - falls foul at the 18th.

Sitting pretty in the 18th fairway, he finds the greenside bunker and splashes out to 15 feet, but his par putt never threatens the hole.

It's a one-over 73. He's certainly not shot his way out of it, but he'll be a tad disappointed with that finish.

  19. Postpublished at 22:51 BST 7 April 2022

    Rose +4 (17)

It's another shot gone for Justin Rose sadly, and he's playing his way out of contention already with a poor first round.

  20. 'Water costs Hovland'published at 22:48 BST 7 April 2022

    Hovland +1 (11)

    John Murray
BBC Golf Correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

Victor Hovland - quite a tester for him and it misses, it rolls by and being in the water costs him there - double-bogey, and he goes from one under to one over.
