Now the 2020 winner Dustin Johnson, says that Tiger Woods' return may take the pressure off some of the players that would normal take top billing.

"Anytime he tees it up, especially after his injuries, he's going to take a lot of attention, which is okay with me," the former world number one said.

"I always like sliding in a little under the radar."

Disregard the time on his image, all the tee times have been pushed back by 30 minutes so I presume that was just an oversight.

The thunderstorms might have stopped the fun early on Wednesday, but it didn't stop 72-year-old Tom Watson - the Masters champion in 1977 and 1981 - enjoying the time he did get out on the course.

Our man Ken Brown knows the Augusta terrain better than most.

So it perhaps unsurprising he found this beauty of a spot among the azaleas to snap Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas during practice.

Adam Scott won the 2013 Masters in dramatic fashion, beating Angel Cabrera in a play-off, with a birdie at the par-four 10th as darkness fell.

After a final-round 69, Scott was tied with Cabrera on nine under par.

  10. Can Matsuyama emulate Woods, Faldo and Nicklaus?published at 14:25 BST 7 April 2022

    Hideki MatsuyamaImage source, Getty Images

Hideki Matsuyama became the first Japanese man to win a major championship with his one-shot victory at last year's Masters but can he successfully defend his title?

The 30-year-old has already won twice this season but had to withdraw from the recent Valero Texas Open through injury because of a problem with his neck.

He also had a problem with his back at the Players Championship in March.

Does that make it sound as though the odds are stacked against a repeat of 2021? If so you may as well read on just to throw the 100s and thousands on top...

No player has won the Masters in consecutive years since Tiger Woods in 2001-02 and prior to that only Sir Nick Faldo (1989-90) and the great Jack Nicklaus (1965-66) have achieved that feat.

  13. Double bogey gives Weir worst possible startpublished at 14:17 BST 7 April 2022

    Weir +2 (2)

There are five groups out on the course at present.

Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington is among the players under way as is former Masters champ Jose Maria Olazabal, who has dropped a shot on the second after a birdie start.

However, Canada's Mike Weir, who won here in 2003, has had the start nobody would envy. A double on the first, which included a horrible missed putt from two feet.

Augusta is full of much-loved traditions.

One of the most revered took place yesterday, when players were joined by their partners and children in the annual par-three contest.

Unfortunately, the fun was stopped when the threat of an incoming thunderstorm forced play to be called off for the day.

But there was still time for some highlights.

Rory McIlroy, who had daughter Poppy for company for the first time, chipped in for birdie on the first hole moments before players and spectators were told to leave the grounds.

American Jason Kokrak made the only hole-in-one of the day on the fourth.

  16. Magical Masters moments: 'It looked good, I was just frozen watching it'published at 14:02 BST 7 April 2022

Larry Mize remains the only golfer born in Augusta, Georgia, to win the Masters - and he did it in some style in 1987.

Mize finished on three under par after 72 holes, and was in a play-off with Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros, who were both major champions.

After Ballesteros was eliminated at the first play-off hole, Mize produced one of the most iconic shots ever seen at the Masters, chipping in at the 11th hole to claim the Green Jacket. Here he describes his memories of the day when the local boy became the national hero.

  19. A 'champion' pre-Masters feedpublished at 13:57 BST 7 April 2022

Where else in the world can you get a grouping of golf's greatest ever players having a chinwag over a sumptuous meal?

Tuesday night in Masters week is Champions Dinner night.

Each year sees the defending champion carefully curate the menu, with Hideki Matsuyama providing a traditional Japanese meal after becoming the first player from the nation to win a major men's golf title last year.

The promise of miso black cod had Dustin Johnson almost salivating during his news conference on Tuesday, while Jordan Spieth joked he had offended his steak-loving fellow Texans by claiming Wagyu beef was the best in the world.
