    McIlroy -2, Johnson -8, Cantlay -7 (16*)

Johnson lays up after finding a fairway bunker. He really could do with picking up a shot on this par five eighth.

  2. Willett... Will he?published at 19:55 GMT 13 November 2020

    Iain Carter
    Radio 5 live commentator

Today was Danny Willett's best round at Augusta and the first time he's made the cut since winning the Green Jacket.

  4. 'My driver cracked on 17'published at 19:54 GMT 13 November 2020

    Willett -7 (F)

Here's Danny Willett, who sits at seven under par: "I felt pretty good coming into the week, you get nice memories, nice vibes. It's very different to what we're used to.

"My driver cracked on the 17th so we played the round with a three wood - might stay that way for the rest of the week!

"Real good iron play, would have gained a lot of shots into the green. nice to finish with a birdie on nine as I think the scoring will continue to be good as the day goes on.

"Scores will improve but we're in there in a good position. It's been four years since I saw my name on that leaderboard so it was nice when it popped up.

"It's still surreal, still an amazing place to come to. An incredibly special place."

  5. Par save for Woodspublished at 19:50 GMT 13 November 2020

    Woods -4 (1)

Tiger Woods hits an awful wedge from the middle of the first fairway. Even I would be unhappy with that. It's long and right.

He makes a great third shot though, chipping it to four feet and rolls in the par putt.

  6. Mickelson still in the runningpublished at 19:50 GMT 13 November 2020

    Mickelson -5 (F*)

Lefty is in the clubhouse with a two under 70 and on a slightly flat note after birdies on five and six.

But if he gets on a roll you would not put it past him to challenge for a fourth green jacket.

  7. Casey up and runningpublished at 19:49 GMT 13 November 2020

    Reed -3, Casey -7, Finau -3 (1)

England's Paul Casey is off an running a solid par at the first, matched by American Tony Finau.

However, Patrick Reed makes a bogey and drops one back.

  8. Smith joins Ancer at the top of the leaderboardpublished at 19:46 GMT 13 November 2020

    Smith -9 (F)

Moments later, Aussie Smith, whose putting has been superb today, holes yet another birdie to finish with a 68 fr the 27-year-old, who was tied fifth two years ago.

    An eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie finish today.

  9. Postpublished at 19:45 GMT 13 November 2020

    Rahm -3, DeChambeau -2, Oosthuizen -4 (1)

Pretty low key start for this celebrated trio.

Bryson DeChambeau leaves himself with too much to do on the dance floor and picks up a par. If anything Oosthuizen will probably feel the happiest after a nice up and down to save par.

  10. Ancer grabs clubhouse leadpublished at 19:41 GMT 13 November 2020

    Ancer -9 (F)

Debutant Abraham Ancer not only gets out of a tricky lie on the left but manages to two putt for par, finish with a five-under 67 and the current outright lead.

Will the Mexican remain top come Saturday?

  11. 'Crowd goes ballistic'published at 19:41 GMT 13 November 2020

  12. Postpublished at 19:39 GMT 13 November 2020

    Mickelson -5 (17*)

Nothing doing for Lefty on eight after finding the sand off the tee.

What can he do on his final hole? He looks in good shape and whips a beautiful iron shot in towards the flag before it trickles off the top shelf of the green.

    Birdie putt on its way....

  13. Fleetwood finishing fastpublished at 19:35 GMT 13 November 2020

    Fleetwood -7 (F)

Just like Danny Willett moments before, Tommy Fleetwood is finishing on a big high. He too finds the right part of the 18th green to leave a simple birdie putt and he too will be signing for a six-under 66.

    A terrific round of golf.

  14. Smith steams onpublished at 19:32 GMT 13 November 2020

    Smith -8 (17)

    Cameron SmithImage source, Getty Images

The Cameron Smith birdie train is going at full steam. I can almost see the smoke from here.

After tapping in at 16, the Australian picks up another at 17. That's five birdies and an eagle.

  15. Woods under waypublished at 19:32 GMT 13 November 2020

    Woods -4

Tiger Woods is under way. The five-time winner starts round two on four under par. He was swinging freely on Thursday and you suspect the warm conditions in Augusta will be helpful to his back.

A smooth drive down the first and he's off to a great start.

  16. Langer bites backpublished at 19:28 GMT 13 November 2020

    Langer -3 (15)

Bernhard Langer may have dropped back a touch but if anyone thought that the veteran German might not make the weekend, well, a birdie on 15 suggests he is not quite done yet.

The 63-year-old has only missed the cut twice here in 36 previous appearances.

  17. Postpublished at 19:28 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy -2, Johnson -8, Cantlay -7 (15*)

Cantlay misses his birdie putt by fractions - so, so close.

The American and his compatriot make par, as does McIlroy.

They head to the seventh - three to go.

  18. Big finish for Willettpublished at 19:26 GMT 13 November 2020

    Willett -7 (F), Fowler -4 (F)

Danny Willett has given himself a birdie chance on the 18th, his last hole of the day. A lovely iron to the back of the green and the top shelf where the flag is located.

    About six feet left.

His playing partner is Rickie Fowler. We've not seen much of the American today but he's hit a doozy into the green, right on the money. He walks onto the green and taps in from six inches to finish on four under.

Can Danny follow him in? Boom. Great finish - a six-under 66.

  19. It's harder to chip this yearpublished at 19:25 GMT 13 November 2020

    Jamie Donaldson
Ryder Cup 2014 winner for BBC Radio 5 live

It's harder to chip and get spin around the greens this time because the grass hasn't been cut as short.

  20. Ancer takes outright leadpublished at 19:25 GMT 13 November 2020

    Ancer -9 (17*)

There's an unlikely leader at Augusta, and he goes by the name of Abraham Ancer.

The debutant is now clear at the top at nine under after trickling in a birdie at the par-five eighth, playing as his 17th, and has one to play before setting the likely clubhouse lead.
