  1. Good par save for Rosepublished at 15:01 GMT 13 November 2020

    Rose -5 (17)

The Augusta National greens are starting to bite back a little. Yesterday, it was like throwing darts, they were so sticky. But today, there's a bit more run on them.

Justin Rose is a fraction short with his second shot into 17 and his ball wanders back off the front edge. He takes two more from there to remain five under. Here's a birdie he rolled in yesterday....

  2. Johnson in tie for the leadpublished at 14:59 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -7, Cantlay -2 (F)

World number one Dustin Johnson finishes with a 65 after maintaining a steady grip to make his birdie putt. He's back out at 15:25 GMT.

    Game on.

  3. Postpublished at 14:57 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -6, Cantlay -2 (17*)

McIlroy's chip almost drops in after banging the pin - but he's had no luck today. He finishes with par and will need to produce something exceptional during round two which begins at 15:25 GMT.

  4. Postpublished at 14:54 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -6, Cantlay -2 (17*)

Johnson has a great chance to finish his round with a birdie to move into the joint lead after his approach spins back to six feet of the hole.

McIlroy's shot to the green also spins, but back off beyond the fringe.

    Oh Rory!

  5. Frittelli misses birdie putt on lastpublished at 14:52 GMT 13 November 2020

    Frittelli -7 (F)

Dylan Frittelli has popped his approach at nine, his final hole, to about 10 feet. A birdie chance that would hand him the lead... it stops agonisingly short! Fantastic round for the South African, he heads in with the joint lead, alongside Paul Casey. Now for a quick snack before heading out for his second round.

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -6, Cantlay -2 (17*)

Johnson's final tee-shot of the round lands safely on the fairway.

The world number one is side-by-side with world number three Justin Thomas on six under.

It could be a battle royale from moving day onwards.

  7. Langer facing quick turnaroundpublished at 14:47 GMT 13 November 2020

    Langer -4 (F)

Bernhard Langer is back in the clubhouse. He'll just about have time to check through his scorecard, sign it, nip to the loo, and then get back out there for his 15:14 GMT tee time in round two!

He's finished off with a par at the ninth. He found a greenside bunker with his second shot but flipped a delightful shot out that landed 20 feet short of the hole and then ran down and across a slope to tap-in range.

  8. Thomas one off the lead; Koepka back in the huntpublished at 14:45 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -6, Koepka -2 (F)

Thomas doesn't but Koepka does - what a finish from the four-time major winner. He's back in the frame.

They go again at 15:14 GMT.

  9. Postpublished at 14:41 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -6, Koepka -1 (17*)

Both Thomas and Koepka are in prime position to make birdies at the last.

    Should Thomas make his then...

  10. Opportunity missedpublished at 14:40 GMT 13 November 2020

    -5 Rose (16)

Justin Rose is on the 16th tee, lining up his shot in familiar fashion, pointing his club in the direction he wants to hit the ball before settling over it.

A thwack and a look and JR doesn't look particularly happy with that. I'm not sure why. The ball slams into the green pin-high, about 10 feet to the left. I'd humbly suggest 99.99% of golfers would be happy with that.

I know of a Northern Irishman and two Englishmen who would take that (after watching their balls go in the pond - step forward Rory, Tyrrell and Matt).

Can Rose putt for dough? Two putts needed. Par.

  11. Postpublished at 14:38 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -6, Cantlay -2 (16*)

McIlroy's uphill putt on the 17th green is woefully short. More facial expressions of frustration.

Johnson's misses with his birdie putt, but it's been a decent back nine for the world number one.

The South African can't trickle it in. Comes up just right and Dylan Frittelli heads to his final hole of the opening round at seven under par, in the joint lead.

  14. Postpublished at 14:35 GMT 13 November 2020

    Frittelli -7 (16*)

Long, long eagle putt from Dylan Frittelli at the par-five eight and he rolls it some way beyond the pin, still a bit of work to do, around 16 feet, if he's to drown the birdie that takes him into the outright lead.

    Thomas -6, Koepka -1 (17*)

What a superb chip from off the 17th green from Justin Thomas. He has a foot or so for par. The 2017 US PGA champ scratches his face, which might acknowledge some level of satisfaction.

Koepka's mini-run of picking up shots ends as his birdie putt drifts left.

    Pars for both.

    Smith -5 (F*)

Cameron Smith finishes with a birdie to cap off a cracking run since the turn. The 27-year-old Australian opened with a bogey at 10 but made six birdies - five on them on the front nine, to finish at five under par. He's out again in about half an hour.

  18. Langer sticking aroundpublished at 14:26 GMT 13 November 2020

    Langer -4 (17*)

    Bernhard LangerImage source, Reuters

Bernhard Langer tees off in his second round in less than one hour. Here he is on the par-five eighth, the 17th hole of his first round.

His second up the hill plugs in the fairway, indicating how soft it still is out there.

It's just like how he played the par-five second hole. His third is another delightful chip to about eight feet. Can he hole the birdie putt? Yes, He Can.

I wonder what he'll do between rounds? A bit more breakfast, perhaps?

  19. McIlroy salvages a bogey; Johnson one off leadpublished at 14:26 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +3, Johnson -6, Cantlay -2 (16*)

A great save of sorts from McIlroy who makes his bogey putt. One of his best putts of the round, ironically.

DJ's great tee shot set him up for a birdie, which he makes.

The world number one is making his move.

  20. The many sides of Mickelson's game in one holepublished at 14:23 GMT 13 November 2020

    Mickelson -3 (F)

Extraordinary from Phil Mickelson at the 18th.

A (rare) perfect tee shot down the middle of the fairway. He then tugs his second into a greenside bunker, short-siding himself. He looks completely befuddled by that.

He has a good look at his options and opts to flick out in the opposite direction to the hole, looking to use the contours of the green. He lands it perfectly on top of the ridge and the ball feeds back down to four feet.

Par putt? Missed. Decent round but he looks crestfallen with that finish.
