  1. Eagle for Rahm, birdie for DeChambeaupublished at 18:26 GMT 12 November 2020

    DeChambeau -1, Rahm -3, Oosthuizen -4 (11*)

Cracking round for Louis Oosthuizen so far. He's playing very good golf, although another birdie chance at two - his 11th - stays up.

Bryson DeChambeau has an eagle putt, it lacks a bit of zip and puts the brakes on a foot or so short. Birdie for the US Open champion though, and he's into the red for the first time today.

But who's this?! Jon Rahm, after a superb approach that settled down four feet from the cup, rolls in for an eagle that propels him to three under par. Brilliant!

    Woods -3, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (9*)

Woods pushes the ball past the pin - if it was that tad bit hotter the putt might have raced past on a pacier surface. Par for Woods.

Ogletree stays at three over after missing a birdie chance. The US Amateur champion has steadied the ship a bit after a double at the 12th.

    We turn.

    Westwood -5 (10)

What's this Lee Westwood in a bit of bother on 10?

The Englishman's second goes astray on this long downhill par four leaving him in the slightly longer stuff to the left of the green.

But he produces a great scrambling recovery to get up and down and save par.

  4. Postpublished at 18:18 GMT 12 November 2020

    DeChambeau E, Rahm -1, Oosthuizen -4 (10*)

Some 352 yards off the tee from Bryson DeChambeau on the par-five second, but he's a little left of the fairway and the hole snakes that way round the bend, giving him an awkward approach. Jon Rahm finds a similar spot, slightly more central in the fairway.

DeChambeau will have to hook his round the pines to find the pin that's way left on the green today, and makes a pretty good job of it - Bend It Like Bryson.

  5. Postpublished at 18:17 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -3, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (8*)

The reigning champion could have attacked the green a little more. Instead his ball is on the left edge - a bit of work to do to reach a par-able putt on the 18th.

  6. Postpublished at 18:13 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -3, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (8*)

Woods produces a similar tee shot on the 18th to the one he produced in the final round last year en route to victory. Cautious, safe, solid.

  7. Eagle for Simpsonpublished at 18:12 GMT 12 November 2020

    Simpson -5 (11*)

That's different gravy from Webb Simpson on the second who takes a wood from the middle of the fairway and zips his ball into around seven feet from the pin.

The 2012 US Open winner takes full advantage of that tickling his putt in for eagle and a share of the lead.

  8. Birdie for Louis...published at 18:09 GMT 12 November 2020

Louis Oosthuizen is really on a roll here. Three birdies on the trot through the turn and he's out to four under par, just one off the leaders.

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm are in for pars at the first, their 10th.

No need to sit up yet. Woods' putt pulls up a few inches short.

A safe par. He goes again.

  11. Postpublished at 18:02 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -3, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (7*)

Woods is currently finding it difficult to miss any greens at the moment. Another approach lands plum and safe. He has a safe par in sight on Nandina aka the 17th - it could be better.

One more birdie here and we better sit up.

  12. Know your history?published at 18:01 GMT 12 November 2020

In the previous 83 years of its existence, only two Masters have not started in April. The first Masters was held 22-25 March in 1934. From 1935-38, the tournament was scheduled for the first week in April, but the 1939 Masters broke tradition and started on 30 March. From 1940, the tournament has been played exclusively in April.

The Masters resumed after a three-year break because of World War II and since then no round has ever been played later than 15 April. The Masters had finished on the second Sunday each April since 1985. The formula goes back even further, but for some reason the 1979 and 1984 Masters ended on 15 April, the third Sunday of the month.

  14. Another birdie for Westwoodpublished at 17:56 GMT 12 November 2020

    Westwood -5 (9)

What that a wedge or a nine iron? Who cares. Lee Westwood's swing is as smooth as silk at the moment as he drops that one into a few feet from 140-150 yards.

The putt plops right into the middle of the cup. The Englishman is on fire. That's five birdies on the front nine.

Just needs to do the same again on the back nine now to beat the course record of 63, which is shared by Nick Price (1986) and Greg Norman (1996).

  15. Woods' third birdiepublished at 17:56 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -3, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (7*)

An easy tap-in for the reigning champion. Two off the lead.

    Birdie-par-birdie-birdie. No dropped shots.

Plenty of players picking up shots though at the moment. Let's not get too excited.

  16. Birdies for Rahm & Oosthuizenpublished at 17:53 GMT 12 November 2020

    DeChambeau E, Rahm -1, Oosthuizen -3 (9*)

Birdie putt from just inside the fringes for Bryson DeChambeau at 18, how he'd love to be in this position for the win on Sunday... he'll need to improve if that's the case.

The American nestles his attempt close, should tap in for par. John Rahm, though, is slowly creeping his way back up the leaderboard after two early bogeys.

The Spaniard slides in for birdie and hits the turn at one under.

But the man really flying in this trio is Louis Oosthuizen. His approach is superb, a putter's length from the pin, and the South African tapes in to move to three under par.

  17. Woods on firepublished at 17:51 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -2, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (6*)

Woods is right up to kissing distance of the hole on Redbud aka the 16th.

The charge is on. The five-time champion looks so, so relaxed so far.

  19. Woods with second birdiepublished at 17:46 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -2, Lowry +2, Ogletree +3 (6*)

Will the eagle land for Andy Ogletree?

Nope, but the birdie will do nicely.

Woods with birdie putt - eight feet - well, yes of course.

  20. Birdie for Westwoodpublished at 17:40 GMT 12 November 2020

    Westwood -4 (8)

Still a long way to go of course but Lee Westwood is flying at the moment.

And his putter looks like it is even running hot. A deft little chip leaves him with an eight-footer on eight and he rolls it in with a minimum of fuss.

Was never in doubt. At present he is very much looking like the player who was world number one for 22 weeks or so back in 2010.
