That DJ second shot actually came up between two sets of trees, on the edge of the fairway, giving the world number one a decent route into the flag. He flings a wedge towards the pin and watches it spin back some.

Earlier Alistair Bruce-Ball set the following question…

Since 1990, there have been 31 runners-up at Augusta. Name them.

And here are some more of your answers…

Guy Fenney: Kenny Perry, and Tim Clark is one of the South Africans.

William Robinson: Duvel, Campbell and Couples.

Steve Hawdon: Len Mattiace in 2003. Lost to Mike Weir in playoff.

  3. Fowler makes bright startpublished at 22:00 GMT 12 November 2020

    Fowler -3 (10)

You feel that one year Rickie Fowler will somehow get over the line in a major. The 31-year-old has had five top-12 finishes at Augusta, including a runner-up spot.

The American has had a glorious front nine with three birdies and no bogeys. He's currently on the 10th green, studying a six-footer for another birdie - it's not too dissimilar to the putt Bryson DeChambeau was looking at a fair few hours ago now.

Can he get do what Bryson failed to? No! It was on line all the way down the slope but somehow put the brakes on three inches short.

He still won't enjoy darkness interrupting this round.

Spot of bother for Dustin Johnson, having managed to land his tee shot on the peninsula that springs from the huge bunker down the side of the eighth fairway, he flails an approach right towards the pines. Not impressed.

    Scott -3, Morikawa E, Hatton -1 (8)

Great Shot. Take a bow Adam Scott. The Australian didn't look in great shape on the eighth after finding the huge fairway bunker but then knocks a couple of good retrieval shots.

A laser-like approach with his third sees him collect an improbable birdie.

Hatton takes a par to stay at one under after a birdie on the last while Collin Morikawa has gone bogey, birdie, bogey and par in his last four holes.

A rollercoaster round for the American.

    Frittelli -3 (6*)

Dylan Frittelli is knocking on the door. The South African started his round on the 10th tee and moved to one over par with a bogey at 12, but has clawed four shots back in his past three holes. He eagled the par-five 13th, before making birdies at 14 and 15.

    Ding, ding.

When the hooter goes for bad light, you've got the choice to mark your ball or finish the hole. Sometimes you'll have say a five-foot putt and think oh I can get that and then you miss it and you're raging all night and thinking why didn't I wait, as they will cut the greens in the morning and it will be nice and bright.

But these guys know the script. As soon as it starts going dark one of them will put their hand up and say I'm done and then that will be it.

  9. A birdie for Rosepublished at 21:49 GMT 12 November 2020

    Rose -2 (6)

England's Justin Rose has five top-10 finishes at the Masters and has twice finished runner-up, in 2015 and 2017.

He's off to a decent start again this year with three birdies in his opening six holes. Here's the one on the fifth...

  11. McIlroy misses birdie puttpublished at 21:45 GMT 12 November 2020

    Johnson -2, Cantlay -1, McIlroy +1 (7)

Dustin Johnson has just leaked his past two putts right. Birdie chances that didn't drop... he's still thinking about the Masters sandwiches. The world number one said earlier this week they were his favourite part of the event.

Pimento cheese in particular? Nope, just all of them...

Rory McIlroy is still looking to claw back that bogey from the first. Will seven be the place to do it? He's given himself a four-foot birdie putt after a lovely approach, rolls it pin-bound but it kisses the cup and stays up. Oh, Rors!

  12. Rose movin' on uppublished at 21:44 GMT 12 November 2020

    -2 Rose (6)

After bogeying the first hole, Justin Rose has responded with birdies on the second and fifth holes to get back into the red. And he's just hit a lovely tee shot into the green on the downhill par-three sixth. Pin high, 15 feet to the right...

Can he drain it. YES. HE. CAN. JR playing himself into contention.

  13. Bogey for Thomaspublished at 21:42 GMT 12 November 2020

    Thomas -3, Fitzpatrick E, Koepka +1 (7)

First dropped shot of the day for Justin Thomas. I'll be honest I kind of fancied him to get out of that jam, well sand, with his par intact.

Played a decent enough shot with the wedge but it just trickled on a foot or two past where he'd have liked it to stop. Everyone has seen those tricky six-feet putts missed.

Brooks Koepka also takes a bogey, he's not really got into his stride at all yet.

  14. Langer rolls back the yearspublished at 21:37 GMT 12 November 2020

    Langer -1 (6*)

What's this? Two-time champ Bernhard Langer is rolling back the years on 15.

A beautiful approach sees the stylish 63-year-old drop in his second birdie putt of the day to move back to one under.

Since he made his Masters debut in 1982, the German has missed the cut just twice here and finished in the top 10 on nine occasions.

  15. Postpublished at 21:33 GMT 12 November 2020

    Thomas -4, Fitzpatrick E, Koepka E (6)

Don't you just love that swooshing sound you get when a driver connects to a ball on the tee....

Justin Thomas has just indulged me again on seven before plopping his second into one of the two bunkers at the back of the hole.

A little tester coming up for him and Brooks Koepka who lands his approach short.

Matt Fitzpatrick looks in decent shape for a par.

  16. A bogey-free Tigerpublished at 21:30 GMT 12 November 2020

    Woods -4 (F)

Tiger Woods had his first bogey-free opening round at Augusta today. Here's one of his four birdies.

  17. Wallace makes solid startpublished at 21:28 GMT 12 November 2020

    Wallace -3 (F)

England's Matt Wallace has just knocked in a par putt on the 18th to finish his first round.

He's barely registered on the tele tonight but he's in with a three-under 69.

He was one over after 10 holes but went birdie, birdie, eagle from the 13th to shoot up the leaderboard.

  18. Postpublished at 21:28 GMT 12 November 2020

    Johnson -2, Cantlay -1, McIlroy +1 (6)

DJ comes at his birdie putt at six from the fringes, not sure if he noticed a bit of mud underneath his ball there. He leaves it just right, and is down for par. As is Rory McIlroy. Patrick Cantlay follows suit.

  19. Postpublished at 21:25 GMT 12 November 2020

    Hatton E (6)

Tyrrell Hatton is the highest-ranked Englishman at the Masters this year, sitting ninth in the world. He's level through six so far today after cancelling out a birdie at two with a bogey a moment ago.

  20. Crystal timepublished at 21:23 GMT 12 November 2020

    D Johnson -2 (5)

World number one Dustin Johnson earned himself a couple of crystal highball glasses with an eagle three on the par-five second.

The Augusta National hands them out to any player who makes an eagle during the round.
