    Hockey

There was a bit of a shock earlier on the in the women's hockey as England women suffered their first defeat of the competition against India.

Alex Danson scored after just 35 seconds for England and for much of the first period it looked like they'd comfortably win.

But, after a couple of wasted English chances, India hit back in the third quarter to equalise and scored the winner early in the final period.

T38 long jump champion Olivia Breen has told me she's 'over the moon' with her Commonwealth title.

The 21-year-old rounded off the competition with a personal best and Commonwealth Games record to follow up the world title she won last summer.

After coming fourth in the event in Glasgow, she's now grinning from ear to ear on top of the podium.

One of the issues with working at an Olympics or Commonwealth Games is your genetic inferiority is ruthlessly exposed. Athletes roam, tanned, chiselled, glowing, while you scurry for a bus while throwing down your latest toastie with all of its unrivalled nutritional value.

Around the entertainment areas at the beach volleyball are life-size prints of some of Australia’s players. Here is Chris McHugh and his wingspan. I’ll just say he is narrowly larger than me. Narrowly.

Whatever Chris. Enjoy paying for extra leg room.
