Real character from England's Tin-Tin Ho in the second game of the fourth rubber, but it is Australia's Miao Miao who wins it 11-9 to pull the match back to 1-1 overall.

England coach Marcus Gustafsson offers a few pearls of wisdom as Ho refuels before the third game. Tense stuff.

A look of confidence and belief - Courtney Tulloch was the favourite and unlike Max Whitlock the Englishman lived up to that billing and delivered an impressive routine to claim the rings Commonwealth title.

He sees his rivalry with team-mate - and silver medallist - Nile Wilson, as crucial to his improvement.

“We are hungry and we don’t come to a major to say we went there, we go to stand on the podium,” he tells me.

“We push one another every day and that will continue at the Euros and Worlds later in the year but Tokyo - the 2020 Olympics - is the main target.”

And on team-mate Max Whitlock’s struggles, he adds; “We all look up to Max and mistakes happen, he’s still a hero to us and a real super star.”

Downey’s crash is a first at the velodromepublished at 09:21 BST 8 April 2018

    Anna Thompson
BBC Sport on the Gold Coast

Remarkably, Mark Downey’s crash in the first heat of the men’s points race qualifier was the first at the velodrome in three and a bit days of racing.

The Northern Irish cyclist continued in the race but just missed out on making the final - finishing 13th and 12 went through.

The track was checked to make sure there were no nasty splinters ready to puncture tyres before the second heat, which features world champion, Australia’s Cameron Meyer - and he has already gained a lap on the others and bagged 20 points.
