    Kate O'Connor is aiming to win Team Northern Ireland's first gold of these Games in Glasgow and she is on course to do so as she leads the heptathlon after six events.

    She is 258 points clear of England's Jade O'Dowda before the final event - the 800m as she tries to win NI's first athletics gold since 1986.

    It would also be her first outdoor gold of her career so there is a lot on the line for the Newry-born athlete tonight.

    Agonising for Stephen Mackenzie!

    He produces a brilliant jump and for a moment he's ready to celebrate going into the gold medal position.

    That is until he sees the red flag - his toe was over the line by a millimetre or two.

    So unfortunate but the Scot stays third.

    Heptathlon

    Not long to go now until the heptathletes are out for their final discipline, the 800m.

    Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor has put herself into a very strong position and it will take something remarkable to deny her gold.

    But hoping that something remarkable can occur is England's Jade O'Dowda, who is some 258 points back in the silver medal spot.

    They're scheduled to go out at 20:55 BST.

    Four Welsh boxers have guaranteed themselves at least bronze medals having reached the semi-final stage.

    Daniel Pitt is hoping to join Rosie Eccles, Owain Harris-Allan, Orlando Holley-Sotomi and Connor Williams when he takes on Aussie Paul Trainor shortly.

    All four are sat in the stands ready to cheer him on.

    Women's 86kg weightlifting final

    England's Madias Ngake has to settle for a silver medal in the women's 86kg weightlifting final.

    She totals 239kg with Australia's Eileen Cikamatana coming into the clean and jerk section as the final lifter to take away the gold with 248kg overall. That is a Commonwealth Games record for Cikamatana.

    Canada's Rose Beaudoin (230kg) claims the bronze.

    Another medal ceremony, another 1-2-3 for Australia.

    Joint gold medals for Kyle Chalmers and Ben Armbruster and bronze for Callum McEvoy.

    Women's shot put final

    Two rounds down in the women's shot put final and Canada's Sarah Mitton, the defending champion, leads with a best of 18.91m.

    Wales' Adele Nicoll is fifth after registering 16.33m on her second attempt.

    She'll need to get close to her PB to get past Lloydricia Cameron of Jamaica's 17.40m and into the medal places.

    Men’s 50m freestyle S7 final

    A fantastic effort by Bruce Dee, who was swimming up a category, to claim the bronze medal. He told TNT Sports:

    "I'm really happy with that and also breaking my British record again this afternoon, which I'm really happy with.

    "Obviously racing up is different but I took it in my stride. It's great."

    A comfortable win for Silver Fernspublished at 20:27 BST 29 July

    Netball FT - New Zealand 65-37 Wales

    Job done for New Zealand at the Hydro, as they go top of Group B with a comfortable win over Wales.

    Amelia Walmsley scored on 93% of goal attempts, as the Silver Ferns raced away with the content before the half-way mark.

    Wales improved in the second half, and were only outscored by seven points after the break, but they were ultimately well beaten.

    New Zealand go above Jamaica into top spot while Wales stay fifth, with their final group stage game coming tomorrow against Jamaica.

    Men’s 50m freestyle S7 final

    Bruce Dee wins bronze for England!

    Christian Sadie comfortably takes the gold for South Africa with a new Commonwealth Games record time of 28.06. Singapore's Wei Soong Toh claims silver.

    Dee finishes just 0.30 seconds ahead of India's Suyash Narayan Jadhav.

    Men's long jump final

    We're into the fourth round of the men's long jump and Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie is third as things stand.

    His opening jump of 8.08m is just a centimetre behind Murali Sreeshankar of India in the silver medal position.

    Jamaica's Tajay Gayle leads with a best jump of 8.15m in round four.

    Women's 800m semi-finals

    England's Georgia Hunter-Bell kicks down the back straight to move into the lead and then just does enough to make sure she wins it.

    She looked a cut above in that semi-final and crosses the line in 1:59.88.

    Scotland's Jemma Reekie was right in it on that back straight but fades to finish seventh.

    Australia's Sarah Billings and Oratile Nowe of Botswana round off the top three.

    Good news for Wales as Isabelle Boffey does progress as one of the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

    Women’s 100m freestyle S9 final

    Toni Shaw breaks up the Australian clean sweeps with bronze for Scotland!

    The Aussies looked nailed on for a third straight 1-2-3 but Shaw claws her way back right at the last to claim third spot ahead of Victoria Belando Nicholson by just 0.02 seconds.

    Lakeisha Patterson wins gold in 1:02.99 and Emily Beecroft takes silver, 0.57 second behind her compatriot.

    Samoa's Sefulu Seuao tries 130kg with her second lift but cannot hold it.

    Australians Lakeisha Patterson and Emily Beecroft are the two to beat going into this one.
