  1. Hard work for Glamorganpublished at 13:39 BST 4 April

    Glamorgan 169-5 v Yorkshire - lunch

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It was Glamorgan’s first session but they had to work hard for their 70 runs against an accurate Yorkshire attack for the loss of Ben Kellaway’s wicket.

We still don’t know whether Jonny Bairstow will continue in the match with the Yorkshire captain giving his sore thumb time to recover before making a decision, but it was stand-in skipper Dom Bess who bowled Kellaway just after he had reached 50 and the stand with Colin Ingram had passed 100.

Ingram and Chris Cooke ground out the second hour of the day adding 40 at two an over or less, and Cooke should have gone the ball before lunch with Adam Lyth dropping a shin-high slip catch off Bess.

    Durham 335 v Kent 132-7

Matt Potts saw Tawanda Muyeye put down last night on nought and he's just seen Emilio Gay miss the chance of ousting Matt Milnes after finding the edge, with the ball bursting through his hands at third slip and away for four runs to add insult to injury.

  3. Baker again looking sharppublished at 13:36 BST 4 April

    Hampshire v Essex 308-6 - lunch

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

A couple of wickets in the last 15 minutes of the morning session has brought Hampshire back into the game somewhat.

Before that Essex had made steady progress building on their good work from yesterday.

Matt Critchley has been watchful this morning adding just 33 runs to his overnight total. Overall, the visitors added 89 for three in the session.

Codi Yusuf picked up his first Hampshire wicket and Sonny Baker has once more looked sharp.

    Stewart b Aldridge 1 (Durham 335 v Kent 127-7)

Sam Northeast picks up a single off Kasey Aldridge to get the afternoon session under way...

It brings Grant Stewart onto strike.

    AND HE'S GONE.

Stewart takes an almighty swing and misses it entirely and his middle-stump is up-rooted. A second for Aldridge.

Extraordinary shot to play straight after lunch, in this situation, though.

Matt Milnes joins Northeast. Kent 208 in arrears.

This knock from Andersson will bring his first class average in line with Crawley's, and he's handy with the ball. Call up coming?

    Steve, Stoke

Think that's now 12 different players who are taking Zak Crawley's Test place in the past 24 hours or so. But Martin Andersson's career-best 227* for Derbyshire has certainly been something to behold.

They'd make a good firm of solicitors as well.

    Durham 335 v Kent 126-6

The early lunch was due to finish a couple of minutes ago but the afternoon session has been delayed until 13:30 BST due to a sharp shower during the interval.

Kent won't mind a bit, given the predicament they are in, 209 behind with four first-innings wickets in hand.

  10. Yates shows intent for Bearspublished at 13:23 BST 4 April

    Warwickshire 125-1 v Surrey 328 - lunch

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

After last night’s play, Ethan Bamber suggested that while Warwickshire were disappointed to allow Surrey to escape with a total of 328, the pitch might prove more amenable to batters as the game went on.

His prediction looks good after the first session today, in which Rob Yates and Alex Davies shared a century opening partnership.

Davies was the more fluent in the first hour. Now without the cares of the captaincy, he studded his 58 with a dozen boundaries, most of them hit confidently in front of square.

Having seen off the first spells of all four seamers, he slog-swept Dan Lawrence to midwicket, and left with the air of a man thinking he had left a few runs behind.

Yates may pick some of them up this afternoon. He started more carefully, scoring only nine in the first hour, but a confident pull off James Taylor freed him up, and his half-century arrived an over before lunch.

He opened last season here with a century, and looks intent on repeating the feat.

Matt Fisher was the most threatening of the Surrey seam bowlers, making a few deliveries kick past the shoulder of the bat during two spells from the City End, and Lawrence seemed to find some occasional turn from outside the left-handers’ off-stump as lunch approached.

  11. Anderson 'masterclass' after Sanderson milestonepublished at 13:21 BST 4 April

    Northamptonshire 52-5 v Lancashire 384 - lunch

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Sir James Anderson delivered a characteristic bowling masterclass at Wantage Road to tear the heart out of Northamptonshire's batting in an action-packed morning session.

The 43-year-old bagged four wickets for 28 runs in seven overs as the home side crumbled to 52-5 at lunch - still 332 runs behind.

He could also have accounted for Australian Nathan McSweeney first ball, but Harry Singh spilled a regulation chance at second slip.

Earlier, Northamptonshire's Ben Sanderson became only the 14th bowler in the club's history to claim 600 all-format wickets as he wrapped up the Lancashire innings to finish with 5-79.

  12. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:18 BST 4 April

    Hants v Essex 308-6

Noah Thain's dismissal is the last piece of action as the players depart the middle.

And Hampshire's bowlers have a little more spring in their step than they might have had after taking three wickets in the morning session.

It is still Essex's contest at the moment but they have perhaps not got away quite as well as they would have hoped given the partnerships.

A few quick wickets after lunch could yet tilt this back the home side's way.

  13. Frustrating morning for Overtonpublished at 13:17 BST 4 April

    Somerset 347 v Nottinghamshire 34-0 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Craig Overton, left high and dry on 60 not out, was understandably furious when Jake Ball succumbed to the first of the two Dillon Pennington deliveries he was entrusted with surviving, so that Somerset missed out on a third batting point by just three runs.

The length of the Somerset tail had already been demonstrated by the wickets of Leach, Pretorius and Ogborne, all for low scores.

There was more frustration for Overton when Notts batted and he had Haseeb Hameed in all sorts of trouble without finding the edge.

    Nottinghamshire's morning.

  14. Crocombe 'can trouble the best'published at 13:15 BST 4 April

    Leicestershire 139-5 v Sussex 361

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

On balance Sussex's morning with Henry Crocombe picking up three late wickets before lunch as the hosts lost 3-20 in a middle order collapse.

Before that Leicestershire had looked comfortable with Australian opener Jake Weatherald punishing anything over pitched or short, and using his experience to rotate the strike with well run singles.

Henry Crocombe is the quickest of the Sussex attack, but has been troubled by a shoulder injury in recent seasons, and although wayward on occasions, when he hits his line and length he can trouble the best of batters at this level.

WICKETpublished at 13:14 BST 4 April

    Thain c Brown b Baker 2 (Hants v Essex 308-6)

Noah Thain is not happy with that but it has taken a huge deflection after spitting off the pitch and Ben Brown has skipped smartly to his right to take the catch.

That is due reward for a decent spell from Sonny Baker in which his levels have not dropped.

Whether it hit the bat is not easy to see from the replays. It could have hit his body, glove, bat, forearm. Whatever he is on his way and that is the morning session ended.

  16. dropped catch

Lunch at Cardiffpublished at 13:13 BST 4 April

    Glamorgan 169-5 v Yorkshire

    Out - no!

Chris Cooke edges Dom Bess's final ball of an extended morning to first slip, but the normally reliable Adam Lyth fails to take the catch.

It's been a slow morning, with Glamorgan adding 70 runs in 31 overs and Bess taking the only wicket to fall, bowling Ben Kellaway with a beauty which turned in from outside off stump for 52.

Colin Ingram is 72 not out from 170 balls faced so far.

  17. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:06 BST 4 April

    Warwicks 125-1 v Surrey 328

Not far off a perfect session for the hosts, bar losing Alex Davies to a rather aggressive shot after a fluent 58 just before the interval.

Rob Yates (54*) has also brought up a half-century after a slow start and finished the session with his 11th four from the final ball, a nice late cut off Dan Lawrence.

They are 203 behind Surrey's total but will have bonus points in mind later in the day as they seek to avoid any of the momentum collapses they inflicted on Surrey on the opening day.

  18. Lunch at Wantage Roadpublished at 13:06 BST 4 April

    Northants 52-5 v Lancs 384

James Anderson was applauded out to the middle as he tried to help Lancashire reach 400. They fell short in the end despite the best efforts of Tom Bailey.

But he is being applauded off by his teammates after a devastating seven over spell of 4-28 which leaves Northants in disarray.

It was like rolling back the years as the 43-year-old had it on a wire and with decent back up from Tom Bailey and Ajeet Singh Dale the visitors are in firm control of this match.

It has changed quickly as well with Ben Sanderson bagging 5-79 as Northants made shortish work of the Lancs lower order, removing the last six wickets for 72 runs.

But there is no doubt where the momentum lies now and it is not in what will be a gloomy home dressing room.

Play is continuing at Cardiff where we lost so much time yesterday because of rain.

Colin Ingram is 70 not out and Chris Cooke has 22.

  20. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:03 BST 4 April

    Derbys 548-5 v Worcs

Martin Andersson's career-best 227* from 268 balls and a monster stand of 273 for the fifth wicket with Luis Reece (114) have made it a perfect start to the season for Derbyshire, with maximum batting points secured.

Andersson and Anuj Dal (33*) have been dealing in ones and twos of late, but have already added a rapid 94 for the sixth wicket from 115 balls.

it's damage limitation for the Pears as they await a declaration - presumably one will arrive before tea.
