    Vasconcelos b Anderson 25 (Northants 35-3 v Lancs 384)

Jimmy Anderson comes round the wicket and gets one to continue in on the angle and whip out Ricardo Vasconcelos's off stump, which cartwheels away in stylish fashion.

Northants are in a bit of bother here three down and with Tom Bailey and the Lancs skipper sensing blood in the water.

  2. Postpublished at 12:38 BST 4 April

    Warwicks 95-0 v Surrey 328

Lovely stroke from Rob Yates, driving Dan Lawrence back down the ground to the long-on boundary.

Good job it got there because Lawrence's vain dive sent Alex Davies flying at the non-striker's end.

Yates now has nine fours in his 40* and has nearly caught up Davies who has 10 in his 46*.

A near perfect morning for the hosts at Edgbaston.

  3. 150 runs

for Leus du Plooypublished at 12:37 BST 4 April

    Middx 358-5 v Glos

Craig Miles steams in from round the wicket but that is a poor delivery and Leus Du Plooy climbs into it, square cutting powerfully for four to reach his 150 from 219 balls. Middlesex 'hold all the aces' at this point in the game.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:34 BST 4 April

    Holland c Leaning b Crocombe 17 (Leics 117-2 v Sussex 361)

A pre-lunch tonic for Sussex at Grace Road.

Ian Holland plays a 'nothing shot' at a delivery from Henry Crocombe without moving his feet and Jack Leaning clings onto the catch at third slip.

Last summer's 'run machine' Rehan Ahmed comes to the crease.

"Crocombe has been the quickest Sussex bowler over the past couple of seasons, though he has had some injury issues," says BBC commentator Adrian Harms.

Rain stops play at CLSpublished at 12:32 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 126-6

    Sorry Durham fans, commentator's curse...

The rain has begun to fall, the covers are rushed on and the players head off after a short session which Durham have bossed.

Sam Northeast is unbeaten on 58* in his two-and-a-half hour vigil with Grant Stewart on one.

Expect we'll seen an early lunch, but we'll keep you posted.

  7. Postpublished at 12:32 BST 4 April

    Hants v Essex 289-4

The departure of Charlie Allison has done little to disrupt the flow of this Essex innings with Matt Critchley picking up with Michael Pepper on a similar fashion.

The pair have added 36 in no time at all and Hampshire's bowlers are looking short of ideas.

Even Kyle Abbott, who was one bright spot on a poor opening day, is struggling to locate a testing line and length with both batsman helping themselves to a boundary in his latest over.

  8. Postpublished at 12:31 BST 4 April

    Leics 111-2 v Sussex 361

Sussex give Tom Haines a go with the ball before lunch.

He finds the edge of Jake Weatherald's bat but the ball runs away for four through where second slip would have been standing had there been one.

  9. Postpublished at 12:29 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 124-6

Grant Stewart shoulders arms flamboyantly as Kemar Roach gets one to keep low and come back a mile towards off-stump.

Stewart can only look to the sky as he awaits the sound of the death rattle, but it never comes. Can't have been more than an inch in that.

The skies remain heavy but the lights are on and Mother Nature would not seem to be coming to Kent's aid any time soon.

  10. Postpublished at 12:27 BST 4 April

    Warwickshire 84-0 v Surrey 328

Dan Lawrence is coming on to bowl some off-spin, and will face Alex Davies first-up.

Intriguing spell coming up before lunch.

  11. 200 runs

for Martin Anderssonpublished at 12:27 BST 4 April

    Derbys 505-5 v Worcs

    Martin AnderssonImage source, Shutterstock

Before this match Martin Andersson's highest first-class score was 107 - and the way he's going he could be about to double it.

He reaches a magnificent double century from just 233 balls faced by sweeping Brett D'Oliveira for four - the 25th of his innings to go with two sixes.

    No wonder he looks chuffed!

  12. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:26 BST 4 April

    Northants 20-2 v Lancs 384

Jimmy Anderson nearly has two in two and should have as Nathan McSweeney is dropped first ball at second slip.

That was very catchable and Harry Singh is usually pretty safe but it has gone in and then out with the opener failing to grab at second attempt.

  13. Postpublished at 12:26 BST 4 April

    Som 347 v Notts 6-0

Notts get the scoreboard going with a lovely back foot punch from the classy Ben Slater.

Perfect timing, Alfie Ogborne only a fraction short there, the kind of ball that probably would not be hit for four in 2s or WEPL cricket, but such is the level young Ogborne is now playing at.

Remember him twice getting James Vince in the Championship though, so he does have a useful record against one particular classy top order player.

  14. 500 up for Derbyshirepublished at 12:25 BST 4 April

    Derbys 500-5 v Worcs

Is it possible to be totally fed up just four sessions into a new County Championship season? This experience must be testing the enthusiasm of Worcestershire's bowlers.

Anuj Dal pulls Adam Finch away for a single as Derbyshire's total reaches 500.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:23 BST 4 April

    Benjamin c Raine b Aldridge 19 (Durham 335 v Kent 117-6)

Kasey Aldridge has a first Durham wicket.

Chris Benjamin gets down on one knee to drive to smash him through cover but can only send it straight into the bucket hands of Ben Raine.

He'll be disappointed to get out like that after a handy knock and adding 49 from 68 balls with Sam Northeast but Durham have a timely breakthrough.

Grant Stewart is the new man in the middle.

  16. Postpublished at 12:22 BST 4 April

    Som 347 v Notts 0-0

A fired up Craig Overton has not had long to calm down after the frustrations of seeing his number 11 get out two short of that 350 mark for the third batting bonus point.

He gives himself the new ball as expected and could have had his opposite skipper Haseeb Hameed lbw in the first over, not given, and it is a maiden.

Alfie Ogborne will open alongside him, great to see a young lad being given the new nut in Lewis Gregory's absence.

  17. 50 runs

for Sam Northeastpublished at 12:20 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 116-5

An oasis of calm in the madness around him last night and this morning.

Sam Northeast is back at his home county and has his first half-century of the summer on his second Kent debut.

He gets up on his toes to punch Kemar Roach away to backward point to run three and complete a 94-ball fifty, featuring eight fours.

Handy partnership with Chris Benjamin (19*) this as they trim the deficit to 219 with five wickets in hand.

  18. wicket

    Harrison c Hurst b Anderson 4 (Northants 20-2 v Lancs 384)

Arise Sir James. And take a first wicket of yet another season.

Calvin Harrison is not best pleased, knight of the realm or no knight of the realm, standing there in a manner that suggests he didn't think he touched that.

If he did it was with the outer edges of a small feather but he has gone and Lancs are charging early.

  20. Five-wicket haul for Penningtonpublished at 12:13 BST 4 April

    Ball c Haynes b Pennington 2 (Som 347 All out v Notts)

    Dillon PenningtonImage source, Shutterstock

Craig Overton (60*) managed to keep the strike and get Somerset up to 346, but then he takes a single with just two balls remaining in the 104th over.

Jake Ball cannot survive even one of the two balls he is trusted with.

Dillon Pennington deserves his 5-65 but Overton is fuming that Ball cannot do his small role of helping him get Somerset over the final hurdle they could feasibly have achieved in 110 overs.

How crucial could that one point missed out on be come September?
