  1. Eagle for Smalleypublished at 23:39 BST 17 May

    Smalley -6, Schmid -5 (16)

Matti Schmid stumbles to a par on the 16th. The biggest prize may well have eluded him but this is still some debut at the US PGA Championship.

And to rub it in slightly Alex Smalley, who started as the overnight leader drains a putt for eagle to leapfrog him on the leaderboard.

    It's spectacular.

It's so nice to see him and Jason Timmis, his caddie being able to enjoy this moment.

They have been together so long and it's a fantastic thing to watch.

  4. Par as Rahm comes up shortpublished at 23:36 BST 17 May

    Rahm -6 (17)

Jon Rahm knocks it in for a par on 17 and that means he won't be winning the US PGA Championship this year.

He's had a great week and hasn't done too much wrong, Rahm has just found a guy in Aaron Rai who has been too good at Aronimink.

    Rai -9 (65)

Aaron Rai won his first PGA Tour event at the 2024 Wydnham Championship.

He shot 64 in the final round to seal the deal and he did have a putt to make that on the 18th.

    But he didn't need to.

This has been as good a final round performance you will ever see. Fairways, greens, hole the odd putt. Textbook. And goes to show it's not all about bombing big drives.

This is wonderful to see our local hero one step away from becoming a major champion. He still comes down to 3 hammers in Wolverhampton to meet junior golfers. A real gent, thoroughly deserved!

    Rai -9 (65)

There's a warm embrace for playing partner Ludvig Aberg and then Aaron Rai is met by his wife.

His eyes are closed and tears are welling. Terrific scenes on the 18th.

  8. Rai finishes with a parpublished at 23:34 BST 17 May

    Rai -9 (65)

It's not a birdie for Aaron Rai but a cosied putt leaves him a tap in for par.

Into the clubhouse after shooting five under on the back nine. He has marmalised the tricky half of Aronimink.

    Outstanding.

    Smalley -4, Schmid -5 (16)

Matti Schmid finds the greenside bunker on the 16th.

His third is a pretty decent chip in to eight feet and a birdie here would stick him in a tie for second.

Come on Aaron, finish with a flourish.

  11. Birdie for Abergpublished at 23:32 BST 17 May

    Aberg -5 (69)

Good finish from Ludvig Aberg whose final holes I've neglected a tad in the Aaron Rai excitement.

That's a great putt from 13 feet for birdie and he finishes at five under par.

    Rai -9 (17)

The shadows are seriously long on the 18th green now as Aaron Rai strides forward to take his place.

He closes his eyes and puffs out his cheeks.

Did he picture this last night as he fell asleep?

    He could finish birdie-birdie-birdie here.

    Brilliant shot.

    Aberg -4, Rai -9 (17)

    How's the adrenaline, Aaron?

A final approach to the 18th and he has taken dead aim. Well, why not?

It takes one bounce past the hole and rolls round the back and stops 10 feet away.

Huge applause from the massed crowds behind that green.

Love this between Ludvig Aberg and Aaron Rai on the 17th green moments ago.

    Game recognises game.

  16. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 23:24 BST 17 May

    Rahm -6 (16)

Jon Rahm gets out of the front bunker on 16 brilliantly, and leaves the ball close enough to the hole to roll in a birdie putt to get to six under.

Aaron Rai is still clear but Rahm now has to swing for the fences on the last two holes to try and produce something special.

  17. McIlroy finishes four underpublished at 23:22 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4 (69), Schauffele -4 (69)

A whack out of the rough for Rory McIlroy at the last leaves him short of the green but he plays a lovely chip up the green and holes out for par and a closing 69.

Given he was four over after the opening round, it was a valiant effort from the Masters champion but it just wasn't to be his week and he'll be gutted to have covered the par-fives in only level par this week.

He'll be targeting a big run at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills next month.

Xander Schauffele finishes with a flourish to hole out for birdie and matches McIlroy's 69, but they'll both leave Aronimink disappointed.

    Rai -9 (17)

One final swing for Aaron Rai as he lines up at the 18th tee.

    Fairway? Naturally.

    He's closing in.

  19. Bogey for Schmidpublished at 23:21 BST 17 May

    Smalley -4, Schmid -5 (15)

Matti Schmid looks almost resigned to just trying to get close and hoping for errors elsewhere.

He rolls down to three feet and a certain bogey. Is that the Championship as far as he is concerned?

    Rai -9 (17)

    Penny for Justin Thomas' thoughts.

He's probably been sat in the clubhouse for four hours wondering if his -5 would be enough.

Aaron Rai has put everyone in his rearview mirror.
