  1. Double bogeys for Fowler & DeChambeaupublished at 20:44 BST 15 May

    Rickieeeee!!!

You could imagine Bianca from Eastenders screaming in frustration as the seventh hole turns into a bit of mare for Rickie Fowler.

Fowler's tee shot finds the rough to the left of the fairway and then his approach to the green hits the bunker. He gets on the green in four before two putting for a double bogey.

The par-four hole is also a tale of woe for Bryson DeChambeau.

He finds the rough and bunkers on the opposite side of the fairway to Fowler then twice putts for a double bogey of his own to go nine over.

I'd love to know how Rory, a Grand Slam winner, can fail to hit fairways with such regularity. Professional golfers should be able to tee off straight 95% of the time. It makes no sense that someone with his talent misses fairways. He's going to struggle to make the cut.

    Tom, UK

He's steadied the ship so far today to be fair.

As long as he doesn't have another unprecedented bogey run that is!

  3. Birdie for Koepkapublished at 20:33 BST 15 May

    Schauffele E, Koepka -2,Hatton +5 (6)

Brooks Koepka cuts the corner off the dogleg sixth from the tee and then sets up another birdie attempt with a gentle wedge into around 10 feet.

The five-time major champion has been struggling with his putter so far this week but he pours this one in to climb inside the top 10 on the leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele, the winner of this tournament two years ago, drops another shot after a careless approach.

  4. Postpublished at 20:27 BST 15 May

    McIlroy +2, Rahm -1, Spieth -1 (5)

Going long at the par-three fifth is a big no-no but Rory McIlroy's effort comes up woefully short. His reaction after striking the ball suggests he didn't catch it.

It's a very tricky two-putt from 50 feet but he manages it well and maintains his early momentum.

Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm both catch the wrong side of the ridge that splits the middle of this green but negotiate their putts with remarkable touch.

  5. Koepka goes closepublished at 20:19 BST 15 May

    Schauffele -1, Koepka -1,Hatton +5 (5)

Brooks Koepka takes aim a good 15 feet left of the cup on the par-three fifth and he ends up only a ball width away from a simply brilliantly judged birdie from over 30 feet.

The American has looked great with his irons, if he can find that last little bit on the greens it would not be a surprise to see him lifting the Wanamaker Trophy for a fourth time on Sunday evening.

  6. Postpublished at 20:14 BST 15 May

    Higgo +2 (7*)

Garrick Higgo snaps a run of bogey, bogey, bogey with a par on the 16th. The South African was on time for the opening tee today but since then precious little has run for him.

  7. Hojgaard on the slidepublished at 20:13 BST 15 May

    Hojgaard E (8*)

Nicolai Hojgaard had it going earlier on, but after a bogey on 15, the Dane visits the drink and takes five at the par-three 17th.

Three shots gone just like that.

  8. Hatton having onepublished at 20:12 BST 15 May

    Schauffele -1, Koepka -1,Hatton +5 (4)

    Tyrrell Hatton is having one.

The Englishman clips through the fourth green and while his pitch back on looks pretty mediocre, he had very little space to land it and leaves a par putt of around six feet.

However, when he can't knock it in that brings up his third bogey in four holes. The way things are going he won't be hanging around for the weekend.

  9. Bogey for Brysonpublished at 20:11 BST 15 May

    DeChambeau +7, Aberg +1, Fowler -1 (4)

Making the cut is looking like it's going to be tricky for Bryson DeChambeau.

The 32-year-old American drops another shot on the par-three fifth after he fails to hit the green from the tee.

His chip is not much better and two putts a 14-footer.

Pars for Rickie Fowler and Ludvig Aberg.

  10. McIlroy bags anotherpublished at 20:10 BST 15 May

    McIlroy +2, Rahm -1, Spieth -1 (4)

Three cracking drives down the 460-yard par-four fourth.

    Time to go flag-hunting.

Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm both come up well shy and settle for par, but Rory McIlroy - after a 344-yard bash down the fairway - saws off his follow-through and knocks his approach to eight feet below the hole.

And in it goes! Two birdies in his first holes and he looks a different player already.

  11. Potgieter goes clearpublished at 19:57 BST 15 May

    Potgieter -5 (9)

    Aldrich PotgieterImage source, Getty Images

Aldrich Potgieter dunks his ball into the sand on the ninth as he tries to attack the green with his second.

But from there he does everything right, with a superb splash out to three feet to set up a birdie chance he duly takes.

It takes the South African one shot clear at the top of the leaderboard.

  12. Postpublished at 19:54 BST 15 May

    DeChambeau +6, Aberg +1, Fowler -1 (4)

Birdie hopes across the board on the fourth hole for this grouping.

But judging the pace of the greens once again proves tricky.

Rickie Fowler comes up agonisingly an inch short of the hole, Ludvig Aberg is also short while Bryson DeChambeau peels it just wide.

    A trio of pars.

  13. Postpublished at 19:53 BST 15 May

    McIlroy +3, Rahm -1, Spieth -1 (3)

Rory McIlroy's ball runs out of fairway down the left on the third, but he plays an educated second, landing his ball well short and letting the contours do the work.

His ball finishes 13 feet short but this time it slips past on the right edge.

Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm have both started with three straight pars. Steady stuff in these more favourable scoring conditions.

  14. Bogey for MW Leepublished at 19:49 BST 15 May

    MW Lee -3 (5)

Min Woo Lee gives the birdie back he made at the fourth immediately after woefully coming up six feet short with a birdie putt.

The pace of the greens has proved problematic for plenty today and the Australian is the latest to experience that.

  15. Bogeys for Schauffele & Hattonpublished at 19:47 BST 15 May

    Schauffele -1, Koepka -1,Hatton +4 (3)

Oh my goodness. Tyrrell Hatton goes that far left off the third tee that he'll need a satnav to find his way back.

The Englishman does reappear with a pretty decent shot to find the front of the dance floor but then spoils his good work by taking three with his flatstick, to register his second bogey in three holes.

He's joined in doing that by Xander Schauffele, whose par putt stays low and looks to be a complete misread.

  16. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 19:39 BST 15 May

    McIlroy +3, Rahm -1, Spieth -1 (2)

There it is, a much-needed birdie for Rory McIlroy. His 12-footer from the back of the second green loops around the cup and goes underground.

He won't be getting too excited though as he needs a few more of those before he can start thinking about looking up the leaderboard.

  17. MW Lee claims share of leadpublished at 19:38 BST 15 May

    MW Lee -4 (4)

Min Woo Lee has only made the cut once in his previous six major appearances but he is well on course at present.

In fact that's an understatement, as he rolls in for a birdie and share of the lead on the fourth hole.

  18. Smalley signs off in stylepublished at 19:35 BST 15 May

    Smalley -4 (69)

Alex Smalley at the US PGA ChampionshipImage source, Getty Images

Alex Smalley signs off in style with a birdie at the ninth taking him back to four under and back into a share of the lead after an eventful round.

Smalley skipped two shots clear on five under with two late birdies on his front nine, but then had a huge wobble when carding three straight bogeys.

He stood strong though and responded with a boune back birdie and then one more at the last that saw him come home with a one-under round of 69.

And sat on four under you have to think he'll be going out very late tomorrow, maybe even in the final pairing.

  19. Potgieter going along nicelypublished at 19:34 BST 15 May

    Potgieter -4 (8)

Aldrich Potgieter is going along very steadily at present with six pars on his card as well as a solitary birdie.

However, that's not his best tee shot on the par-three eighth hole. It leaves a 50-foot birdie putt and he comes up short by five feet before saving his par.

The South African, who lives in Mossel Bay, a Great White shark hotspot, is 21 years & 244 days old today.

And if he does end up with at least a share of the lead, he would become the youngest player to have the 36-hole lead (tied or outright) at a major championship since Tiger Woods at the 1997 Masters (21 years & 102 days).

  20. Back-to-back birdies for Fowlerpublished at 19:33 BST 15 May

    DeChambeau +6, Aberg +1, Fowler -1 (3)

Rickie Fowler with his futuristic sunglassesImage source, Getty Images

Brooding clouds lingering overhead at Aronimink.

Rickie Fowler looks the most likely in this grouping to get in among it at the top of the leaderboard.

A crisp iron to the green at the third leaves his him a putt from 10 feet which he slides in with a minimum of fuss.

Fowler, incidentally, is sporting a futuristic pair of sunglasses. Like something you might see Jeff Bridges wearing in the science-fiction film Tron.

Pars for Bryson DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg.
