The leading seven players all shot a three-under 67 on Thursday.

And after plenty of bold predictions around how Aronimink could be unpicked by the big hitters it turned out that it was the first time since 2008, that the leader(s) were no more than three shots better than par.

It was also just the third time in US PGA Championship history that seven or more players were tied at the end of any round, with nine players in the same place, sharing the lead after the first round of the 1959 and 1969 championships.

A pair of well-fancied Brits in this group and both had some good stuff yesterday.

Three birdies and three bogeys left Bob MacIntyre within striking distance. As for Tommy Fleetwood, he struggled on the greens and is a further two shots back.

Both still very much in the mix - but that could be said about a lot of this field.

  4. Lowry lashes opening drivepublished at 13:14 BST 15 May

    Lowry -2, Hovland +4, Morikawa -1

Shane Lowry had a lovely first round of 68 and he starts day two in similar fashion as he rips a driver away at the 10th and plants it right in position A on the fairway.

Collin Morikawa battled away for his 69 and despite his back problems you can't rule him out - he also finds the short stuff but Viktor Hovland, who really needs to start well today, does exactly the opposite as he fires his drive into the right bunker.

  5. 'I'm not here to have a New York strip with you guys'published at 13:09 BST 15 May

The performances of Stephan Jaeger and Martin Kaymer on Thursday, put the spotlight on German golf for the first time for a while as they grabbed a share of the lead.

Two-time major champion Kaymer served up a delicious quote around being asked if he was still actually playing golf by a PGA of America official at the the champion's dinner, saying "I'm not flying from Europe to here to have a New York strip with you guys," and that it had "really motivated" him.

The only time that two German players had previously been among the top five at the end of one major championship round was at the 2001 Open Championship.

On that occasion Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka were tied for the lead.

Those who teed off in the early wave on Thursday had a stroke average of 72.13 while the players to tee off later in the day when the wind picked up averaged 72.36.

Overall though that's a nice even split, which is just what you want over the course of a long day at a major championship - with no real advantage.

    Welcome back golf fans!

Unlike Garrick Higgo you're bang on time for the start of the second day of the 108th US PGA Championship from Aronimink just outside Philadelphia.

Seven players from five different countries share the lead after the first round, unsurprisingly including defending champion Scottie Scheffler but very surprisingly also featuring 2010 winner Martin Kaymer.

So it's an eclectic mix after a fascinating day one where the golf course many feared could be overpowered showed it was by no means a pushover.

With Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau needing to respond after poor first rounds we're in for some fun today as the players look to get their own back on Aronimink. So stay tuned!
