  1. Fitzpatrick, Schauffele & DeChambeau tee offpublished at 18:25 BST 10 April

    Fitzpatrick +2, Schauffele -2, DeChambeau +4 (18:20)

After a iffy round yesterday, Bryson DeChambeau's opening tee shot just slides down into the bunker.

Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele follow up with tee shots straight down the middle.

  2. Hall on birdie trainpublished at 18:23 BST 10 April

    Hall +3 (14)

There's no stopping Harry Hall at present who knocks in a birdie putt from downtown on the 14th.

That was superbly judged from over 40 feet and it's his fourth straight birdie, which at this rate looks like extending his Masters bow into the weekend.

  3. Scottie lands another birdiepublished at 18:21 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +1 (10)

No dramas for Scottie Scheffler on the 10th. He knocks in his tiddler for birdie to get back to where he started the day.

Bob MacIntyre and Gary Woodland in for pars. Bob's going to need to pick up at least a couple of shots on this back nine to stand any chance of making the weekend.

  4. Small beer for Fitzpatrickpublished at 18:16 BST 10 April

Also, in Bryson DeChambeau's group is Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick who finished with a two-over round of 74.

Fitzpatrick knocked a beer out of the hand of a spectator with a slightly wayward drive which missed the fairway on the third hole yesterday.

In fairness the 31-year-old did apologise and a beer at Augusta is a fairly reasonable $6 (about £4.50) so presumably the fan in question will have a story he can tell for years to come.

  5. Gotterup birdies 12published at 18:15 BST 10 April

    Rahm +5, Gotterup -2, Aberg +1 (12)

Par is always a good score on the short 12th. Over the left edge of the bunker, middle of the green. Every day. No matter where the pin is.

Chris Gotterup ignores all that and goes straight at the pin. And then rolls in the four-footer for birdie.

Jon Rahm and Ludvig Aberg safely in for pars.

  6. Back-to-back pars for Burnspublished at 18:15 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +2, Knapp E (17:32)

Sam Burns deftly chips himself on to the green to leave himself a 12-footer for birdie, but comes up just a fraction short for par.

The American with a couple of pars to start.

Jake Knapp is back down to evens after a superb chip over the bunker lands within seven feet of the hole and he duly rolls in the bridie putt.

A little nod of appreciation to the crowd from Knapp.

  7. Rose joins the leaders!published at 18:14 BST 10 April

    Rose -5, Spieth -1, Koepka -1 (11)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

That's a hat-trick of birdies for Justin Rose as the floodgates have now opened following some decent play but no results earlier on in his round.

He's just played the 11th about as well as you possibly can, with a crunching drive and then a stripe show of an iron leaving an easy putt to go to five under.

He wants that Green Jacket doesn't he?

  8. Postpublished at 18:13 BST 10 April

    Reed -3, Fleetwood -1, Bhatia +1 (18:08 BST)

The 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed takes a wood off the first tee to allow him to take the fairway bunker out of play. Akshay Bhatia does the same and head left into the first cut.

Tommy Fleetwood doesn't. Instead he elects to go with his driver and that brings the sand trap into the equation. Predictably the Englishman's ball skips off the fairway into it.

  9. Lowry opens with birdiepublished at 18:11 BST 10 April

    Lowry -3, Day -3, Johnson +1 (1)

After a fine opening drive, Shane Lowry clips a wedge from 144 yards to 11 feet left of the cup.

A great chance for an opening birdie...and in it goes! He emulates his opening birdie from yesterday.

Perfect start for the Irishman. He's just two back.

Pars for Jason Day and Dustin Johnson.

  10. DeChambeau puzzled by 'weird' iron playpublished at 18:08 BST 10 April

    DeChambeau +4 (18:20 BST)

Robert MacIntyre wasn't the only big name to have a day to forget on Thursday.

Bryson DeChambeau carded a four-over 76, with much of that damage done on the par-four 11th where posted a triple-bogey seven - after taking three shots to emerge from a greenside bunker.

"Just going to give what the golf course gives me. I have to try to hit my irons better. I drove it left numerous occasions. Did a great job on 18. Wind didn't hurt it like we thought, and that's this game. That's the golf course," DeChambeau mused.

"You know, everybody has an ability for weird things to happen, and today I just did not have my irons under control, which is weird. It's been good coming into it."

  11. Postpublished at 18:08 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +1 (9)

Huge birdie chance coming up for Scottie Scheffler after he goes pin-seeking at the 10th. His wedge into the green is right on target and sticks around.

  12. Watch: 'Nice eagle to pull off'published at 18:07 BST 10 April

    Lowry -2 (17:56 BST)

Watch: Shane Lowry speaks to BBC Sport NI's Stephen Watson following his opening round.

Shane Lowry finished his opening round at The Masters two under par with the help of an eagle on the 13th he says "was nice to pull it off".

The Irish golfer was speaking to BBC Sport NI's Stephen Watson after his round, joking that Rory McIlroy - who enjoyed a good start to his defence of the title - will "probably kick on now and win about four in a row".

  13. Rose with a dartpublished at 18:06 BST 10 April

    Rose -4, Spieth -1, Koepka -1 (11)

Justin Rose fires another laser into the 11th green that drops, spins and sits in there nice a close. He is seriously on it right now.

  14. Postpublished at 18:05 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +2, Knapp +1 (1)

    Sam BurnsImage source, EPA

Sam Burns' best finish in the Masters came in 2023 when he finished 29th.

After a career-best five-under 67 yesterday he'll be desperate to hang around the top of the leaderboard with a solid second round.

The American kicks out his right leg on his follow through after crisp approach shot at the second which gives him a sniff of a birdie.

  15. Fleetwood aims to bounce backpublished at 18:04 BST 10 April

    Fleetwood -1 (18:08 BST)

    Tommy FleetwoodImage source, Reuters

It was a first round of two halves for Tommy Fleetwood, who was four under after the front nine - but went on to drop three of those shots.

The Englishman still sits on one under and insists he will "go again" after bogeying two of the last three yesterday.

"That's done now, so there is nothing to do about it," he said.

"It's done now, isn't it? Nothing to do. Do a bit of practice, go home, get up tomorrow, and go again."

  16. Birdie for Pengepublished at 18:00 BST 10 April

    Penge +2 (8)

Marco Penge is hovering around the projected cut line at the present so still has work to do to ensure he hangs around for the weekend.

However, more shots like this won't do the English debutant any harm as he catches a long iron and flushes it down the par-five eighth to find the dance floor in two.

He's putting from 26 feet for eagle but shunts that left although his pace is perfect so it's an easy tap-in birdie.

  17. Can Shane surge up leaderboard?published at 18:00 BST 10 April

    Lowry -2, Day -3, Johnson +1 (17:56 BST)

Shane Lowry and Dustin JohnsonImage source, Getty Images

Shane Lowry's best Masters finish in 2022 - tied third - was helped by a confidence-boosting 68 in the second round.

The Irishman would certainly take that score today to firmly thrust himself into the mix for a second major win heading into the weekend.

And don't sleep on Jason Day. The former world number one has five top-10s to his name around here and played better and better as yesterday's round progressed.

Dustin Johnson has more work to do at one over, but given he was -20 when he won here in 2020, I'm not counting him out just yet.

Should be a fun group to follow.

  18. Woodland birdiepublished at 17:58 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +1 (9)

What touch from Scottie Scheffler on the ninth green. He barely breathes on the ball and it trundles down the slope to a couple of inches. Safe par.

Bob MacIntyre has already hit a lovely chip and run to around five feet and he returns to knock that in.

Meanwhile, Gary Woodland is picking up a shot with a short birdie putt.

About two hours 40 minutes for that front nine.

  19. Postpublished at 17:57 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +2, Knapp +1 (1)

Sam Burns looks purposeful if his body language walking between holes is anything to go by.

A healthy drive down the middle of the fairway at the second leaves the American well positioned to attack the pin.

Cam Smith finds the sand for the second tee shot in succession.

  20. Rose on the rampagepublished at 17:57 BST 10 April

    Rose -4, Spieth -1, Koepka -1 (10)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Here comes Justin Rose! He plays a wonderful shot into the 10th green and leaves a kick-in birdie - his third in four holes as he races up the leaderboard to four under.

Maybe he's just turned the corner now after playing well but getting nothing much early on the first nine, he's just started to see the results as he made the turn and that confidence is showing.

Either that, or it's because my wife had her annual golf bet on Rose to win the Masters and declared "he's choking" a little while ago. It's definitely one of those two things though.
