  1. Hatton's charge continuespublished at 17:56 BST 10 April

    Hatton -3 (12)

    Tyrrell HattonImage source, Getty Images

Golden Bell can make the best golfers in the world look foolish as times but that does not apply in Tyrrell Hatton's case today.

The Englishman whips his tee shot over Rae's Creek and the bunker guarding the front edge of the green to land around five feet from the pin.

It's a wonderful golf shot and is rewarded with a fifth birdie of the day from Hatton, who is on the charge.

  2. Postpublished at 17:54 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +2 (8)

Bob MacIntyre goes flag-hunting from 113 yards out on the par-four ninth. And with a wedge in hand you just know this ball is going to have some spinny action on it. And it does. Too much, in fact. The ball zips off the front right.

Scottie Scheffler's is a touch further left and his ball doesn't grab a slope. A tricky putt coming up for birdie.

Gary Woodland hits the best of the three, knocking his second to about six feet.

  3. Lowry predicts 'toughest Masters in a while'published at 17:51 BST 10 April

    Lowry -2 (17:56 BST)

Shane Lowry is three shots off the lead after an opening-round 70 which had its ups the downs - the highlight being an eagle on the 13th.

But the Irishman thinks the dry forecast means they're in for a real test over the weekend.

"I think this could be the toughest Masters we've played in a while. You look at the forecast. They can do whatever they want with the golf course this weekend," he said.

"I think over the last few years we've had a day every year where it's been raining or it's been heavy rains. It's kind of helped us a little bit, but I think before the week is out, it's going to get very, very crusty around here."

  4. Clark back in the clubhousepublished at 17:50 BST 10 April

    Clark -4 (68)

A fine round of golf from Wyndham Clark sees him finish with a 68 and get back into the clubhouse on four under par.

That's just one off the lead so far but who knows where he'll be come the end of the day - there's a hint of breeze bubbling up and those greens are only going to get tougher as the day goes on.

  5. Burns starts with parpublished at 17:50 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +2, Knapp +1 (1)

Sam Burns with a sumptuous iron on to the green at the first which offers him an early birdie chance.

The American is 16 feet from the hole but two putts for par after underhitting his first effort.

Cam Smith chips nicely out of the sand to leave himself with something a little longer and recovers well to save par while Jake Knapp is also through for par.

  6. What will the cut line be at the Masters?published at 17:49 BST 10 April

The top 50 and ties after the second round will make it through to the weekend at Augusta National - the cut used to include everyone within 10 shots of the leader but that's been changed since 2020.

With still plenty of the day to go the current cut mark would come at four over, which would see Bryson DeChambeau make it bang on the number, but the likes of Jon Rahm and Robert MacIntyre miss out.

There's still a long way to go though but those currently in danger include:

    • +5 Danny Willett
    • +5 Jon Rahm
    • +5 Brian Harman
    • +5 Rasmus Hojgaard
    • +7 Robert MacIntyre
  7. Rose back in it at the turnpublished at 17:42 BST 10 April

    Rose -3, Spieth -1, Koepka -1 (9)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Justin Rose grabs a fine birdie on the ninth to complete what's been a frustrating first nine in style to sit on three under and just two off the lead at the turn.

Rose has a long and quite spikey chat with his caddie Mark 'Fooch' Fulcher about the approach shot, but it all works out well as he stripes a nine iron to within six feet and he makes the putt for a three.

This has been a brilliant lesson in focus by Rose as he's clearly been frustrated on the greens, missing three clear chances, but as he heads down the second nine he's in a great position.

  8. Scheffler gets a shot backpublished at 17:42 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +2 (8)

Robert MacIntyre lofts a high shot from the trees and his ball grabs a slope and meanders back towards the hole, maybe a 15-footer for birdie.

Gary Woodland from the other side of the green skips his third in to around a similar distance.

And I've done Scottie a dis-service. His second shot ended up 18 feet from the hole. This for eagle and to get back to where he started the round. Grazes the right edge. Birdie.

Bob should have got a great read off Scheffler's putt. He did. Just didn't hit it. Par.

Woodland, from 10 feet... not close. Par.

  9. Burns tees offpublished at 17:40 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +2, Knapp +1 (17:32)

Overnight co-leader Sam Burns tees off at the first and belts a 281-yard drive straight as a die down the middle of the fairway.

Fellow American Jake Knapp is a fraction closer to the pin but a little wider while Aussie Cameron Smith, the other player in the group, finds the bunker with his opening shot of the round.

  10. Postpublished at 17:35 BST 10 April

    Scheffler E, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +2 (7)

On to the eighth. A long, uphill, par-five hole. It often yields birdies and eagles though.

Bob MacIntyre is out with his driver, for his second shot from the fairway. It's a wild swipe though and his ball drifts out left and heading towards the trees.

Scottie Scheffler has a cut at the green and hits an absolute beaut, his ball landing on the front of the green and working its way up, pin-high, 30 feet to the right. Eagle chance coming up.

  11. Patience pays off for co-leader Burnspublished at 17:30 BST 10 April

    Burns -5 (17:32 BST)

    Sam BurnsImage source, Reuters

There were two overnight leaders of the Masters - one was spoken about a lot less than the other.

American Sam Burns, 29, posted a career-low Masters round to top the tree, and the two-time Ryder Cup player said his calm mindset made a difference on Thursday.

"I think patience is something that you constantly have to work on. You know, especially as someone who likes to compete and try to win, which unfortunately doesn't happen a lot, I think patience say big part of not just golf, but life.

"We're constantly inconvenienced by something, and so trying to be more patient is good for all of us, especially for me."

  12. Par five scoring crucial to Masters glorypublished at 17:29 BST 10 April

Augusta National 13th hole at the MastersImage source, Getty Images

You have to take care of the par fives at Augusta National if you want to win The Masters, with most Green Jacket winners being among the best scorers on the longer holes during the week.

And in fact most of them do the vast majority of their scoring on the par fives - with only Danny Willett in the last decade doing better on the par threes and fours.

Three players made birdie on all four of the par fives in round one - Russell Henley, Justin Rose and, surprise, surprise, Rory McIlroy.

That's one reason why Rose seemed so heated after missing his putt on eight for a birdie.

  13. Rahm needs big back ninepublished at 17:25 BST 10 April

    Rahm +5, Gotterup -2, Aberg +1 (9)

The projected cut is hovering around the five over par mark. And that's where we find Jon Rahm, who has bogeyed the ninth.

His playing partners both picked up birdies though. Chris Gotterup is now up to within three off the lead as they head off down the 10th and to the bottom part of the course.

  14. Clark goes back-to-back to go one behindpublished at 17:24 BST 10 April

    Clark -4 (16)

    Wyndham ClarkImage source, Getty Images

Wyndham Clark is finishing his round in the same form he started it, as with birdies on 15 and 16 he's powered to four under and just a shot off the lead.

He was only just off the back of the 15th green after two lusty blows, but that green looks firm again and it'll be tough to get balls to stop on that as the day goes on.

He followed that up with a two at 16 after a stunner of a tee shot stuck it stone dead.

  15. Rose ragepublished at 17:21 BST 10 April

    Rose -2, Spieth -1, Koepka -2 (8)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Justin Rose is absolutely fuming after missing yet another makeable birdie putt - I make that three now that he'd have expected to hole - with the one he actually did make coming from a mile away!

There's a big smack of the thigh as Rose lets out some of that frustration that's obviously building, as tee-to-green has been pretty good so he's had chances but not been able to take them.

Especially coming on another par five - he birdied all of them yesterday but is 0-2 so far today.

Brooks Koepka does pick up a birdie on this par five but Jordan Spieth can only laugh as he leaves his birdie try woefully short - and it was a short putt to begin with! That's another one he's looked like he was putting a hand grenade and scared it might go off.

  16. Hatton on a rollpublished at 17:21 BST 10 April

    Hatton -2 (9)

Without wishing to jinx it for him Tyrrell Hatton isn't half playing well today.

Another laser-like approach sets up a chance to pick up another stroke on the ninth and he snaffles his fourth birdie of the day from around 10 feet.

The Englishman is yet to win a major but finished in ties for ninth and 14th in his previous two outings at Augusta National. Could this be the year?

  17. Another Bob birdiepublished at 17:17 BST 10 April

    Scheffler E, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +2 (7)

    MastersImage source, Getty Images

Scottie Scheffler's scrappy round is continuing on the seventh. He finds a greenside bunker with his second shot and splashes out to about seven or eight feet. Another testy par-saver coming up.

Gary Woodland finds the front edge of the green but his outside birdie chance pulls up well short and he's now got work to do to save par.

Bob MacIntyre is in a similar position to Woodland and learns everything, rattling in a 25-footer to creep a little closer to the projected cut line.

Scheffler makes his par putt, Woodland doesn't.

  18. Rai stuck in reversepublished at 17:13 BST 10 April

    Garcia +1, Rai E, Bridgeman E (10)

Back-to-back bogeys for Aaron Rai seems him tumble down the leaderboard sitting on level par for the tournament and just needing to get a grip now and steady the ship.

Augusta National can dump you out of the reckoning in a hurry.

  19. Postpublished at 17:07 BST 10 April

    Im Sung-jae +1 (69)

    Im Sung-jaeImage source, Getty Images

South Korea's Im Sung-jae is in the clubhouse and, with the projected cut line at about three over, looks to have ensured he'll be sticking around for the weekend with a three-under 69 today.

He was four over at the start of play but four birdies on the back nine put his card in decent shape, albeit he frustratingly found the trees down the left on the 18th and took a little bit of gloss off his day with a bogey there.

  20. Scheffler stops the rotpublished at 17:01 BST 10 April

    Scheffler E, MacIntyre +8, Woodland E (6)

Regulation pars all round on the par-three sixth, although Scottie Scheffler, coming off successive bogeys, had one of those five-footers for par that he's often so liable to miss.

A more confident stroke into the centre of the hole this time.
