  1. Rose finally gets a birdiepublished at 16:56 BST 10 April

Justin Rose, finally, makes his first birdie of the day and boy did he need that. It's a long bomb from over 25 feet as well that he topples into the cup for his three - a rare one on the seventh as well with only seven birdies on it today.

He's been playing well, grinding when he needs to but hasn't made a putt so far - until now!

Brooks Koepka makes a bit of a stinker of a bogey here having smoked his drive but then finding the greenside bunker with a wedge from the fairway.

  2. Rai finishes front nine with a bogeypublished at 16:52 BST 10 April

    Garcia +1, Rai -1, Bridgeman E (9)

Not a nice finish to the first nine for Aaron Rai as he drops a shot on the ninth despite a booming drive, as he falls for the old trick on this hole with a front flag of coming up short and seeing it topple back down that devlish false front.

Not an ideal way to hit the turn but he's only level par for the day so nothing too drastically bad so far.

  3. Aberg sliding awaypublished at 16:51 BST 10 April

    Rahm +4, Gotterup -1, Aberg +3 (7)

    Ludvig AbergImage source, Reuters

Another player going backwards is Sweden's Ludvig Aberg. A bogey on six after a visit to a greenside bunker is followed by another dropped shot on the seventh. He can't reach the green in two and then has an almost impossible third after leaving a bunker and a mound between his ball and the hole. You don't want to be leaving yourself 20-foot par putts around this course.

Jon Rahm and Chris Gotterup are safely through those holes in par.

  4. Scheffler back to level parpublished at 16:47 BST 10 April

    Scheffler E, MacIntyre +8, Woodland +1 (5)

Gary Woodland's par putt from 40 feet never threatens the hole but it's a safe par.

Here's Scottie from about 30 feet. And he's just not hit that. I'd have been unhappy with that effort. It's about eight feet short! And that's not a good par putt either. Back-to-back bogeys for the world number one.

Here's Bob from six feet for par. Centre of the cup. No pictures on the scorecard.

  5. Postpublished at 16:45 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +8, Woodland E (4)

Robert MacIntyre airmails the fifth green with an extraordinary miscalculation for his second shot. His ball bounds towards some bushes 20 yards beyond the putting surface but pulls up in time.

From the ridiculous to the sublime though - his third is inch perfect, landing a yard over a bunker and finishing six feet from the hole.

Scottie Scheffler meanwhile is also a little long, but his ball nestles in the fringe of the green.

Gary Woodland has hacked out of the sand but he isn't bold enough with his third shot, which pulls up at the front edge of the green.

  6. Clark still up therepublished at 16:43 BST 10 April

    Clark -2 (13)

Wyndham Clark started like a house on fire and is keeping things tidy despite dropping a shot on the 10th - but he's not too happy with a par on 13.

That's because he muslced it onto the green in two, and although his eagle putt was from a mile away he'll have hoped to leave a kick-in birdie, but instead left one of about 10 feet which he missed.

  7. Stats that don't seem true...published at 16:40 BST 10 April

This is the first Masters to see both Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy sitting in the top 10 after the first round.

Yes, Scheffler hasn't been around too long but it's still one of those that you look at and think surely not.

  8. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 16:38 BST 10 April

    Hatton -1 (7)

Tyrrell Hatton wants his approach into the seventh to sit.

The Englishman looks pretty anxious as his ball is in flight but gets an unexpected surprise when he arrives at the green with his ball just eight feet away from the pin.

From there he takes on a putt that looks like it should track from right to left but actually stays a lot straighter and he judges it well, rolling in for his third birdie of the day.

  9. Postpublished at 16:36 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +8, Woodland E (4)

Gary Woodland lets out a frustrated few words as he watches his ball find a fairway bunker down the fifth.

Scottie Scheffler and Robert MacIntyre both find the centre of the fairway from the tee, which is crucial on this 495-yard par-four hole which culminates in a treacherous green.

  10. Brooks comes up shortpublished at 16:35 BST 10 April

    Rose -1, Spieth -1, Koepka -2 (6)

    Brooks KoepkaImage source, Getty Images

Not by much! Brooks Koepka taps a quick birdie putt at the hole on six and it's bang on line but just running out of puff and finishes right in the jaws.

So it's not three birdies in a row but it is three threes in a row for Koepka and that's good golfing at Augusta National.

There's still nothing happening for Justin Rose who misses his birdie putt, just a half-chance on that one but you have to make some of those to be successful here. He's made nothing on the greens yet.

  11. Birdie for Raipublished at 16:31 BST 10 April

    Garcia +1, Rai -2, Bridgeman E (8)

    Aaron RaiImage source, Reuters

Aaron Rai gets back in touch with the leaders as he makes a birdie on the eighth - with the Wolverhampton man looking to break the Par 3 Contest curse this week.

Rai won the annual Par 3 Contest at Augusta on Wednesday, but in 63 editions of the event nobody has claimed victory and then gone on to win a Green Jacket in the Masters that same week.

In fact, only two Par 3 Contest winners have win the Masters at all afterwards, with Ben Crenshaw and Vijay Singh doing so years after winning the Par 3 Contest.

    Could Rai break the curse?

  12. Scheffler drops a shotpublished at 16:30 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +8, Woodland E (4)

Gary Woodland has a big downhill putt that Scottie Scheffler will be watching the final knockings of with interest.

Woodland's effort grazes Scheffler's ball marker and comes to rest on the left edge of the hole. Terrific attempt. Par.

What has Scheffler learned? It's left edge, but dies away to the right at the end... it's similar to what Justin Rose faced a while back. And it's the same result. Scheffler's ball misses on the right. He can't quite believe it. Shot gone though.

  13. Another birdie for Bobpublished at 16:27 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +8, Woodland E (3)

    Robert McIntyreImage source, Getty Images

After lengthy discussions with his caddie Ted Scott, Scottie Scheffler flicks his ball out of the sand and about a dozen feet past the flag. The ball is on a slope though and starts to trickle slowly backwards - it's almost painful to watch - ending up about eight feet away. Big par putt coming up.

Here's Bob from downtown Augusta. He's on the left edge of the green, maybe 35-40 feet from the hole... and it's in! Back-to-back birdies for the man from Oban.

No hint of any joy in his face though as he acknowledges the cheers.

  14. Here comes Brooks!published at 16:27 BST 10 April

    Rose -1, Spieth -1, Koepka -2 (5)

Brooks Koepka is on a bit of a charge at Augusta National as he rolls in a third birdie of the day to move to two under and just three shots off the pace.

Remember Koepka is a five-time major champion and at one stage was the dominant force in men's golf's big championships - picking up four of those in the space of a couple of years as he went back-to-back at both the US PGA Championship and US Open.

He went off the boil in the last few years but after returning to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf if he gets that major mojo back then watch out!

  15. Postpublished at 16:23 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +9, Woodland E (3)

The par-three fourth is playing 231 yards today, that's about 50 yards longer than it did yesterday. And the officials have tucked the pin just beyond a cavernous bunker protecting the front.

It's a sandy trap that Scottie Scheffler finds with some ease. Gary Woodland and Bob MacIntyre are on the green but not threatening the flag.

  16. Why did LIV golfers struggle?published at 16:21 BST 10 April

Have your say on the Masters

None of the 10 LIV Golf players in the field managed to break par in the first round, with Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm surprisingly struggling after arriving in great form.

So why the struggles? Here's some possible reasons but also send us your thoughts and vote in our poll...

  17. Birdie for Bobpublished at 16:16 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +9, Woodland E (3)

Back on the third and Bob MacIntyre, perhaps with the pressure off, skips a delightful second shot onto the green, using the contours to perfection to set up a birdie.

Scottie Scheffler's second, from just short of the green grabs and holds about 15 feet short of the hole and he's too shy with his birdie try.

Gary Woodland immediately gets one back though after knocking his second shot to three feet and holing out.

  18. Birdie number two for Rahmpublished at 16:13 BST 10 April

    Rahm +4 Gotterup +1, Aberg +1 (5)

    Jon RahmImage source, EPA

Hello Jon Rahm. No birdies in round one, but two already in round two has the Spaniard moving in the right direction.

And what a hole to pick up a shot on - the fifth is a 495-yard brute that plays one of the hardest year after year after year. But Rahm drains a 25-foot birdie putt.

Chris Gotterup is dropping though, while Ludvig Aberg is in for par.

  19. Bogey for Bridgemanpublished at 16:09 BST 10 April

    Garcia +2, Rai -1, Bridgeman E (7)

FedEx Cup leader Jacob Bridgeman drops back to level par with a bogey on the seventh - it's been solid stuff so far but Augusta has just bitten back on the Masters rookie.

  20. Rose hot under the collarpublished at 16:08 BST 10 April

    Rose -1, Spieth -1, Koepka -1 (5)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Justin Rose just cannot believe his birdie putt on four did not drop! It looked in all the way but somehow just tailed off right at the death, with the Englishman tossing his putter up in the air in frustration.

Yes, he did repair the mark it made in the putting surface but the Augusta greenskeepers won't like that one.

That's two near misses for Rose on the last two holes and you can tell this is now really testing his patience.
