  1. Rose back in birdie modepublished at 19:26 BST 10 April

Genius from Justin Rose with a dink of a wedge chipped up onto the 15th green from a really awkward spot just off the right down beyond the bunker.

A wonderful touch sees it roll down the slope pin high and leaves an almost tap-in that even Rose can't miss despite his putting struggles today.

Jordan Spieth misses with his birdie try as he's enduring a day to forget while Brooks Koepka makes a very tidy par save indeed having sprayed his second shot high and wide off the right in among the patrons.

  2. Rahm birdiepublished at 19:25 BST 10 April

    Rahm +4, Gotterup -1, Aberg E (16)

A lifeline for Jon Rahm. The hole on the par-three 16th is in a friendly spot. Yesterday, it was at the top of a slope. Today it's at the bottom of that slope. Yesterday, about 80% of all shots ended up in the vicinity of where the hole is now.

So this should be straightforward for all. Rahmbo finds the green and lets gravity do its work, leaving him with a five-footer for birdie.

Chris Gotterup hits his ball in the perfect spot for yesterday's pin. But that leaves him a slippery putt down the hill and he takes three more shots for a bogey.

  3. Burns goes back to five underpublished at 19:25 BST 10 April

    Burns -5, Smith +5, Knapp E (7)

    Sam BurnsImage source, Reuters

Sam Burns snaffles his first birdie of the day at the seventh.

The American dodges the bunkers with a neat approach shot but still has it all to do with the putter.

On this occasion he nails it to go back to five under.

Get Involved: An Augusta Ryder Cup!?published at 19:23 BST 10 April

'Your Opinions' bannerImage source, BBC Sport

The crowds at the Masters are so respectful - can the USA hold the Ryder Cup there, please?

    Alf

Can you just imagine a Ryder Cup at Augusta National Alf? Actually, I'm not sure I'd like it, might just take something away from The Masters. Saying that, I think a Ryder Cup on one of the Open Championship courses would be interesting, no?

  5. Postpublished at 19:22 BST 10 April

    Hatton -5 (17)

Go, go, go. Just not enough gas on that as Tyrrell Hatton's putt from 12 feet or so to go six under comes up a few inches short.

  6. McIlroy retakes solo lead!published at 19:21 BST 10 April

    McIlroy -6, Young E, Howell +6 (2)

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Reuters

No mistake from Rory McIlroy as he pours his short birdie putt in at the second to hearty acclaim from the gallery!

He's up and running. That's five birdies from five par-fives played for the defending champion this week and he moves one clear of Tyrrell Hatton.

Cameron Young matches McIlroy's four to move back to level par, but it's an untidy six for Mason Howell.

  7. Postpublished at 19:20 BST 10 April

    Reed -4, Fleetwood -1, Bhatia -1 (4)

Patrick Reed has a decent look at birdie on the fourth but a mid-range putt from left to right stays a couple of inches left.

It's going to be pars all round with Tommy Fleetwood again wayward off the tee and having to recover after flying over the green.

  8. DeChambeau birdies thirdpublished at 19:16 BST 10 April

    Fitzpatrick +2, Schauffele -2, DeChambeau +4 (3)

Could this spark a bit of change of fortunes for Bryson DeChambeau?

A beefy tee shot is followed by a composed chip to leave a putt of about six feet. The American duly slots in the putt easy as you like.

  9. Postpublished at 19:15 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -1, MacIntyre +8, Woodland +2 (13)

Scottie Scheffler drops his ball in the appropriately named drop zone and clips his fourth to around 12 feet. A tricky left-to-righter for par and he goes straight at the hole. That was always missing.

It's also a six for Gary Woodland, who followed Scheffler in to the water.

And it's just a par for Robert MacIntyre - like Jon Rahm he too is running out of holes.

  10. McIlroy goes flag-huntingpublished at 19:14 BST 10 April

    McIlroy -5, Young +1, Howell +5 (1)

Rory McIlroy immediately leans left as he uncorks his drive at the downhill par-five second. It flies straight into the bunker, just as it did in last year's final round.

It's just a splash-out lay-up from there to give himself a nice number and good angle, and he plays a beauty from 134 yards!

About four feet down the slope for his first gain of the day.

    Hatton -5 (16)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is Friday, these tournaments are four rounds.

Don't get too excited at this point - expectations will explode for Tyrrell Hatton but it's very difficult to come back and perform again after such a good round.

  12. Postpublished at 19:09 BST 10 April

    Burns -4, Smith +5, Knapp E (6)

After a birdie at the fifth, Sam Burns responds with a confident par at the sixth.

Fellow American Jake Knapp back down to evens after he follows up a promising tee shot with a bold 18-foot putt.

    Nicely done.

  13. Aberg birdie as Rahm misses chancepublished at 19:08 BST 10 April

    Rahm +5, Gotterup -2, Aberg E (15)

Sweden's Ludvig Aberg is back to level par for the tournament after a superbly-judged wedge into the 15th green that bites and spins to about two feet. Birdie time.

It's a missed opportunity for Jon Rahm though - he follows Aberg down the fairway and his wedge finishes around 12 feet long. The birdie putt stays on the green. Time running out for the 2023 champion.

Chris Gotterup also in for par but he's looking good to be around for the weekend.

  14. Birdie for Reedpublished at 19:06 BST 10 April

    Reed -4, Fleetwood -1, Bhatia -1 (2)

    Patrick ReedImage source, Reuters

Patrick Reed moves a shot from the joint lead with a tap-in birdie on the third. The American played that hole so well, with a little pitch into three feet with his second.

His compatriot Akshay Bhatia also cashes in from 10 feet.

Just a par from Tommy Fleetwood, who overcooks a punchy second and runs off the back off the putting surface before some decent scrambling.

The Englishman has only hit one fairway out of three today.

  16. Scottie swimmingpublished at 19:03 BST 10 April

    Scheffler -2, MacIntyre +7, Woodland +1 (12)

Scottie Scheffler finds the middle of the fairway on the sweeping par-five 13th hole with his tee shot. He's got 245 yards to the green and he's taking on the creek that runs in front.

He's looking anxiously after this and with good reason. One bounce on dry land and the next is a splash.

  17. Oh Justin!published at 19:03 BST 10 April

    Rose -4, Spieth E, Koepka -3 (14)

Justin Rose bangs a short birdie putt right through the break and it hits the right edge and lips out as yet another chance goes begging - he'll be having nightmares about his putting stroke if this continues.

He's missed about five putts now that range from easy to makeable and he'd have expected to make three of those at least. Yet he's still just a shot off the lead.

  18. Par for DeChambeaupublished at 19:02 BST 10 April

    Fitzpatrick +2, Schauffele -2, DeChambeau +5 (2)

    Bryson DeChambeauImage source, Reuters

Something to give Bryson DeChambeau a little boost on the par-five second after an early bogey.

He gets out of the bunker but the ball skids on to leave him a tricky 16-foot putt. On this occasion, though, the American nails it.

Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele both follow suit and bag par.

  19. Hatton claims share of leadpublished at 19:00 BST 10 April

    Hatton -5 (16)

Absolutely sublime. Tyrrell Hatton is throwing darts at the moment as he clips into six feet on the par-three 16th.

This for a birdie and a share of the lead...in it drops.

  20. Par start for Rorypublished at 18:58 BST 10 April

    McIlroy -5, Young +1, Howell +5 (1)

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

Rory McIlroy isn't in the fairway at the first but he's only got 107 yards for his second from a clean lie in the first cut on the right after carrying the bunkers.

Despite that, and a decent angle in, he plays away from the pin and will have a lengthy putt for birdie. We've seen a lot of balls peppering that pin today, but not to be for Rory.

Downhill, right to left. Decent effort and he'll take a par. He's solo leader now after that Sam Burns bogey.

Huge crowds following the defending champion, as you'd expect.

Pars, too, for Cameron Young and amateur Mason Howell, who has work to do to make the cut.
