  2. Big miss by Clarkpublished at 19:51 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler E (1)

Wyndham Clark sets up aiming way left on the second, but he bangs his iron shot off the tee straight in that direction, missing the green by a mile.

And luckily for him he's gone so far left that he's blown through the longer fescue and into some regulation low rough.

Scottie Scheffler finds the green and the crowd gives out a huge roar - I don't think they're anti-Clark just more pro-Scheffler and many of them (like us all) are hoping for some drama today.

Wyndham Clark could win his second US Open tonight in just his sixth appearance in the event - only three players won two US Open titles in fewer starts.

Starts needed for two US Open wins:

    • 4 - John McDermott (1911, 1912)
    • 5 - Walter Hagen (1914, 1919)
    • 5 - Ernie Els (1994, 1997)
    • 6 - Lee Trevino (1968, 1971)
    • 6 - Brooks Koepka (2017, 2018)

    Burns -2 (4)

Sam Burns' tail is up, but he finds trouble at the fourth.

Having driven into the rough, he scuttles a low approach up the face of the green and into the bunker.

But his recovery from sand is outstanding and it's a tap-in par to maintain his early momentum.

  6. Morikawa bogey, Fitz birdiepublished at 19:46 BST 21 June

    M Fitzpatrick +2 Morikawa +1 (5)

We join Collin Morikawa chipping out of the greenside bunker at the fifth but it catches him out and he overshoots the putting surface completely.

The stones in these traps have caused real issues this week.

All sorts of gnarly rough out there for the American and his chip back doesn't quite have enough juice and rolls back off the green. Tough, but at least it's a par five and he'll only drop one.

On the plus side, Matt Fitzpatrick claws back one with a timely birdie.

  7. Bogey start for Schefflerpublished at 19:46 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler E (1)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Wyndham Clark plays the first hole beautifully as he sends a wedge sky high with his second and lands it 16 feet from the hole - the birdie putt doesn't drop but it burns the edge and a par is just fine.

Especially as Scottie Scheffler went over the back with his approach and had to play a big flop shot back up onto the putting surface - leaving nine feet - and the putt for par was poor.

That's a bogey for Scheffler as he slips seven behind.

  8. A picture in pink?published at 19:44 BST 21 June

A four-way split of Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas

Pink and white has been a featured combo this week at Shinnecock.

From Brooks Koepka's deckchair attire on Thursday to Scottie Scheffler's more understated horizontal stripes for the final round, it's clearly this season's look.

Justin Thomas was in on the act on Saturday too - those pink trousers causing plenty of second looks as he stumbled down the leaderboard - and Xander Schauffele is in pink too today.

But what do you make of the colours?

Thumbs up if you're a fan.

  10. Bogey for Stevenspublished at 19:41 BST 21 June

    Stevens E, Grillo +1 (2)

After Emiliano Grillo made a bogey at the first, Sam Stevens joins him by carding a bogey on the second as they both start their final rounds in poor fashion.

  11. Rose on the birdie trainpublished at 19:37 BST 21 June

    Rose +1 (13)

Justin Rose is well and truly on the birdie train as he sinks his third in succession and this time from 20 feet.

If he keeps this up he'll be in the top five in a couple of holes time.

Barring a remarkable sequence of events he's unlikely to impact at all on the very top of the leaderboard.

  12. Par for Fleetwoodpublished at 19:36 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood -1, Schauffele +1 (4)

For anyone backing Xander Schauffele to make a move tonight, you’ll be disappointed.

The Californian found the rough off the fourth tee, then a fairway bunker, and it costs him a shot. You’d think he was too far back now.

After consecutive birdies, Tommy Fleetwood plays the hole well and cards a par.

  13. A couple of three-puttspublished at 19:36 BST 21 June

    Theegala E, Kim E (1)

Two fairly workmanlike approaches at the opening hole from Sahith Theegala and Tom Kim and they both have around 30 feet for birdie.

Kim's first putt isn't great and his par effort is a bit of a shocker, if I'm honest.

Theegala hasn't fared much better. A three-jab from the American and that's a pair of opening bogeys.

  14. Could Clark do a Greg Norman?published at 19:36 BST 21 June

    Greg NormanImage source, Getty Images

Twenty-one players have had a lead of six shots or more entering the final round of a major since the Masters started in 1934. The only one who didn't win? Greg Norman.

He memorably collapsed at the 1996 Masters and lost to Nick Faldo by five.

Wyndham Clark will know all about that and will be focused on avoiding the same sort of collapse - but that's the thing about golf, Clark will have had all night and most of today to think about this lead, and crucially think about what it would be like to lose it.

So the job is not done yet. Watch out for some early wobbles to see how his nerves are.

  15. Burns cuts Clark's leadpublished at 19:35 BST 21 June

    Burns -2 (3)

    Now then.

Sam Burns birdied the first, came painfully close at the second and has just rolled in a seven-footer for a three at the difficult par-four third after another stellar shot into the green.

He moves second on his own. Still five shots adrift of Wyndham Clark, but he may be the man to make this interesting.

  16. Final pair tee offpublished at 19:35 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler -1

I know he's got a huge lead, but Wyndham Clark will still have had an uncomfortable night sleeping on it - it'd be hard not to think about what would happen if he somehow threw this away.

He doesn't show too many nerves on the first tee though as he fires a long iron down to the right side of the fairway.

Scottie Scheffler is already down there on the short stuff ater his drive - following the crowd singing happy birthday to him as he turns 30 today.

  18. Why Clark is winningpublished at 19:33 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler -1 (19:30 BST)

    Clark v Scheffler ranks for metrics. Off tee 14 v 5, tee to green 2 v 4, approach 7 v 14, around green 4 v 16, putting 2 v 35

Wyndham Clark has undeniably been exceptional this week - it shows in his handsome lead - and his game has been consistent across his entire bag.

As we've just said, world number one Scottie Scheffler's weakest area has been his putting. But if he can improve that early on today and land a few punches on the green, maybe this can get interesting.

  19. Can Scottie catch Clark?published at 19:29 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler -1 (19:30 BST)

    US OpenImage source, Getty Images

Wyndham Clark has great all around stats but two things that stood out yesterday were his putting and also his aggressive attitude despite sitting on a healthy lead.

His putter got him out of jail all day long, but also on some tricky chips he neever took the safe, easy option of knocking it to 20 feet and taking his medicine, he went for the high tariff shots to stick it close and more often than not pulled it off.

Then there was that eagle on 16, which was breathtaking - bit of a shame hardly anyone was there to see it by then...

Scottie Scheffler found some of his best iron play again yesterday - but he badly needs his very best on the greens to stand a chance. He missed a couple of short putts last night that cost him two shots, two shots that could've put an entirely different complexion on things.

Still, a fast start and who knows?
