  1. Clark well widepublished at 20:21 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark and caddie David Pelekoudas talk about a "good process" after every chat. Well, the process on the fourth may have been good but the approach out of the bunker wasn't, as the ball balloons off to the right and even flies over the crowd and onto a buggy path.

Would've liked a shout of "fore" there from Clark as his ball flew towards the fans - who then scatter to try and crowd around the golf ball. Always makes me laugh when they do that.

  2. Burns nearly bins anotherpublished at 20:20 BST 21 June

    Burns -3 (6)

Danger man Sam Burns sensibly shoots away from the flag at the sixth, which is perched precariously close to a bunker.

He's left with a 35-footer and he gives it a good run! It comes up a couple of oscillations shy and he settles for par.

As they say over in the States, this boy can really roll his potato.

  3. Theegala double after eventful holepublished at 20:19 BST 21 June

    Theegala +1, Kim E (4)

After his trials and tribulations back down the fairway, Sahith Theegala runs up a double bogey on the fourth.

He'll be tightening his grip next time he visits the fescue...

  4. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 20:18 BST 21 June

    Hatton +1 (15)

Tyrrell Hatton currently ranks first for strokes gained courtesy of his short game.

And the Englishman shows why at the 15th, zipping in to eight feet and then dispatching the birdie putt to move back to three under for today after a bogey on the 14th.

  5. Postpublished at 20:16 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark got away with a few yesterday - but he also gutsied his way around. He played some supreme up-and-downs and some decent bunker shots too.

Can he do it again today? He probably can't with the pressure on so he doesn't need to miss many fairways.

  6. Fine Father's Day finish for Russellpublished at 20:16 BST 21 June

    Russell +7 (70)

    US OpenImage source, Getty Images

We had a lovely touch earlier on with 17-year-old amateur Miles Russell, as he switched caddies on the 18th hole - with his regular bagman handing over the bib to his dad!

So on Father's Day, dad Joe could accompany his teenage son, the second-youngest man to make the cut at the US Open since World War II, and walk up onto the 18th green as the youngest player in the field putted out to finish on a fine seven over.

It's been a superb performance by Russell, competing in the US Open before he's even started his college golf career! And that emotional moment on the last will no doubt be a great memory for both father and son.

  7. Theegala's club goes flying!published at 20:14 BST 21 June

    Theegala -1 (3)

    What have we just witnessed?!

Sahith Theegala is down deep in the fescue at the fourth. He gives it an almighty lash but forgets to hold on to his club!

His iron goes flying behind him and towards the gallery. It doesn't look like anyone got hurt, but he turns and apologises anyway. You certainly don't expect to be in harm's way when you're standing behind a player!

Joaquinn Niemann was hit with a two-shot penalty for petulantly tossing his club after a bad shot earlier this week, but I think the USGA will let Theegala off for that one.

    Wild scenes.

  8. Fleetwood makes par at 6published at 20:13 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood -1, Schauffele E (6)

Fine effort from downtown at the seventh for Tommy Fleetwood.

It doesn't drop though and he'll have to be content with a par.

    Par too for Xander Schauffele.

  9. Pars for final pairpublished at 20:13 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Scottie Scheffler does make a nine footer this time, to save his par on the third after he pushed a bit too hard with his second and ended up finding the bunker.

Wyndham Clark had a half chance for a birdie but the putt just wandered down by the side of the hole.

    Two pars.

It's a classic US Open day.

The golden rough frames these holes beautifully well and that wind, as it has done all week, is going to play a big part in deciding today.

Round at the Old Course for my 18th, St Andrews. Turn up. Get added to a group. Played with an American, a Canadian and a Swede. Greatest. Day. Ever. Sorry wife and kids.

    Tim, Bangor

Spent my 30th on the island of Molokai, getting up very early to watch Andy Murray win his Wimbledon semi-final. I later played the Ironwood Hills 9-holer atop the small island. I may as well have been playing tennis based on my scorecard.

    Baz, Aberdeen

Vegas for my 30th, helicopter to the Grand Canyon, Tyson Fury fight, party all night. Skint ever since. Worth it

  12. Morikawa makes latest birdiepublished at 20:07 BST 21 June

    M Fitzpatrick +3, Morikawa E (7)

    Collin MorikawaImage source, Getty Images

A third birdie of the round for Collin Morikawa at the seventh thanks to a booming 30-foot putt.

It's only enough to put him back at level par for the tournament given the two bogeys he's thrown in there.

    But he's clinging on.

  13. Burns halves Clark's leadpublished at 20:04 BST 21 June

    Burns -3 (5)

Sam Burns drives into the fescue at the par-five fifth and takes his medicine, chopping back into position. Wedge in hand, his third is badly underhit.

He's left with 26 feet for birdie...but he sinks it! Brilliant putt.

Burns moves three under for the day through five holes. Excellent start - and Wyndham Clark's lead has been halved.

Don't switch over to the World Cup yet, folks!

  15. Back in the groovepublished at 19:59 BST 21 June

    Theegala -1, Kim -1 (3)

    What a putt!

Sahith Theegala gets the shot he dropped at the first back at the third. And in some style, too, pouring a 20-foot right-to-left putt right into the heart.

And Tom Kim follows him in! These two have clearly calmed the nerves and are ready to play some golf now.

  16. Bogey for Clarkpublished at 19:58 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (2)

Wyndham Clark chips it over to and off the green from the rough, but plays a nice putt from just off the edge and then finishes it off with a four footer for par.

As with a few yesterday the ball didn't go in clean, wiping its feet first before dropping, but they all count and he limits the damage to just one shot.

Scottie Scheffler hits a lovely putt but it just burns the egde of the hole so he can't complete a two-shot swing, but he is back to 'just' the six shots behind he started the day.

We have had a big mover up the leaderboard today in the form of America's JT Poston.

A winner last time out in a play-off against Ryan Gerard at the signature PGA Tour event at Memorial, he's -3 through nine holes and up to level par for the tournament.

I am soo sad. I went to the driving range for my 30th. Hit 200 balls, went home and opened my presents. One of which was a box of eggs. No need to reply - I know a box of eggs is random

    Steve, Newport Pagnell

    Actually, I think that's a cracking gift.

    ...

    I'll get my coat.

  19. Fleetwood misses birdie chancepublished at 19:55 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood -1, Schauffele E (5)

Really nicely judged from Tommy Fleetwood at the fifth having found himself chipping his third shot from off the green.

In it dances and comes up inside five feet. Oh but he's rolled his putt around the rim and missed. Huge birdie chance goes.

Xander Schauffele does convert though and is back to level par for his day.

  20. Clark's puzzling major formpublished at 19:54 BST 21 June

    Clark -7, Scheffler E (1)

    US Open

It really is all or nothing for Wyndham Clark in the majors, who has barely troubled the scorers besides his US Open win in 2023.

Joint fourth in last year's Open at Royal Portrush was his only other top 10 in 18 major appearances before this week at Shinnecock Hills.

He's even only made the cut half of the time, and usually bottom half of those to complete all four rounds when he does make the weekend.

And yet, he's pretty likely to end the evening with two US Open titles in his pocket - taking down Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to win them - extraordinary!
