    Hatton +1 (67)

Tyrrell Hatton finishes his round with a bogey. It's been a good fightback from the Englishman today, who will sign for a three-under 67 to leave him at one over for the championship.

His opening-round 74 and a 72 on Saturday, ultimately dashed any hopes he had of winning his first major.

    Burns -4 (8)

Sam Burns on the tee at nine. Smokes it.

However, from 183 yards, he catches too much turf and his ball nestles in the rough short of the green.

Burns is the only one making Wyndham Clark sweat. A bogey here would be a real momentum-stuffer.

  3. Fleetwood turns at level parpublished at 20:52 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood E, Schauffele +1 (9)

Tommy Fleetwood ekes out a chance for birdie at the ninth hole but from 19 feet, he's knocked it to within 10 inches.

He'll make the turn at level par.

  4. Two-shot swing as Clark bogeyspublished at 20:50 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (5)

Wyndham Clark makes a bogey and Scottie Scheffler taps in a tiddler for a birdie to cut his gap to the leader down to four - did it just get interesting?

If Clark looks on the bright side he only dropped one shot, if he'd done that on a par four then it'd be a different story - and it was perhaps more the choice of shot there then the execution.

All of a sudden, this US Open is on.

It's not going to be the cakewalk for Wyndham Clark that most people were anticipating.

  7. Try that again!published at 20:46 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (4)

Oh no! Wyndham Clark goes for a bump and run up the slope back to the fifth green, but he doesn't give it enough juice and the ball stops short and comes rolling back down the hill!

He tries the same shot again and this time he gets up and hill but almost pumps it off the other side!

He still has a putt for par, but it's a long one...

  8. Brilliant Burns moves two backpublished at 20:43 BST 21 June

    HOLD THE PHONE.

Sam Burns from way downtown at the eighth! He wasn't overly enamoured with his approach. It was admittedly safe, but that's no matter when you can drop a 50-footer like that!

    He's two back.

  9. Clark goes longpublished at 20:40 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (4)

Another missed green for Wyndham Clark as he goes long off the back of the fifth - it may not be too bad as Tommy Fleetwood knocked it close from there earlier, although he missed the putt for birdie!

Scottie Scheffler gets a good lesson off Clark's shot and he managed to hit the green, leaving just under 40 feet for eagle.

  10. Grillo goes back-to-backpublished at 20:39 BST 21 June

    Stevens +1, Grillo -1 (6)

Two birdies in two holes for Emiliano Grillo as he dives under par for the tournament after six holes - and the Argentinian will be trying to emulate his big hero Lionel Messi and get a hat-trick at the next.

Nothing much positive happening for Sam Stevens today - he's two over for his round and one over for the US Open.

    Theegala +1, Kim E (5)

The fifth has coughed up so many birdies and eagles this week but Sahith Theegala and Tom Kim take five apiece.

This group needs a spark. And fast.

We saw Wyndham Clark yesterday get a pretty nice free drop after going miles off target, and ending up with a better lie.

Is that a rule that should change?

We've even seen players being able to drop out of the rough and onto the fairway just because there's a drain near their stance or a TV tower in their way - should they have to drop it in a similar lie?

What about signing scorecards in these huge pro events? It always makes me chuckle when Scottie Scheffler has to count up his score and sign a piece of paper after a round where every shot has been tracked and measured to the nearest inch so everyone's fully aware of his score.

And what about players now getting penalties for throwing clubs?

    Clark -6 (4)

    Nial Foster
BBC Sport NI at Shinnecock Hills

Wyndham Clark found the cart path at the fourth but showed the sort of calmness that wins U.S. Opens, draining a superb putt to save par.

A year ago, he made his mark on a locker room at Oakmont. This week at Shinnecock Hills, he’s looking far more composed.

Chasing the chance to etch his name onto the trophy for a second time, he’d be welcome to leave his mark in the Shinnecock locker room, too.

Preferably with a pen this time.

  14. Par for Fleetwood, bogey for Schauffelepublished at 20:35 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood E, Schauffele E (8)

Excellent from Tommy Fleetwood after finding the bunker off the eighth tee.

He's got himself out of trouble though and is able to roll in a steady par putt from four feet.

No such outcome for Xander Schauffele though as he ends up three-putting from 45 feet and coughs up a shot.

    Hatton E (16)

Tyrrell Hatton goes up into a tie for fifth as he moves four under for today with yet another birdie on the 16th.

The Englishman has not found the green from off the tee on the 17th though, so surely a fourth birdie in five holes is off the cards here.

  16. Burns' bunker brilliancepublished at 20:30 BST 21 June

    Burns -3, Mitchell -1 (7)

    Don't you dare!

Sam Burns takes a bold line at the par-three seventh. His ball carries the bunker and thinks about staying on the dancefloor before deciding to meander down the slope and into the trap.

Thump! Cracking bunker shot. Four feet for par. Rattles it in. Stays three back.

Keith Mitchell thought he'd made a 30-footer but it kisses the right edge and stays above ground. Six pars and a birdie for Mitchell so far. He ain't going anyway.

  17. 'Got away with one'published at 20:29 BST 21 June

    Clark -6 (4)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on 5 Live

Well thats an amazing four. He didn't hit a shot - poor tee shot, horrible second, average third. He's got away with one.

When he won the previous US Open, he got it up and down from all over the place.

Is in the same vein here.

  18. Clark sinks it!published at 20:29 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (4)

Wouldn't you just know it! Wyndham Clark takes his time and looks a bit twitchy, but he hits his putt straight and true and in she goes for a huge par.

That could've been so much worse with that second shot - he could hit one on another hole and easily make six, but that four could be massive come the end of the day.

Scottie Scheffler also makes a par but that four from Clark must have taken the air out of his tyres a bit as he'd have thought he was going to close the gap there.

  19. Lucky breakpublished at 20:25 BST 21 June

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark gets a sizeable chunk of fortune as he's got a clean lie on a bare area of turf from a high traffic zone of fans. If he sprays it wide on a different hole with fescue surrounds that would've been 10 times worse.

He gets a clean contact on it and hits the green leaving 15 feet for his par, and with his putter this week....

  20. Bogey for Fleetwoodpublished at 20:24 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood E, Schauffele E (7)

This feels like an important par putt for Tommy Fleetwood at the seventh to stay somewhat in the mix.

He almost holed his bunker shot but instead has seven feet to navigate.

Urgh, he's missed it. That is a momentum sapper.
