  1. How did that miss?published at 22:31 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (13)

Scottie Scheffler's putt looks in for all the world, until it's not! It just runs out of steam and takes a late break away to the right and Scheffler just can't believe it - he really is running out of holes and running out of time to catch Wyndham Clark.

The crowds aren't behind him by any stretch of the imagination. They weren't yesterday.

I think he's seen as a bit of a golf bad boy. They love a champion, they want a contest and they want Scottie Scheffler up there. He's getting all the support.

It's very muted for Wyndham Clark.

    Burns -2, Mitchell -1 (15)

Right. Sam Burns has found the fairway at the beastly par-five 16th. Into the wind, this 604-yarder is well out of reach in two but he manufactures a solid second to leave himself in a position to attack.

Steady Eddie Keith Mitchell is also in good shape in two. A couple of birdies coming up?

  4. Birdie for Fleetwood at 16published at 22:27 BST 21 June

    Fleetwood +1 (16)

Got a nice positive update for you on Tommy Fleetwood, who is up at 16 and has rolled in his first birdie since the third hole.

Back then, we all got a little excited about a Sunday charge from the Southport native. It hasn't happened unfortunately, but he is back into the top 10.

It's swinging in momentum - and it looks like it has swung back in favour of Wyndham Clark.

  7. Another one slides pastpublished at 22:20 BST 21 June

    Kim -1 (13)

Tom Kim keeps giving himself good opportunities.

He's 20 feet away for a birdie on 13. This would move him into a tie for second alongside Sam Burns, but he misses it left.

Someone from the chasing pack needs to find a second wind to make things uncomfortable for Wyndham Clark again.

  8. What's left?published at 22:20 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (12)

The final six holes - 13 and 16 playing under par

With one third of the round to come, Wyndham Clark is in a commanding position.

    And scoring opportunities still exist.

He probably just needs to hold tight here.

I am surprised Scottie Schffler didn’t hit that with more authority.

It was never really running at the hole.

  10. Par for Clark - now leads by threepublished at 22:19 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (12)

Scottie Scheffler just misses with his birdie putt as it fades off to the right, but Wyndham Clark makes too much of an overcorrection and his effort misses to the left.

Par is good enough for Clark though as Scheffler's running out of holes now to catch him - and Burns making that bogey sees Clark increase his lead to three.

    A Fitzpatrick +5 (73)

Alex Fitzpatrick concludes his US Open debut in style with a 25-foot puut for birdie on the 18th.

The Englishma has not really ever been able to get any momentum today and that is reflected by a three-over 73 but as it stands he sits in tie for 24th just one stroke behind big brother Matt. So he could yet win some sibling bragging rights.

  12. Burns misses short par puttpublished at 22:17 BST 21 June

    Burns -2, Mitchell -1 (15)

Sam Burns goes long at 15. It's been an expensive miss for many a challenger this week, but he plays a beauty back down the slope.

But then misses the five-footer coming back!

Oh dear. That could prove fatal, especially with the leader seemingly steadying the ship.

  13. Great shotpublished at 22:17 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (11)

Wonderful shot from Wyndham Clark on the 12th as he hacks the ball out of some juicy green rough but he must have made clean contact as there's a bit of control as it lands softly and the green and just rolls past the flag.

And crucial right in front of Scottie Scheffler's ball so he'll get a brilliant read off his putt - you fancy him to make that.

  14. 'Shot myself out of the tournament'published at 22:15 BST 21 June

    McIlroy +6 (73)

    Media caption,

'Shinnecock won the battle over me' - McIlroy

A disappointed Rory McIlroy has been reflecting on his final round of 73: "I think it won the battle over me at this point. I think looking back on the entire week, I'll obviously rue the back nine yesterday. I got myself to two under par for the tournament and then the wheels came off and played a really bad back nine. I sort of shot myself out of the tournament then. Obviously, I was really disappointed coming away from the course last night.

"You try to come out here today positive and you try to muster up the energy to put a good one in there, but [after] a couple of bogeys on the front nine, I was just trying to race my way to the 18th green."

On his upcoming plans: "I'll be playing some links golf this week probably. It's my favorite time of the year to go back home and play the Open, and I get to spend a bit of time back there.

"This was not too dissimilar to an Open Championship in terms of how the golf course started to play over the weekend, but a bit of links golf over the next couple weeks will be nice."

  15. Two parspublished at 22:08 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (11)

Scottie Scheffler wraps up his par on 11 and when Wyndham Clark misses a birdie putt there's a few cheers from the fans in the grandstand - certainly more noise than when Clark finishes it off for his par.

It's clear Scheffler is the favourite but also that Clark is the villain - is it just because the fans want to see a Scheffler Grand Slam? Is it Clark's locker-smashing behaviour at Oakmont last year?

Who knows, but it's got to be tough for Clark hearing, or not hearing, this now.

  16. Postpublished at 22:08 BST 21 June

    Kim -1 (12)

Tom Kim's driven into the fescue at 12, but that's a glorious effort with his second. He cries "sit!" and the ball listens, fizzing through the fringe but coming to rest around 25 feet away.

The putt's a bit shy but the South Korean is keeping himself in this admirably.

    Still in with a shout.

  17. No birdie for Burnspublished at 22:05 BST 21 June

    Burns -3, Mitchell -1 (14)

    Sam BurnsImage source, Getty Images

Sam Burns wallops a 333-yard drive down the 524-yard par-four 14th and his second isn't too shabby either!

A smart shot, he lands short and banks on a firm first bounce. It doesn't quite make it all the way back there, but he'll have an uphill 20-footer for birdie.

One of the deadliest putters around, can he roll one in when he really needs it? No! It's just short and right.

    Only four holes remaining.

  18. Poston wraps up excellent roundpublished at 22:02 BST 21 June

    Poston E (67)

    JT PostonImage source, Getty Images

On the 18th green, JT Poston is completing his excellent round of 67 to post a clubhouse target at level par.

That is five behind the leader on the course Wyndham Clark but it is something to be shot at.

  19. Two birdies - one silentpublished at 21:58 BST 21 June

    Clark -5, Scheffler -1 (10)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Scottie Scheffler finally finds a putt, and it's a 16 footer on the 10th for a birdie that dips him back under par, and just three shots behind.

But not for long! Wyndham Clark zipped in a wedge with spin that finished up just a couple of feet away from the hole.

The crowd raised the roof when Scheffler knocked his in, but when Clark responded with his three there was almost silence, with a few polite claps around the green - it's becoming quite an uncomfortable situation now.

I’d say Clark is going to tumble and Sam Burns or Scottie will win it. As much as I would like Clark to win (I met him) I just don’t think he will hang on to it.
