It is absolutely a Noah's Ark, it is the perfect top 10, arranged in their team orders and what does that tell us?

It tells us that there is a maximum pace that you can get out of a team or a car and the drivers are maximising that.

There is a divide between each team and whether it will stay like that after the final run is unlikely.

The gap between Kimi Antonelli and George Russell is 0.096 seconds, with Lewis Hamilton two tenths back on the 19-year-old title leader.

Antonelli, being out first, is going for a timed lap now. Can the teenager beat the home favourites at this famous circuit?

The thing with Kimi Antonelli is, it is all coming so easily to him or it seems to be. It is just following every time he gets into the car. Russell seems to force it more.

The drivers file out of the pit lane and get ready for the final shot of glory in this Saturday qualifying session at Silverstone.

Kimi Antonelli has provisional pole in his pocket for now but the Italian wants to know from his Mercedes pit wall why he is the first car out on track?

Lewis Hamilton puts his Ferrari to the head of the pack in from his home crowd but the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli looks like he has the pace to beat the seven-time world champion - and he does!

George Russell would love a third pole position in a row but while he does do enough to go on to the front row and jump Hamilton, he can't beat Antonelli to the front-row spot.

Time to beat is a 1:28.385.

The fans stand up and cheers as Oscar Piastri is the first driver to put down a marker in Q3 - 1:29.231 for the Australian.

World champion Lando Norris is up next but he can't beat his McLaren team-mate and goes second on the timesheets.

I have my licence to ride my bike here at Silverstone, you have to wear a wristband if you have a bicycle. It is really hard to get that. You have to have won the world championship and the British Grand Prix to get one.

We might have to wait to see Charles Leclerc out on track in Q3, as apparently he's asking his Ferrari crew can he just nip to the loo. Be quick.

Oscar Piastri is out early and has gone purple in the opening sector. The Australian if fighting the car slightly out there.

McLaren are not in a happy place with Piastri the fastest in seventh, 0.7 off the pace. They have not been feeling good all weekend, McLaren. Norris finished third in the sprint but that was founded on a great first lap from sixth on the grid. It feels like they have fallen back a bit more compared to the other top four.

The McLarens are lacking an edge in this qualifying session so far but CEO Zak Brown, sitting on the pit wall, tells Sky Sports there might be "a couple of tenths left to come". The American does sympathise with his drivers, though, adding: "But I'm sure it's not fun in the car."

    Here we go then.

I think that is a bit of a statement lap from Kimi Antonelli. I saw him going through the last few corners. He was properly committed. I think he just needs to find out where the limits are and he is preparing himself for Q3, looking strong indeed.
