  5. Three changes for Terriers; as you were for Bluebirdspublished at 19:41 BST 14 April

    Huddersfield v Cardiff (19:45 BST)

Interim boss Jon Stead has made three changes to the Terriers team which was pegged back in dramatic fashion to draw 3-3 with Wycombe on Saturday.

Jak Alnwick is handed a start in goal after replacing Lee Nicholls midway through the second half on Saturday, with Nicholls missing out, as does Lyndon Gooch.

Lasse Sorensen and David Kasumu come in with Alfie May dropping to the bench.

Why change a winning team? Brian Barry-Murphy doesn't think you should, so has picked the same Bluebirds XI which beat Bolton last time out, though Gabriel Osho is back on the bench after suspension.

Is the Cardiff wobble over, just in time?

The Bluebirds beat fourth-place Bolton 2-0 on Saturday to end a run of three home games without a win, or a goal, and had just two wins in their past eight.

Results elsewhere gave them a boost and means a win for Brian Barry-Murphy's side tonight, coupled with fifth-placed Stockport dropping points tomorrow night at Wimbledon, would see City bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

"The reality when you win a game of the magnitude (of Saturday), and the games are running out, it's a really healthy place to be," said Barry-Murphy.

"I couldn't care less [where we win promotion]. We have to be so focused on our performance. We can't think about anything else."

Cardiff have lost just one of their past 10 on the road but it's a big night for the Terriers too, however, as interim head coach Jon Stead knows a win is needed to keep the pressure on in the hunt for a play-off place and they have won two of the past three home games against the Bluebirds.

  7. Trotters swap four; Boro make two changespublished at 19:37 BST 14 April

    Bolton v Stevenage (19:45 BST)

Steven Schumacher has made four changes to the Trotters team which went down 2-0 at Cardiff on Saturday.

Christian Forino, Ruben Rodrigues, Johnny Kenny and Amario Cozier-Duberry all come in.

Cyrus Christie, Max Conway, Kyle Dempsey and Mason Burstow all drop to the bench.

Alex Revell has made two changes to the Boro XI which won 1-0 at Bradford on Saturday.

Dan Sweeney and Louis Thompson come in with Lewis Freestone missing out and Matt Phillips named among the substitutes.

Fourth against sixth in the final three weeks of the League One season, this is what the business end is all about.

Bolton's hopes of automatic promotion have faded off a run of one win in six and their final four games are against sides in, or hoping to be in the play-offs next month.

The Trotters are, however, unbeaten in eight at home since the turn of the year, though three of the past four have been draws, and Steven Schumacher's men have lost just one of their 20 home games this season, earning 43 points.

Stevenage have got back to their early season form, taking 13 points from their past six games and losing just one, to the only goal they have conceded in that run.

Boro have, however, lost four of their past six midweek games on the road and another tonight would leave the door open for the chasing pack and go a long way to securing Bolton's top-six spot.

  9. Millers' fate may be sealed at Wigan, Orient aim to pull clearpublished at 19:33 BST 14 April

We could be waving goodbye to one team’s League One status tonight – but it won’t be bottom side Port Vale.

Vale’s already fragile prospects of avoiding an immediate return to the fourth tier could take a further knock if they lose at home to Barnsley, but their FA Cup adventure has left them with a backlog of six more games after this evening.

Instead, it’s Rotherham – a Championship side only two years ago – who could plummet into the basement with defeat to Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium.

Gary Caldwell’s men, who are aiming for a third successive win, still need points to rubber-stamp their own League One status for next season and are unbeaten in their last 12 league meetings with the not so merry Millers.

Leyton Orient could also take a sizeable step towards securing survival if they can arrest their recent slump at home to Mansfield.

Orient, who are 19th and three points above the dotted line, won four games in a row to climb away from danger during March, but are winless in their last four since then.

  10. Bluebirds aiming to fly back to Championshippublished at 19:31 BST 14 April

    League One

Big couple of nights coming up in League One.

If Cardiff can win at Huddersfield tonight they will be promoted back to the Championship at the first time of asking tomorrow night, should Stockport fail to win at AFC Wimbledon.

However, defeat for the Bluebirds would leave Lincoln needing just a point at Stevenage on Saturday to secure the League One title.

At the other end of the table, although both look doomed, neither basement-boys Port Vale, nor second-bottom Northampton can be relegated tonight, however third-bottom Rotherham would go down, should they lose at Wigan.

Barnsley can ensure survival with a win at Vale tonight while the Latics would be as good as safe if they beat Rotherham while the winner of Leyton Orient v Mansfield will also fancy their chances of avoiding the drop.

The play-off race is bubbling away nicely though sixth-placed Stevenage would make things far harder for the chasing pack if they can pick up a win at fourth-placed Bolton and, should that happen, Huddersfield, in eighth, really need a result against Cardiff to keep their faint hopes alive.

Little bit of League Two on a Tuesday night, John Terry? Why not.

The former Chelsea and England defender has rocked up at Colchester this evening to witness the U's encounter with Accrington and seems to be getting an enthusiastic welcome.

Terry, of course, has been strongly mentioned this week in rumours of a consortium bidding to take over the Essex club and his presence at tonight's game would seem to add some fuel to those

Truth be told, there's little riding on the game, with both teams marooned in the safety of mid-table, but maybe the home side at least will be inspired by Terry's arrival.

  13. Stirk back for Spireites, Mariners unchangedpublished at 19:25 BST 14 April

Midfielder Ryan Stirk returns to the Chesterfield starting line-up after missing their 1-1 draw against Tranmere on Saturday with a groin injury.

Stirk is one of three changes made by Spireites boss Paul Cook, with Lewis Gordon and Liam Mandeville also included. Malik Owolabi-Belewu, Dilan Markanday and James Berry all drop to the bench.

Meanwhile, Grimsby field an unchanged side from their 3-2 victory over Crewe at the weekend. Forward Jason Svanthorsson returns among the substitutes.

  14. Huge play-off showdown in fourth tierpublished at 19:23 BST 14 April

    Chesterfield v Grimsby (19:45 BST)

The game of the night in League Two, with all due respect to Barrow and Oldham, pits seventh-placed Chesterfield and eighth-placed Grimsby together in a play-off showdown.

Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to lowly Tranmere ended a run of three straight 1-0 wins for Paul Cook's men.

The Spireites could open up a four-point cushion with a win, though Grimsby do have a game in hand and a better goal difference, and would whittle the play-off chasing chasing pack down into the bargain.

On Saturday afternoon the Mariners made it four wins in five games - either side of a shock defeat by Harrogate - with a 3-2 success against Crewe.

Dave Artell's side have lost on three of their past four visits to Chesterfield but arrive tonight on a run of six clean sheets in eight away games from which they secured 16 points.

    One not to miss!

  15. Bluebirds seek Oldham win to boost survival hopespublished at 19:21 BST 14 April

In some ways, it’s a simple formula for Barrow – when they find the net at Holker Street, they win. And the Bluebirds badly need to do just that tonight.

Four points adrift of 22nd-placed Newport, the Cumbrians have registered fewer goals on home turf – a meagre 13 – than any other side in the division, drawing a blank in six of their past eight.

The two exceptions, however, were victories over Colchester and league leaders Bromley and another three points would narrow the gap to Newport – who incidentally are their visitors on the final day of the season.

Until recently, tonight’s opponents Oldham seemed to be gaining a head of steam in their charge for the play-offs after racking up five straight wins.

The Latics have begun to drift lately with just one success in their past four games, but victory would lift them to ninth place, with seventh still very much on their radar.

Elsewhere, it’s all about playing for pride and building for next season as Cheltenham, in 19th place but already safe from relegation, take on Gillingham, who are two places above them.

    League Two

What a pivotal night this could be in the fourth tier.

Three of the four play-off berths look fairly secure but the race for seventh could not be hotter.

Chesterfield are the current incumbents but face the side a point below them, with a game in hand and a better goal difference, Grimsby.

Should the Spireites win, Walsall's already slim hopes of a play-off return would be ended while Colchester would need a mathematical miracle to make it and Barnet, Crewe and Oldham's hopes would be further dented too.

In the basement battle, second-bottom Barrow will aim to move within a point of Newport and safety as they host Oldham, aiming to crush the Latics's hopes of a top-six finish into the bargain.

    Good evening!

Isn't there something just magical about mid-April in the UK?

Nothing to do with the lighter evenings or the need to take sunglasses and an umbrella whenever you leave the house, no, this is the time of year when games in hand in the EFL are turned into points on the board, or not, as the case may be.

We have thrilling promotion races and relegation scraps in both League One and Two this season, but until the numbers in the games played column are uniform, nobody can be really sure what they need to do.

Which is where tonight comes in. We have nine make-up games which will help to shape the tables as we hurtle headlong towards the final fortnight of the regular season.

Oh, and former England and Chelsea captain John Terry is at Colchester amid reports he is part of a consortium in talks to take over the club.

Get yourself settled, kick-off is 30 minutes away and we have plenty to get through to bring you up to speed.
