Coventry cannot get out of their own half at the moment. Kieran McKenna must be chuffed with what he's seen from his Ipswich side so far. Frank Lampard is animated on the touchline.

Hoping Haji Wright has a good game tonight. He's got all the attributes to be a decent Premier League striker, except work-rate. Hoping he nabs a tap-in tonight and it relights his fire!

The Ipswich corner is cleared by Coventry but drops towards Jack Taylor on the right side of the area but he can only send his attempt high into the stand behind the goal.

This is a good start from Ipswich.

They are without question the team that are best settled into the game.

  7. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Ipswich

Ipswich will do well to take the sting out of this game and try and dampen down a raucous atmosphere.

They've made a pretty decent start to be fair, moving it about well. Coventry are forced to shovel away another ball into the box before Town win a second corner of the evening.

  8. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Ipswich

Ipswich move the ball about in a tidy fashion inside the Coventry half and eventually get a cross into Ivan Azon who guides a header on target but it's lacking in power and straight at Sky Blues keeper Carl Rushworth.

  9. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Ipswich

Ipswich look to break forward but the ball strikes referee Anthony Backhouse and it forces the game to halt, much to the frustration of both sides.

    Away we go again.

    Coventry 0-0 Ipswich

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

At this early stage, Ipswich are taking as much time as they can. It seems like they're going to try and make the game as short as possible.

Any time it goes out they're taking their time to get the ball back in.

  11. Postpublished at 7 mins

In comes the corner for Ipswich but Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth does well to rise above everyone and make the catch at the far post.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Ipswich

Not a lot to shout about in terms of goalmouth action in the opening six minutes or so. You get the feeling that might suit Ipswich.

Just as I say that, the visitors win a corner on the right. The first of the night.

  13. Postpublished at 4 mins

Every break of the ball and every throw-in for Coventry is being loudly cheered on by the home fans.

The CBS Arena's PA system is on 11 at the moment as the last of the stragglers make their way to their seats.

I say stragglers... with this being an 18:00 kick-off, and me coaching my son's under-7s team in a Christmas football tournament this morning, I assumed today was a bank holiday.

Apparently it is not, so fair play to everyone here who has managed a day of graft before making this peculiar start time.

Coventry have slowed of late. It was Ipswich who beat them 3-0 just three weeks ago. Since then they've drawn two and won two but remain top of the tree.

Haji Wright leads the line but has gone 10 games without a goal since his last one at the start of October.

Ipswich have found a bit of form that's seen them steadily make their way to third but they have not won on the road in four and need Ivan Azon to add to the two goals he has managed up front this season.

Here come the teams, we're ready to go!

Coventry boss Frank Lampard makes two changes from the 1-0 win over Swansea three days ago.

Miguel Angel Brau starts his first league game for the club at left-back in place of Jake Bidwell who drops to the bench, with Jay Dasilva serving the last of his three-match suspension.

Haji Wright also comes into the starting line-up for Ellis Simms, who is among the subs.

Kieran McKenna opts for a re-shuffle for Ipswich from their goalless draw at Millwall, making four changes.

Leif Davis is suffering with illness and is not in the squad. He is replaced by Jacob Greaves.

Jack Taylor, Sindre Walle Egeli and Jack Clarke all come in with top goalscorer Jaden Philogene, Kasey McAteer and Jens Cajuste dropping to the bench.

    Coventry v Ipswich (18:00 GMT)

Kieran McKenna's pre-match team talk could be as simple as asking his side to do exactly what they did to Coventry at Portman Road exactly 23 days ago.

Ipswich Town's impressive 3-0 victory over the Championship leaders brought to an end a five-game winning run for the Sky Blues at the time and is one of three wins from five which has them in the hunt to go up again.

If only football was as simple as that. The Tractor Boys face an entirely different challenge this evening against a Coventry team unbeaten on home soil so far this season, while Ipswich themselves have struggled on the road - and particularly of late, failing to win their past four away matches (D2 L2).

Another thing Ipswich are trying to repeat is winning automatic promotion to the top flight - something they managed last time they were in the Championship in 2023-24.

You feel victory tonight would be one heck of a statement of intention heading into the second half of the season.
