He's great with his hands and now Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth shows his skill with the ball at his feet as he drops a shoulder to beat Ivan Azon and send it clear.

The Sky Blues then work a ball into the area and it drops nicely for Victor Torp on the edge of the box. Torp tries to place it in the corner but it's well blocked but Jacob Greaves.

    Wrexham v Preston (19:45 GMT)

Wrexham's return to the second tier after 43 years has been a bit of a slow burn for the most part.

Lots of draws, not enough wins, but they provided Hollywood-style entertainment on Boxing Day, coming from 3-1 down to beat Sheffield United 5-3.

They are only five points off the play-offs, so if they can grab a few wins, momentum could take them a long way.

But there are few tougher nuts to crack in the Championship than Preston. In this topsy-turvy season, North End have remained in the top-six continuously since late October.

Paul Heckingbottom's side have only once in 12 games and only four times all campaign and they always relish blooding the noses of the more fancied sides.

Have they got one more of those left to finish 2025 in style?

  6. Canaries taking flight as Hornets find their stingpublished at 19:04 GMT 29 December 2025

    Norwich v Watford (19:45 GMT)

Only Hull City and Middlesbrough with their 13 points have taken more than the 11 managed by both Norwich and Watford in their past six games.

For the Canaries it has given them hope of escaping relegation while the Hornets have forced themselves into the play-off picture - both have had to change managers to improve their fortunes.

Liam Manning's miserable time in charge of Norwich garnered only two wins and nine points, his successor, Philippe Clement (12) has already surpassed that sorry record and three victories from their past six games means a win or even a draw could lift them out of the relegation zone.

In Jovon Makama, Norwich also have an in-form striker with four goals from his past three games - quite timely bearing in mind the talismanic Josh Sargent has managed just one in his past 16 outings.

Javi Gracia's return to Watford in October found them four points outside the top six, now a win at Carrow Road this evening could break them into the play-off places for the first time this season.

Opportunity knocks for one of these two to kick-on into 2026...

  7. Foxes in a hole as Rams come knockingpublished at 19:02 GMT 29 December 2025

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes urging on his players from the touchlineImage source, Shuttershock

A first league meeting between these two in 11 years ended with a Leicester City win earlier this month and my how the Foxes need to make that a double.

Successive defeats have plunged Marti Cifuentes' side down to 14th place and five points off the top-six pace - that might not sound like much but try telling that to Leicester fans who surely expected something a little more than what their talented squad has produced so far.

"There are things we needed to change since I came here but it is not quick. But in football it is all about the next opportunity and there is no hiding. We have to do better," said Cifuentes after a Boxing Day loss to Watford.

Derby's head coach John Eustace has already been referencing next season in his recent interviews.

"There's been progress throughout my time here, we're coming up to a year and you can see the progress on and off the field," he said ahead of their draw with Birmingham City last week.

The Rams are five points and five places better off than they were on this date last season as they ultimately escaped relegation.

Expectations are higher this season but Eustace, ever the pragmatist, has quelled any excitement about a potential play-off challenge or any fears of another fight against the drop.

A first league win at Leicester in 23 years would keep Derby fans smiling.

  9. Have Ipswich missed their best opportunity?published at 18:57 GMT 29 December 2025

A superb first-half showing from Ipswich and if not for a fully extended Carl Rushworth, they would be ahead.

His big palm onto the underside of the bar denied Jack Taylor and Town from a deserved lead. Jacob Greaves has impressed in an unfamiliar left-back role and Coventry have allowed Jack Clarke to cut in from the left and dictate the play.

I fear that they've missed their best opportunity to take the three points though.

Coventry have turned it around in the second half repeatedly here this season.

They haven't got going and we can expect a much more forward-thinking approach from Coventry in the second half.

They managed just one shot at all in those first 45 minutes.

No damage done at the moment - it's still 0-0.

It was very uncomfortable watching, Coventry have been poor all over the pitch. There's been some real desperate defending, a fantastic save from Rushworth is the reason Coventry are going in level.

I think Frank Lampard has some organising and maybe some changes to make at half-time.

We've seen 45 minutes so far and it's been a terrific performance by Ipswich - everyone has done their job.

Apart from scoring it's been a wonderful performance.

    Goalless at half-time. Somehow.

Ipswich have been far the better side and Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth pulled off an incredible save from Jack Taylor to keep things all square.

Will Town rue not making the most of their dominance? The Sky Blues will be relieved to get down the tunnel still on level terms.

    What. A. Save.

Another excellent break by Ipswich Town. Taylor hits it well but it’s a fantastic full stretch stop from Rushworth.

He’s been the best goalkeeper in the division and that was outstanding from the Brighton loanee.

Steve Ogrizovic is just behind us in the press box and has a big smile on his face!

Ipswich must be scratching their heads at quite how this game is still 0-0.

Coventry have a lot to thank Brighton loanee goalkeeper Carl Rushworth for. I'm sure there are a few more Sky Blues fans wanting that signing to be made permanent after that save.

It's a save of the season contender for sure.

If Coventry get something out of this game we'll be talking about that save for a long time.

A huge debt of gratitude for Rushworth there for not seeing their team go 1-0 down.

    Coventry survive again.
