It's been coming, and now it has arrived, Middlesbrough lead.

Boro striker Delano Burgzorg does really well to cut the ball back into the middle and there is Riley McGree, who times his run perfectly and passes the ball home with his left foot.

Boro have been on the front foot from the outset and now have the lead they deserve.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:22 GMT 9 December 2025

    Charlton 0-0 Middlesbrough

Harvey Knibbs, returning to the Charlton side tonight, is the first player to get a yellow card at The Valley tonight.

    Watford 0-1 Sheff Wed

Are Sheffield Wednesday threatening to pad out their lead at Watford or are the hosts fighting back?

Well, it's a bit of both!

Firstly, Imran Louza works onto Othmane Maamma's through ball but his strike goes wide of the mark.

Then at the other end, Bailey Cadamarteri drives to the wrong side of the post from Jamal Lowe's delivery.

This has been a watchable - if somewhat tense - first half so far.

Both Swansea and Portsmouth have pressed each other intently out of possession, while they've threatened on the counter-attack.

There's yet to be a real clear-cut chance for either side yet, though. Neither team wants to make the first mistake.

  5. 'Great play from Norwich'published at 20:20 GMT 9 December 2025

    Sheffield United 0-0 Norwich

    Ryan Bennett
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

There has been some great play so far especially in wide areas.

They are getting in great positions and really causing Sheffield United problems.

They need to start taking their chances now. They don't want to end up regretting not taking them because they have had some good chances to go in front.

Adam Armstrong has another in the game and his 11th Championship strike of the season.

Finn Azaz produces a beautiful assist, spinning his man before slotting the pass to Armstrong who fires the ball into the net.

Tonda Eckert's side are playing some beautiful football at the moment.

An in-swinging corner from the Sheffield United right finds Danny Ings at the back post but, completely unmarked, the veteran striker somehow heads the ball over the bar from three yards out.

Incredible miss, especially for a striker of Ings' calibre!

    Southampton 2-0 West Bromwich Albion

Southampton come close to making it three, but this time the effort is off target.

Big few days for Ryan Mason at West Brom. Heavy defeats at Southampton this evening and at home to Sheffield United on Friday night and I think he'll be gone. Not started well for him tonight.

Still goalless at Deepdale at the 30-minute mark.

It's all been Coventry so far with Preston seeing less of the ball.

Can the league-leading Sky Blues bounce back from their defeat by Ipswich?

    QPR 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham's Jay Stansfield has received some treatment on the pitch following a coming together, meaning substitute Lyndon Dykes is getting warm on the touchline early on.

Dykes, a former QPR striker, receives a good reception from the home faithful but will have to wait his turn this evening as Stansfield looks good to continue.

    Swansea 0-0 Portsmouth

A couple of back-to-back chances come for Portsmouth up at the other end.

Josh Murphy sends a dangerous cross to Callum Lang - who is playing up front as striker today - but Swansea defend it well and clear the danger.

Moments later John Swift has a shot from distance but is effort is straight at Swansea keeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

But the latest chance of the game falls to the Swans as Ronald sends a header towards the goal from a central position but his effort flies wide.

  15. CLOSE!published at 20:11 GMT 9 December 2025

    Sheffield United 0-0 Norwich

    Another chance for the visitors!

The ball is fed into Josh Sargent but his left-footed effort from 18 yards doesn't quite find the corner and Michael Cooper makes a one-handed save low to his right.

  19. 'Norwich have to stick together'published at 20:07 GMT 9 December 2025

    Sheffield United 0-0 Norwich

    Ryan Bennett
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

I think you have to just try to stick together. They will have spoken about that.

There will be difficult moments but at times you just need to slow the game down and stay calm.

  20. CLOSE!published at 20:06 GMT 9 December 2025

    Sheffield United 0-0 Norwich

Norwich so, so close to the opening goal.

Jacob Wright does well, and eventually the ball falls to Josh Sargent, whose acrobatic overhead kick is destined for the back of the net but is cleared off his own goal line by, of all people, striker Danny Ings!

Soon after, the ball is set back to Kenny McLean but his effort from distance is wide, unable to recreate the heroics he performed for his national team recently.

Norwich have started this one impressively, however.
