  5. Leaders Cardiff wary of 'highly technical' Doncasterpublished at 14:58 GMT 13 December 2025

    Cardiff v Doncaster (15:00 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Cardiff City Stadium

Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy says Cardiff will need to overcome a “highly technical” Doncaster to extend their four-match winning run today.

Cardiff are four points clear at the top of League One and entertain a Doncaster side who have slipped to 19th in the table after picking up just one victory from their past 12 league games.

Rovers have been in decent form in other competitions during that time, though, with five wins in the FA Cup and EFL Trophy.

Manager Grant McCann led the Yorkshire club to promotion from League Two last season, and the former Hull City boss has impressed Barry-Murphy.

“Grant McCann's been a great success there and the recent form has probably not been what he would have wanted, but a highly technical team who play really good football,” says Barry-Murphy.

“The challenge for our players again is to find consistency and not take anything for granted. If that remains the case, we'll be fine."

Local pride's at stake in the Nene derby, with Northampton aiming for their third successive victory against Peterborough – although the Posh could climb out of the bottom four if they manage to turn the tables today.

League leaders Cardiff are looking for a fifth straight win to strengthen their position when they host Doncaster but, if the Bluebirds slip up, third-placed Lincoln could take advantage away to Blackpool.

At the other end of the table, Port Vale’s winless run now stands at eight games, but Darren Moore’s side should be buoyed by their cup form as they travel to face Luton at Kenilworth Road.

There’s also a tough assignment for Vale’s fellow strugglers Exeter, away to fifth-placed Bolton, while Plymouth – just one place off the foot of the table – are at home to Rotherham.

Meanwhile Barnsley and Leyton Orient, who meet at Oakwell, will both be looking to make up ground on the play-off pack, while Burton Albion host Wycombe.

Stockport County are unbeaten across their three home Football League games against Stevenage, scoring two or more goals in each of those matches.

Both sides have been strong so far this League One season and sit within the league's top six with the Boro sixth and the Hatters in fourth.

Stockport have failed to win either of their last two home league games (D1 L1) and could go three without victory at Edgeley Park for the first time since October 2024.

Stevenage come into this game off the back of a defeat to league leaders Cardiff City and know that a win could take them as high as third if results go their way today, Stockport could move to second if they win and Bradford and Lincoln fail to win in their respective matches.

  8. 'Could be a long afternoon for Royals'published at 14:53 GMT 13 December 2025

    Bradford v Reading (15:00 GMT)

    Naz Premji
    BBC Final Score commentator

Bradford City are firmly in the League 1 promotion mix - Graham Alexander's side are very much title contenders again, they started the season so well but suffered a bit of a drop off in October and November and the Bantams boss did say his side needed to "find our character and confidence again"

They seemed to have done that having got back to winning ways in League One with recent wins against Plymouth and Exeter.

Today's opponents Reading are slowly finding their feet under their new boss Leam Richardson and they are only a few points off the play off zone.

The last time this two teams met was a decade ago and on that occasion Bradford won 3-0 and the home fans would love a repeat of that scoreline today.

Everything points to a good time for the home side with Reading failing to win seven of their last eight games on the road in the League this season.

It could be a long afternoon for the Royals if that kind of form continues.

This will be the first league meeting between Bradford City and Reading since a 2-1 win for the Bantams at Valley Parade in 2004.

Bradford City are second in League One and four points behind leaders Cardiff City but have lost the fewest amount of times in the league this season, with only two defeats.

Leam Richardson's Reading head to Valley Parade this afternoon as they look to get back on track after losing to Peterborough last time out.

In 2025 across England’s top four tiers, only Aston Villa and Birmingham City have lost fewer home league games than Bradford City, with the Bantams winning 16 of their 21 overall matches.

Barrow begin life after Andy Whing, who was dismissed as manager on Thursday, with a long trip to the opposite corner of the country to face Gillingham.

The Bluebirds had drifted too close to the relegation zone for comfort – and other teams are looking to haul them into trouble, including Cheltenham and Harrogate, who meet today in 19th and 23rd places respectively.

Bottom side Newport host Fleetwood, with Crawley also peering anxiously over their shoulders in 21st place as they take on Oldham.

Further up the table, it’s all about closing the gap to top spot for Notts County, who start the day in second as they travel to Grimsby, and fourth-placed Bromley, who are away at Accrington.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield host Barnet, with both sides tucked in just behind the play-off positions and Tranmere take on Crewe.

League Two leaders Walsall host Shrewsbury this afternoon after both sides successfully saw off non-league opposition in the FA Cup second round last weekend.

The Saddlers are currently four points clear at the top of the table after a midweek win over Oldham but are winless in their past five matches against the Salopians.

Shrewsbury have struggled on the road this season, however, only picking up five points on the road - the lowest tally in the division.

They have not won at the Bescot Stadium since December 1993 - can Michael Appleton's men pull off a surprise victory today?

Cambridge United take the trip to Stadium MK this afternoon in a clash between two of the top seven in League Two.

United have lost all three of their Football League visits to Milton Keynes by an aggregate scoreline of 11-1.

MK Dons have been strong at home of late too, winning each of their past four, as they aim to make it five in a row for the first time since December 2018.

Neil Harris' side did, however, claim an impressive 3-0 win at Barrow in their last league away day and are seeking back-to-back wins on the road for just the second time since 2022.

Salford's dramatic win over Colchester has hauled them into the top-five ahead of the afternoon programme and means the Essex side might be out of reach of the top-seven by teatime.

Swindon are back within a point of Walsall, who could restore their lead later on, after a thumping win at Bristol Rovers, who could drop into the EFL basement should Harrogate pick up a point this afternoon.

There are some good players out there and you can see the potential of what Wigan can do, especially in that second half performance I thought they were absolutely fantastic.

It is a shame that Wigan couldn't go out there and get all three points in that second half, and maybe just give a little bit more of a push.

It seemed like in the last 10-15 minutes Ryan Lowe said lets just try and see the game out and settle for a point.
